billcoe Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Looks like this may be true, fall on Dike Wall, Eastern Sierra. Don't know what route. Several there. http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.html?topic_id=895790&tn=0&mr=0 Quote
LostCamKenny Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 He was one of the best that ever climbed - great guy, too... met and talked with him at the OR show this past January in SLC. Prayers go out to his family. Quote
EWolfe Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 Link 1 Link 2 RIP John - you died doing what you loved. Quote
pope Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Largo recently said, "Anybody can fall anywhere, anytime." I'm tippin' one back for a guy I never met. He had more than a small influence on how I interpreted the rules of the game. Heart and soul, Bachar cared about preserving the adventure offered by rock climbing and objected appropriately to those who would change the medium to offer anything less. Quote
sweatinoutliquor Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 This is a huge loss. John was an inspiration. Your right, total suckage. Quote
shaoleung Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 One of the last of the yosemite icons. RIP John. Quote
glassgowkiss Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Any know details? (broken hold or just a regular fall?) Quote
Kletterhund Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 That it sobering news ... He was an amazing man. Quote
sobo Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Truly sad news. RIP. I never met him, but in my early days of this game 25+ years ago, he was an inspiration and role model for me. The worldwide climbing community mourns the loss of one of its truly Great Ones. Quote
