billcoe Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Decided to just blow it off today. I can't say if it's the little aches and pains, or the drain and let down of not going out and doing new routes at a new area, but I can't get motivated to head out on what will be one of the best weather days today. My passion has left the building. [video:youtube] The thrill is gone. This ever happen to you or someone you know, and what did you or they do about it? Quote
Lodestone Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Bill I'll be of of work at 11am sharp. Let's get out. Jimmies, Farside, Beacon, Coethedral.....you pick. I even have my gear in the truck, ready to go. Chad Quote
pink Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 ever think about taking a significant amount of time off, maybe set your soul free a little Quote
Alex Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 It's supposed to be fun. When it ceases to be fun, just go do something else you enjoy doing. It can be video games. Kiteboarding. Gardening. Life is too short to agonize about changes in motivation for an activity, just go with the flow. Quote
genepires Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 anything BUT video games. They rot the brain and there will be no future for you to return to. Quote
mountainsloth Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 if you love something, let it go. if it comes back, it was meant to be Quote
pcg Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 (edited) That's why we have seasons. Time to take some time off before the next season which brings new activities. We all need down time now and then and we all need variety. I embrace the lack of passion and relax for awhile, but I force myself to do some sort of low-key exercise daily, like long walks with the dog. Edited September 26, 2010 by pcg Quote
ivan Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 nonsense - excellent call you didn't come bill! otherwise you'd been behind me on jensen's, talking buckets of shit about a performance fully worth the commentary yer totem cams served well - their high-speed aid-rigability luckily needed no testing Quote
olyclimber Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Time passes and you must move on, Half the distance takes you twice as long So you keep on singing for the sake of the song bill if you quit climbing it would be hard to justify buying anymore gear. Quote
mattp Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Bill: I hear you. I was going to get up at 5:00 this morning and head out for a day at one of my favorite crags. But you know what? I stayed home and had a great day. I'll be out there next week and I bet you will too. Matt Quote

Rad Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 (edited) Action and reflection are both important. Good luck finding your passion again. Edited September 27, 2010 by Rad Quote
kukuzka1 Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 If the mind dosent want it the body will not follow. Take up something els your passionate about, and maybe the desire will return? Quote
LUCKY Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 You need a MOTOVATIOR in the crew...He wants me to start a 6 pitch climb with him...The young'n's I have been hang'n with have way toooo much energy but it keeps me and the wife motovated. reach up pull down bill Quote
denalidave Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 HEY, LET'S GO BOWLING!!! "Let's Roll!" Quote
denalidave Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Bill, since you are now an official washed-up has been, you may as well make room in your basement for all the bowling equipment you will soon be hoarding. I'd be happy to assist you (for a small fee/barter) by cleaning out the basement and getting rid of all that useless climbing junk, especially those new totem cams that are now worthless paperweights... g orton Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Thanks, Bill. That brought back memories or the first time I saw BB King at the Mira Mar in Montecito, just after I got out of the hosptital from my first sking accident in early '70s. Back in the days when short skis on the hill, leashes on surf boards, and cams in cracks (early '80s) were considered cheating. The room he played in only had about 10 small cocktail tables. He played to each table, it was an incredible show. If you ever get down this way that offer for the Ripple still stands. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I've been out of the game lately too. Been trying to get back in. Was suppose to go out and do some backpacking this weekend, but after having my catalytic converter stolen off my vehicle, just didn't feel like. Hey gene, video games aren't all bad. Just don't start playing shit like World of Warcraft were you end up getting involved in a whole community and crap. Quote
pink Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 what's up with shit getting stolen in the NW??? Quote
counterfeitfake Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Happens to me every year, generally in September. I catch up with friends who don't climb, drink, tune skis and sharpen ice tools, and wait for the snow to start falling. Personally I can't imagine only being passionate about one sport. Quote
Stefan Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I get not being motivated too! My trick is to get involved with more people. Climbing seems to be more fun for me when I am with people....and a new route to me is something that I have not done...doesn't always have to be a FA. Quote
JosephH Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Could have been worse, you could have been motivated to get out for a bunch of pitches on friday and then come back out Saturday for another round starting with belaying someone up RR. Then you proceed to keel over and pass out on top of your belay device once they get to the anchor effectively stranding them up there until some kind Ledge partyers come to their aid and free them from your belay device. Quote
JoshK Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Who the fuck steals a catalytic converter??? That's some serious ghetto-theft. Quote
