Whatcomboy Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 What happened to Good Food? All closed down and looking sad. I know the burgers were gut bombs but it was a good place to go all dirty, stinky after climbing. Maybe the old lady retired. Quote
ivan Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 never did like that joint - perhaps the shocking lack of beer? Quote
AlpineK Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 This is the height of the travel season, so you would think Good Food would be open for sure. Â Maybe they couldn't compete with the newish BBQ shack by Texaco and the bunny place. Quote
W Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Maybe they couldn't compete with the newish BBQ shack by Texaco and the bunny place. Â At least one person I know got gnarly food poisoning from eating there, so there's also that... Quote
Whatcomboy Posted July 27, 2014 Author Posted July 27, 2014 The BBQ caboose is pretty good, plus cold beer. Quote
dberdinka Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 That place was a disgusting health hazard. Based on the amount of trash piled up around the building and the filth visible in the kitchen I couldn't believe the state hadn't shut it down. Maybe they finally did. Â Fwiw there is an really excellent burger joint in Concrete right where the speed trap starts. Great quick food. Quote
chris Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 The BBQ caboose is pretty good, plus cold beer. Que Car BBQ +1 Â What about the burger joint next to the gas station in Darrington? Has anyone checked it out? Quote
wayne Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 Good Food: used to be good. Until the husband/ trained chef left in 05. I remember sitting in there with Josh after the NPick traverse, the wife was taking the news of his departure well, leaving it "all in the lords hands" > The 10 spawn were only concerned with crowding around the 1 computer in the side seating. It went down hill after that. the kids tried but must have lost interest, and moved away. Burger Barn is fine the Marblemount diner is about the best right now. Quote
curtveld Posted July 27, 2014 Posted July 27, 2014 What about the burger joint next to the gas station in Darrington? Has anyone checked it out? Burger Barn = ...so long as you're into good ole fashiond burgers/n/fries and such  You can sit at the picnic table with your grub and sip a brew from the gas station! Quote

Indeed, "The Good Lord" apparently saw fit to do what the state of Washington did not, which was shut down Good Food.  While TLC may glorify over-populating uber-christian nutbags (http://www.duggarfamily.com/), the reality of Marblemount displayed what is likely a more typical existance of this sort. 8D  On the upside, it's always possible the great gods of universal irony will see fit to placing a brewery with awesome food in its place? One can always hope...  R.I.P. Good Food. :: Quote
Phil K Posted July 28, 2014 Posted July 28, 2014 Who here remembers Mountain Song that used to be where the Buffalo Run is now? I still miss the salad bar and hippie vibes. Quote
John_Scurlock Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Who here remembers Mountain Song that used to be where the Buffalo Run is now? I still miss the salad bar and hippie vibes. Â ah yes... who could possibly forget the "each entree delivered to the table on one hour intervals" vibe.... but on the other hand, lots of extra time for beer.... Quote
Phil K Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Maybe that's why I usually ended up going for the salad bar. Quote
stamati Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 I always hit up Cascade Burgers in Concrete after a good climb. Their food and malts are the bomb diggity. Also their curly fries come in fryer basket size. Insane. Quote
dberdinka Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Just experienced this yesterday. A worthy $4.25. They cut the potatoes to order and use real peanut butter in their shakes. Â Quote
JasonG Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Now that is what I need after a long weekend. Thanks for the tip. Quote
genepires Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 is that the cascade burger place? Quote
curtveld Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 They cut the potatoes to order... Yikes, looks like they cut up a 10 lb sack for that order!! And their cones are generously sized as well. Quote
AlpineK Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Hmmm. It seems like they used to be fine. At least I've eaten there and never experiences food poisoning. Then again the last time I ate there was more than 15 years ago. Quote

One can always hope... Â You can always hit up Birdsview Brewing, just west of Concrete. The wife and I try to hit it up on our way out of the North Cascades. Their food is ok, but they do have some good microbrew. Edited September 24, 2014 by Apdavids Quote

tvashtarkatena Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Mongo's in Marblemount is aight. Burgers, teriyaki, and a couple of other things. Â Mongo like burger. Quote
RonLester Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I have read many a TR posted by strong, competent climbers who spoke of making it down to the mythical 'Good Food' before they closed for the day... Â I never made it down in time. Quote
DPS Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 The sign advertising "Good Food" was exactly half right. Quote
