telemarker Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 (edited) If you go there, expect to do lots and lots of repelling. Repel after repel after repel. Edited February 6, 2016 by telemarker Quote
JosephH Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Cool, just what Oregon needed - more bad rock. Great for canyoneering types, though. Quote
telemarker Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 I wonder if in spring run off it can be kayaked? Quote
rl23455 Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 So I found out from an old friend that "Valhalla" has been known for some time. Maybe they didn't explore the whole thing, but he has pictures of his experience, he writes: "The Jonathan Korn search, 7/31/1992. We spent the night down there in an unplanned bivouac. I got all on film." Quote
Alex Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I watched it. It was neat, but somehow I kind of figured that if you followed just about any drainage in the PNW you're going to find a lot of that kind of terrain. Â I think it was nice for OPB to do a cool spot on it, good viewing but a little too much drama for something that looks kind of mellow if you've ever done any canyoneering. Quote

Water Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 nope no way. in the first picture there are 5 people and the second only 1, it must be a different spot. Quote
thatcher Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I can't believe I just spent an hour reading every single post in this thread. I'm so bored. 1 Quote
JasonG Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 The name just gets more and more fitting. Quote
obwan Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Oly, copy that! It's happens to all of us - getting that feeling that we are first to find a neat place, and find out not. Quote
telemarker Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 Yeah. I'm siding with Water on this one. Definitely more people in that first pic. Quote
olyclimber Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 If you magnify the pixels in the second pic, you'll see the other 4 in the reflection in the water. Quote
KirkW Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 OPB hit the jackpot on this one. Hyped it up for weeks then dropped it just before a pledge drive. Smart. Â The show seemed more like bad reality television than journalism to me but cool to know this spot is in my back yard. Â I wonder how long until Dan Helmstadter skis it? Quote

In March, David Lama and Red Bull will film a naked zip line descent. In April, Ivan will aid to the top, build a bonfire in her mouth, get busted, and the defiling will be complete. But somehow this thread lives on! Quote
ivan Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 In April, Ivan will aid to the top, build a bonfire in her mouth, get busted, and the defiling will be complete. the charges'll never stick - i rarely enter oregon w/o my lawyer close at hand and he can be a very, very crude man Quote
wayne Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 I watched the video and found it very compelling. Thanks for seeing it through and providing the story. I'll bet there are a few of those in north cascades. I saw an impenetrable valley near mt logan that had a whole valley side fracture and slide many meters in a v shape. Pretty sure nobodies seen that valley either. Quote
G-spotter Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 WHAT IS THE MAN/DOG SPEED RECORD FKT FOR THIS DESCENT PLEASE ADVISE Quote

Choada_Boy Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 If only the first descentionists had had the foresight to take the time and leave behind a wretched Power Dump, the climbing world would not be embroiled in this current controversy. Quote
Alisse Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Did Hyperbole Canyon ever see a CC expedition led by @ivan with a flag-planting, slideshow with beers, $20 reward, etc?!?! Quote
