  1. They have been my source for "hardman" pads for a long time. It is an integral part of my kit, not because I'm hard, but because they really work to give you comfort around camp without danger of deflating anything. And they're a great backup pad and hardly weigh anything. But, it doesn't look like they carry them anymore anyways? Perhaps this is similar enough? https://foammart.com/product/l200-14-colors/
  2. wow. For a second, I thought you were talking about your bowels.
  3. I love everything about this! More TRs please @Kameron, you have the knack!
  4. So great meeting and getting out with you @kmfoerster! You were an integral part of the adventure and anyone would be well served to have you along on a trip! I will try and add a few more of my favorites in the coming weeks, but that was a super memorable outing! I think part of the issue I had with the snaffles, aside from being snaffle bait, was that I didn't have a bivy sack to seal them out. That and I didn't figure out why they were attacking my head until way too late in the evening. They really do like shiny things! I'm sure a headlamp would be a prized midden addition, and a sure fire hit with the snaffle ladies! I so hate snaffles. A respectful hate, but hate nonetheless.
  5. Good point! Also, the Downy Creek trail has been burned over and is still smoking. Will be spicy/filthy for some time, likely years. Those burns can be spooky, esp. in wind.
  6. I am a dinosaur and wear boots pretty much always, up and down. Mostly because I'm packing an extra 5-7 lbs of camera gear and thrashing blue collar routes. Unless I am in town, then I wear approach shoes to look cool.
  7. You're right that this would be an obvious next step. May slow them down enough to have an effective response to an alarm trigger?
  8. Thanks for the reminder to always stay on the path!
  9. We need it on USFS controlled ground if we are ever to have enough bunks!
  10. Like? Land mines? Any fencing will be no issue for this person. The had an alarm system with cameras, which didn't seem to help. This person is quite skilled at creating mayhem, and I don't doubt that they will strike again, maybe in a way that they aren't expecting (depending on the counter measures). Like a , they have my reluctant respect.
  11. So awesome. I love the love of D-town. It is just about prime slab dancing season out there!
  12. Oh man, that's too bad. It was such a lovely area.
  13. Chances are slim to none. Despite many years of trying to find evidence (hair snares, photo traps, etc.), there have been ZERO documented grizzlies in the park. I work with a bunch of wildlife bios and have followed this closely over the years. Black bears are commonly cinnamon, which is why color isn't what you go on. The shape of the head is key, as are long claws, hump on back, etc. Here's a good summary: But, more importantly, that is a HELL OF A LOT OF CLIMBING IN A FEW DAYS! Yowza! Well done!
  14. Thanks for the details! Busy is the new normal on Luna, it seems.
  15. Watched the helo Saturday night and was wondering what was going on since it seemed to take a couple hours to do the extraction. Glad that it sounded non-life threatening. Nice work on the summit, Luna is a haul!
  16. Wow. In the words of GWB - "Catastrophic Success!"
  17. Never heard of anyone doing it that late, but here are some thoughts.... It will vary a lot year to year, based on how much fresh snow is in the hills. Typically with the short days, broken glaciers, and extensive talus, people shift to more trailed destinations during that week. But, no bugs in Bachelor creek and no crowds! Chances are the weather won't be bomber though....
  18. You know, I never have climbed there. Sounds like I need to change that!
  19. Wow, you're serious @bellows! Finishing this year then?
  20. Wow, that would have been an inconceivable # of ascents in one year, not even 5 years ago. Glad you escaped the Potterfield curse and had a good climb!
  21. So great! I need to go back to this one....
  22. What a heartbreak! All that way to be engulfed in the mists on summit day. It is worth a return when the pain subsides....
