Where in relation to the Hidden Lake Peaks or Middle Fork Cascade River Road turn-offs is this log? Before or after?

Much bigger? Okay, I just had to check on this because in my mind I just didn't think this was right. In my Webster's dictionary in the Geography section it says: USA.........3,615,123 sq. miles (9,399,320 sq. km in Dru numbers) Canada...3,851,809 sq. miles (10,014,703 sq. km in Dru numbers) Result: Canada is only 6.5% larger than USA. I wouldn't say that's "much bigger." Alaska making itself useful for once.

On my second Kyes failure, a group of four of us tried it via the Northeast Ridge in mid-September. Had a slow party member, but that wasn't the real problem. We had forgotten to bring crampons and the upper part of the Pride Glacier looked like it would have to be traversed a bit on steep snow. So we turned around at the last ridge saddle before going up the final steep bit to the class 5 corner. I'd go back there and try it again. We were going to do it in a day (coming down the South Ridge). Probably better as a two-day unless you get an early start or have more daylight to work with than September offers. All was not lost though, for myself and another went over to Goblin Mountain on the way out. Its got an interesting bouldering problem for the summit rock. I like the fact that I can say I've climbed Goblin Mountain since it's pretty rarely visited.

I hate failing on a climb. But when I do, I've always tried to go back up sooner than later to claim it. Mt. Index was my nemesis (6 failed attempts), but I succeeded finally last May. I have failed at Whitehorse once, though an earlier time we went to the Whitehorse trailhead but it was raining so hard we bagged it before getting out of the car. My personal rule is it's not a failure if you never leave the parking lot. The only peak I still haven't completed that I have failed at twice or more is Kyes Peak (two failures).

Sverdina and I were going to try the Triple Couloirs this weekend, but three things are cancelling the idea out: 1. Don't want to walk that extra 3 miles--especially if it's just going to be 2 of us breaking trail to and around the lake and up to the base of the climb 2. Avalanche danger not so good for this weekend 3. Weather forecast not certain to be worthy this weekend Incidentally, I called the ranger station in 11worth today. Lady said the road up Mountaineers Creek will be closed at Bridge Creek for the new bridge construction at midnight on July 14. Might mean that those who wish to climb something in the Colchuck Lake area, etc. should plan for a trip in there before this date. Construction is slated to go on for the whole summer. She said they hoped to have it all done this summer, but it's the government we're talking about, so who knows.

We've got the West Nile Virus coming at us from the east and SARS from the west. In the middle is Washington State, the breeding ground for much misery to come perhaps? This summer in the mountains I'm going to be looking at every mosquito trying to a get drink out of me a little differently. No, instead of just annoying me, the damn bug is gonna be trying to kill me!! There's your WMD right there. Mosquitos trained by terrorists?

Wouldn't it be nice to know when they thought they'd FIRST open the road? That way, I can know when to line up for the ensuing stampede.

For some topics I'm a klenklican, for others I'm a klenklocrat. I go with the idea that makes the most sense for me. I always prefer to aim toward common sense...and a good . The people of this world can't agree on everything. Lately, I've been standing on the conservative side of the fence, but I've been leaning over the fence and laughing at what I see happening on the liberal side. You had better try calling the Cle Elum R.S. The people on this site don't know jack...or jill...or earl...or any navajo's. (The peak you're thinking of is actually spelled Navaho). The southern access to it from Stafford Creek Road must be over 3,200 ft (the elevation of the Teanaway River-Stafford Creek confluence), so whether or not snow is making the road inaccessible all the way to Stafford Creek as it turns north toward Navaho would be something the R.S. would know for sure. If you call them (say tomorrow), how 'bout posting what they told you here? It would be nice to know how far the Teanaway River Road is open. Of course you could try to get to Navaho from the east from Blewett Pass Highway. In which case you know you'll be able to get to about 5 miles of it as the crow flies. Long way from that side (or Ingalls Creek approach).

Looking through the USER LIST, I notice Jesus has signed up to this site but He aint posted anything yet. What's He waiting for? CC.com Armageddon? Ha, I like that smiley graemlin, TLG. I am someone who finds golf more enjoyable than skiing now. I use to ski more but got burned out on it (spending $30 per 4 hours of hardcore skiing is about equal to the rate of $$$ squandering when golfing). I've been golfing since I was 10. Still hoping for that hole-in-one, so that alone is reason to go. Got to go golfing now in the spring, cuz I'm usually too busy climbing in the brunt of summer. What makes you think I'm a Repubelican, Allison? I like to think of myself as a Klenklican.

Oh my GOD, I don't believe what I'm seeing!!!! When I lived in England in the early 80's as a military brat, that guy was the 9-O'Clock News weatherman. Looks a little older than I remember him. He was damn funny and use to make my family laugh with his jocular attitude and England's (once?) sorry-ass weathercasts. I mean, look at that silly mapboard!! Believe it or not, that was as good as it gets back then. I can't wait until my dad (who's a weatherman himself) sees this picture when I forward it to him. Too nostalgic, too funny.

The moment WSDOT opens the road over Washington Pass there will be a mad rush of CC.com gapers and sprayers to the area in hopes of making the first 2003 ascents. It will be similar to what happened on Chair Peak this winter. JoshK: I got dibs on the Southwest Couloir of SEWS. My gear has already been placed at the start of the climb (I cached an old oval biner and a inedible Power Bar there last autumn).

Sverdina and I climbed The Castle starting from Narada Falls about 7 weeks ago. At 9 in the morning, there were four cars in the parking lot. By the time we got back at around 4:30PM, there must have been 40 there at least. It was a zoo! Nice weather days bring 'em out of the wood, those touronites. We saw probably 50 snowshoers/snowboarders/skiers on Tatoosh Ridge that day, but we were the only ones climbing The Castle.

A friend of mine invited me over to his place to watch the Opening Night Mariners game. In hindsight I should have gone to pub club instead because the game was lame. But the grilled steaks we had for food were not lame.
