A sounds like a great idea right now--especially after finding I'm going to get a big tax refund when I thought I would have to pay this year. I think I've got a bitter stout in the fridge.

Michigan Climber Intrigued by Pub Club et. al.
klenke replied to Braumeister's topic in Climber's Board
Yep, those are certainly the required qualifications, though being a Guinness drinker is only extra gravy for being accepted. We never turn away new faces at Pub Club--especially if they handle the pitcher purchasing. -
Seems like if you fell--especially a considerable distance--when climbing without the sewn part of the quickdraw in the system (i.e., one 'biner only as the guide has done here) that there would be more of a chance of one or more of the instantly-loaded 'biners snapping right at the bolt/'biner interface. The sewn part would act as a means to absorb some of that energy, albeit a little bit. Plus, the torque is increased in this method, which would further increase the likelihood of a brittle failure. Bolts are made of steel. (Most) carabiners are made of aluminum. Carabiners will break first. It seems using a quickdraw helps most to create a flexibility in a line to go here and go there without having to worry about getting on the wrong side of a bolt or having the 'biner rotate around the bolt hole. Heck, I don't know. If he had fallen, maybe the proof of it being a bad idea would have been in the pudding...or in the crater at the base of the climb. "The proof is in the pudding"? What kind of stupid saying is that anyway?

Metric system: English system: So take your pick.

The answer to your question, Wayne, is relative to what constitutes a relevant peak (prominence being the most distinguishing factor). There are several lists (Bulger, et al.) but these are usually modified by those making frequent use of them. Can you be more specific as to what you want? As for Brisbine's site (the link presented herein), I had noticed how it does not really present a top-down list up front. You kind of have to search around for the information. I have found the annotated index to be most useful for acquiring information relative to a given peak. Plus you can sort by different table categories in the index. What Brisbine has failed to mention (or maybe I did not read enough fine print) is that there are errors in USGS maps themselves (most notably in regard to contour lines) and they need to be taken into account as much as the accuracy of triangulations.

Here's a link for the relevant National Forest office: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/ Phone numbers are on the page, but specifically for the Glacier office: Operating Hours: Daily from Memorial Day to mid-November Weekends remainder of year. 8 am - 4:30 pm PST Phone Number: (360) 599-2714 Based on the info above, if you want to call the Glacier office you must do so on the weekends only at this time of year. Otherwise, call the Sedro Wooley office at (360) 856-5700. They'll know just as much as the Glacier office probably.

Notice the way he's tipping up the pistol. He wouldn't be able to hold it up if it were level. Notice also the redness of the skin below the ears...careful with that axe, Eugene!

Ahh, an illustration of Von Spanker in Yosemite this coming week perhaps?

I'm thinking of going to this pub club, but would be even more inclined to make the trip if someone wanted to carpool. I can drive if need be. Any takers? No curfew for me either, so we can leave/stay as allowances may permit.

It is NOT granite. It is sandstone.

You can also probably walk to every climbing spot from the hotel, the country is do darn small.

I was speaking of wads of $$$ green. The "green" was very quick into the pocket, so don't know what it was, but, based on the thickness of the $$$ wad, it probably wasn't weed. Happened long ago when I was a high schooler. We used to purposely drive down K-Street just for kicks on our way downtown.
-
Yeah, hilltop is great! K-street is the only place I ever witnessed a big drug deal in plain sight...at the car idling behind me at a stoplight. The stoplight's green wasn't the only green I saw at that moment.

Maybe the counter isn't capable of more than 4 digits. You know, like when we all used to turn over those Atari games when we were kids (Asteroids, Pinball, etc.).

Well, someone should test this hypothesis this weekend by using his/her GPS at a known lat./long. location (in the city using a topo or something). Will need to do more than one measurement to verify. Six readings in six different locations ought to be sufficient. Maybe at pubs during a pub crawl.

Allison, I think you better start holding up the first two fingers when posing for PC photographs. Peace out.

Nice TR Tom. Doesn't make me want to go that way at all. Oh, and I hate to be a nitpicker but... A. The picture you say is of Ruby Mountain is actually Mt. Logan. To the right of Logan is Stormking Mountain. Ruby has no glaciers and is pretty non-rugged compared to Logan B. The picture of you on Lucky Pass is reversed. From your vantage point, Mt. Buckner needs to be left of Forbidden Peak C. The picture of Klawatti Lake and Cascade Pass area is also reversed. Klawatti Lake is east of Klawatti Peak (the glaciated peak upslope from the lake). The peak on the left is Forbidden and the peak in the middle is Johannesberg D. The Primus Peak and Tricouni Peak shot is also reversed. Tricouni is East of Primus. Since that is Mt. Baker in the photo, the picture is reversed Cheers -- Paul

Tip for surfing slow websites: 1. Right click mouse button while hovering over link 2. Select "Open in New Window" (second from top for me) 3. While slow site loads in new window, continue surfing in old window Note that the website in question for this thread already opens in a new window (at least for me). Simply surf in another window until it loads up. And actually, for me it loaded up in less than 10 seconds on a AT&T Broadband connection.

What's your solution to this Iraq problem, sexual chocolate? Or what's your take on the France stance regarding Iraq? Just curious. Note that it is very easy to remonstrate one person's general and unsubstantiated point of view with an equally general and unsubstantiated but opposite point of view. That's essentially what politicians do every day. It's called politicking.

This weekend will see a historical event on Cascadeclimbers: Dru's 10,000th post! Tickets for this event are being sold at www.Drusbigmoment.com. Please, no scalping of tickets in the Spray forum.

Wang deserves a Darwin Award post mortem post haste, me thinks.

This coming from a guy who perpetually refers to himself in the third person. And thus, shouldn't Sheesh be put in quotes? As in "'Sheesh,' DFA says." I myself will be playing some Frisbee Golf. Not too much else planned.

I bet every one of the competitors in the Parkour Hall of Fame is....DEAD!

Nicely put, JayB. Re: Serbia, that movie from 2001 (Best Foreign Film Oscar last year) called No Man's Land did a good job regarding the absurdity of that situation and the foreign (media) take on it.

Make sure it's not the K-mart variety, Tom. Those aren't worth the panty label printing ink.
