"Don't hold your breath, bro. They strike me as loving the male attention with the anonymity that the bbs provides; they won't actually show. If they do, it'll be attention-whore city - no thanks." Dude, lighten up. Of course they're not going to show if you call them names such as you did. If they show, they show. If they don't, their loss perhaps.

Hey, where's sledding and inner-tubing on the chart? I want sledding! I want inner-tubing!

Hey, if K5N or NewsTips show up, they can give us the low down on the buildering problems there at the King 5 building. Most importantly, we need to know what the security guard schedule is for outside rounds. It would also be nice to know which window caves to avoid so as to not be seen by the evening shift.
-
You going to let her belay you?
-
"not a problem. though I doubt either of us would be or look out of place in ANY pub" Well, K5N, perhaps you could invite some of us unruly climbers to one of your Media Pub Clubs. You know, the ones where you and your compatriots from KOMO and KIRO come together weekly to play shuffleboard. You know, the ones where you three giganticus stations subjugate poor old KCTS, brow beat KSTW, and sneer at KCPQ. Ours can't be the only pub club in existence on the planet. Hey look, K5N is learning quickly. She already on to Traskie.
-
Okay, K5N, but no cameras, no reporters, and no notepads please. At pub club, we talk climbing shop...but not to strangers. And if you lurk, we'll know it. Those beady white eyes looking on from shadowy nooks cannot escape our notice...unless the beer bong is being passed around.
-
Yes, Erik, I believe you are correct. They is hittin' on us climbin' fools. However, I would like to dispell a rumor: we climbers do not wear our climbing harnesses to pub club. That won't happen until they make a harness that holds beer glasses or bottles. K5N: If you want to hit on some climbers in person, you can do this at Pub Club tomorrow night (see thread regarding this on bulletin board). Consider this a pub club invite.

I think the problem with this poster named King5news is that it is just one person in the company who does not speak for the whole of the company. It would be nice if this poster had a name. You're not Jeff Renner are you? And heaven forbid if you're the curly redhead.

Next time I go to climb Mt. Rainier, I'm going to call the media and search and rescue before I even leave my house. I'm going to tell them "I'm going to go lose myself." No doubt they'll be there at the trailhead before I am. I will arrive with much fanfare--a live television interview with CNN--before I even get onto the trail. If they bribe me, I may let them rescue me before I even lose sight of the parking lot.

Who Godzilla? I could take him.

Yes, I was referring only to the bouldering potential--which would not be V12 if it were small car size unless it was standing up on end. I'm well aware that a rock the size of a football can kill you.
-
A 5-ton boulder probably aint that big. What maybe about the size of a small car?

Catbirdseat said, "Have you ever noticed how trails that have switchbacks have false trails continuing out straight from the end of each switchback? They are caused by dogs off-leash who don't know enough to make the turn. I sure wish everyone would just keep their dogs on leash." This sounds plausible but I have never ever seen a dog continue on straight at a switchback. Seems like dogs know enough to make the turn. At least the one's I've seen. I always figured those trail extensions were created by people taking off to a place to urinate or have a bowel movement. After all, on a trail that is switchbacking, it is the optimal place to go off trail to do your business and get yourself far enough away from the trail so as to not be seen. Then again, maybe it's these things making the extensions:

Hey, that's pretty cool Wayne. A lot of it makes sense, but the Peak Bagging box should not be relegated to snow climbing. Alpine climbing also sees a lot of peak bagging mentality. I should know, I'm a peak bagger. Then there's wall bagging and serac bagging (while the serac lasts) and climber's wall route bagging and so on...

We must demolish Mt. Rainier. That decrepit mountain has too many safety violations to be acceptable for climbing on. We need to build a bigger and better and safer mountain in its place. Who's with me? Paul Allen could pay for half.

Ok, Law Goddess, show us the geeky yearbook photo(s).

I have no clue there.

Message to Corporal Von Spanker: Please do not ever post a picture of Jim Forman on this website again. Thank you and good day. ---Klenke

It's one of your classic chicken or the egg situations. Which came first, the media overblowing something based on a perceived interest or the perceived interest being instigated by the media overblowing a few initial incidences? In the end--after sufficient time has passed--just which came first becomes blurred into the caliginous mist of history. Since people watch the media, they are influenced by what the media reports (the media generalizes isolated incidences into mainstream normalcy). When the media then notices people changing, they report this assuming they are just observers where in fact they have begun those ways of thinking by their very reporting on it. A prime example of this would be these ubquitous worldwide peace marches. Millions showing up in Rome, thousands in Seattle. The media reports this as if to say that is the way the majority of humanity thinks about the war situation. I contend that this is nowhere near the majority. The majority are not protesting. Those that protest, do so because they want to. Those that don't protest also don't because they don't want to (unless other constraints constrain them). Yet, the media only reports on the protesters because the non-protesters are people not joining forces into a common cause (i.e., they are all in their individual homes). Non-protesters, therefore, do not make for a worthy news story. People see what the media is reporting on and erroneously assume that what they are seeing is a general consensus when in fact it may be far from it. In conclusion: never trust what you see in the media.

The news said Chris McGinnis and one other person from Los Angeles area. Second name was not given.

What you're saying, MattP, is exactly what I'm afraid of. I still remember that infamous day when Jim Forman first broke on the Northwest scene. Ack! Too much sensation, too much sensation. He's the absolute worst of the bunch. It seems Mimi Jung was sent to MNRP for this coverage for King5. She is much better. Catbird: this is not a nazi state. People go out all the time in iffy weather. They go out because they can and they want to. Maybe the sense of adventure in inclement weather is what spurred them on. I'll never make a decision to go or not go climbing based on what the media or observers might think of what I'm doing. That's America.
-
"and don't let jim forman do any of the reporting!" Amen to that!

Wayne, if you're talking about the attachments thingamajig, I have done this a number of times using jpeg images. I don't know if bitmaps (.bmp) will work or not, but what I have found out is that the 100Kb limit for an attachment might mean 98Kb is what your file size must be (or less than 98Kb) in order to be uploaded to the website. Seems what your computer says a file size is may not be what CC.com thinks it is. I'll crop down an image so that it is under 100Kb, say 99Kb, and CC.com still won't take it. If I crop this down to 98Kb, then CC.com will take it. That's about all I know.
