  1. C'mon. Step it up perverts, this thread is going nowhere fast!

    Lummox sighting?

"the Second Ascent of Crest Jewel Direct" Hell, I climbed straight up from there accidentally 2 years ago, did I get the first ascent?
  3. Food for thought: Many of the long-term climate models predict that western North America will go dry as a result of global warming. So if we're to take the 2005 Mt. Baker and Sierra "data" literally (as we already have been in this thread), this year's winter would be counter to the long term climate effects expected. When I was active in the field (I no longer am), much of the data came from stable isotopes and bedrock borehole temperature measurements. As well as inferences based on rising glacial equilibrium lines worldwide and ice-sheet loss at the poles. All of these data measurement techniques (particularly the stable isotopes and borehole data) are time-integrated to filter out the noise inherent in a messy system like the weather. The current weather can be used to make any argument you like depending on where you live and how long you've lived there. In fact some places in the world are experiencing cooling trends according the data gathering techniques I listed above. Suggesting that a warm winter in the Cascades (which is related to El Nino, a natural oceanic current that is probably increasing in severity), in my mind, is similar to the philosophical argument that Tsunamis, floods and landslides mean the END IS NEAR. We have better arguments. Cracked, the "WHY" is probably a little better understood than you think.

    Napoleon Dynamite

It wasn't nearly as good as slacker.
  5. I just stayed in Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C. this weekend. It's the "gay" neighborhood. That one little area of that big city has more style, class, friendliness and taste than anything I've seen of Spokomton.
  6. I hate when people say things like this. A warm winter (or week) in the cascades is NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO REAL EVIDENCE OF GLOBAL WARMING. The data that suggest global warming are long-term, and indirect, measures of climate. Just poke your head a little further in the sand (or maybe some other dark place). There is NO evidence of global warming aside from increased global temps. The current El Nino is a result of warming temps in the Pacific (like other El Nino events). Yep, just another isolated unrelated insignificant weather event. The evidence you are presenting is anecdotal. It is not climate change data. It's going to be 4 below where I am tonight, does that mean you're wrong? I am not suggesting that global warming is not occuring (I've worked in laboratories that study this topic). However, convincing our policy makers that we need to take the issue of global warming more seriously is going to require sound, well-reasoned arguments, not skiers bitching about rain. I suggest you read up some on the topic if you feel so strongly about it.
  7. This had been the case in the past with other avalanche accidents in Dutch's Draw and similar drainages on the same ridgeline. All are wind-loaded, all are steep and all are on the crest of the range. Dutch's Draw has been an accident waiting to happen ever since the Canyon's opened that lift (which accesses shitty inbounds terrain btw) and the resort has known it all along. I don't think that resorts should be liable for these accidents, however the arrogance that The Canyons resort has exhibited during its expansion is inexcusable: I.e. "Let's expand into mediocre private terrain in order to increase our acreage into forest service land de facto.

  9. RIP IT UP BRAH!!!! FUCK YEAH!!!!
  10. What other city can you just GET playoff tickets in? How much were they? 50 bucks? I couldn't even get regular season tix for the Eagles, and when I did manage to get a lead on some they were 300 bucks for nose-bleeds. You better hope Seattle loses this weekend cuz PHILLY WILL CRUSH THEM ON THE 16TH GO EAGLES!

    Soup?

You need. 1) Miso - buy at asian market NOT hippy health food store. 2) Han Dashi -- this is for quick and dirty recipe, instant fish broth, main ingredient is MSG, but mmm mmm good. or Dried sardines (sold in bags at asian market), cut off heads and gut. Bring to a brief boil in a large pot and skim filth. Strain broth. You have created a traditional Dashi soup base for miso soup. 3) Cut wakame. Usually comes in a packet, they look tiny, but you sprinkle them in the soup at the end and man do they expand. 4) Cut fresh green onion. 5) firm silken tofu, cut in cubes. Make Dashi, Mix miso with small amount of broth to thin, then add to pot of broth. Add in tofu and green onion (you can boil these first, but don't boil with miso added because you loose healthy benefits). Add wakame. Serve. P.S. Hippies make it with just miso. You are dumb. That is not miso soup.
  12. Haven't tried them, and doubt many have. Here's my 2 cents: Why even bother with a ski made by a company (G3) who has major problems with multiple products when so many other ski companies are making skis almost exlusively, have been for years, and everyone is riding and reviewing them? It's obvious that G3 wants a piece of every part of the market, quality be damned. I can think of another company with the same business model, and they make the same mistakes as G3 ---- Black Diamond. They just have the capital behind them to fix their screw-ups more quickly. Sorry to be so down on your request, but can G3 REALLY be offering a product that even matches what's already on the market? If they are, then the skis are made by someone who is already making skis under a different name.
  13. You'd think by reading this website sometimes that people never fucking look at a climbing magazine or actually read a BOOK about climbing, much less climb themselves. Fucking get a clue.
  14. And I will take the credit for bringing the attention over there to this disturbingly-homo thread. I read this shitbird, and somehow I'm reminded of John Candy and Steve Martin together in that motel room... Wow, good for you you SlobKnob. Attaboy!
  15. BTW, Fellator. It's spelled "clique". It sure is cool though how you're still rebelling against the cool kids to feel cooler than them by proclaiming that you don't care if you're cool.
  16. Hey Necro, does hair grow halfway along the length of your cock, cuz that's my fetish du jour. Otherwise keep on whippin' off of 5.9 fingercracks (yeah I know the guidebook calls it 10a bu it ain't), douche bag!
  17. OMFG, is he wearing a NEUROSIS shirt with a pair of Birkenstocks, What a FUCKING SELLOUT!!!!!
  18. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, he even sounds self-righteous through a messenger.
  19. yes. fixed heel. E-Rock. I was on a hut trip w/a 10 mile approach, 6 or so is meadow flat. Sure, splitboarders made it in. Sure they can log vertical. Did it look like the best tool for the job - hell no. Boarders claim that boards are the best tool for the job on the DOWNHILL, they make sacrifices (and in my estimation which was the argument that I was making), split boards are a negligible sacrifice for the users. Are FAT SKIS the best tool for the job? On the the downhill yes. On the slog, no. Dig?
  20. We got half in inch in Central New York that melted today!
  21. Lars, Look up Standard Deviation of the mean, and Standard Error. Moron.
  22. would probably change? the count and re-count so far have both shown rossi with the win. reminds me of that old saying... "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result each time." Wow, you express full understanding of statistics. You flip a coin twice and heads come up twice, it must be a two-headed coin, right? Dolt.
