octopuswithafez Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I noticed this on the Mounties site about their new HQ opening in Sept '08 "The climbing plaza will be around 3,000 square feet and consist of a climbing wall of roughly 34 feet in height and 90 feet in width. An open space will be included in the climbing plaza, bordered by more climbing, scrambling and hiking terrain for practice on slabs and hillsides. The climbing facility, as part of the lease formula, will be owned by the city and open to the public." Mountaineers Press Release April 2007 Interesting... Quote
octopuswithafez Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 Found this as well on the seattle.gov site "A rock climbing wall and adjacent plaza will be constructed for use by Mountaineers classes and the general public." seattle.gov site for mounties Quote
tomtom Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 The Mountaineers are renovating one of the old Navy buildings in Magnusson Park to use as a new clubhouse. After renovation, the building will still be owned by the city but leased by the club. As part of the renovation, the Mountaineers are building a climbing plaza on the south side of the building. This will include a climbing wall as well as a free standing boulder. The climbing structures are being built by EntrePrise. This too will be owned by the city. After completion, the Mountaineers will have first right to reserve the plaza, but it will be open to the public otherwise. Quote
Jens Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Hurray- the mounties are going to clear out of my gym in six months! Quote
Serenity Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I remember you telling me many times how enamored you are of the Mounties. Or was that all pillow talk baby? Quote
selkirk Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Is the wall going to be indoors or outdoors? Quote
StreetBoss Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 I remember you telling me many times how enamored you are of the Mounties. Or was that all pillow talk baby? ahhhh the truth of pillow talk. Quote
octopuswithafez Posted March 24, 2008 Author Posted March 24, 2008 From the wording, I'd say outside, but I haven't any actual plans posted Quote
Phil K Posted March 24, 2008 Posted March 24, 2008 Outside. Plus an aid practice area on the north wall and indoor facilities. Quote
octopuswithafez Posted March 25, 2008 Author Posted March 25, 2008 Hmm, an Aid practice area? So for placing gear or just bolt ladders? This could be quite fun Quote
catbirdseat Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 I don't think the bolt ladders will be open to the public. Neither will the indoor walls. Quote

FENDERFUCK, please post a warning for all to see!! Quote
Doug Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I had an opportunity to see the new structure they'll be putting in. Quite nice! It has cracks, chockstones, chimney's and a nice texture to it. Besides the climbing wall, there'll also be a boulder field (being put in right now). Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I had an opportunity to see the new structure they'll be putting in. Quite nice! It has cracks, chockstones, chimney's and a nice texture to it. Besides the climbing wall, there'll also be a boulder field (being put in right now). the only problem is that required clothing to use the gym includes shorts over polypro, gaiters and a helmut with your name duct-taped to the front. fenderfour Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 so these guys are gonna call dibs, right?? FENDERFUCK, please post a warning for all to see!! Your clever use of the English language is charming. Even though I'm not a Mountaineer, I will do what I can to let you toprope one of the blue 5.6's. Quote
builder206 Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 I hear there'll be a freezer room where you can practice ice climbing, plus the Basic students can do their "snow overnight" without leaving the city. Quote
olyclimber Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 that place is all climbed out. do you think with proximity to fred that he was just going to let it sit there? Quote
builder206 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 They'll turn the thermostat up to send it out of condition. After a couple weeks, they'll turn it down again. The Mounties will be all ooh and aah, our freezer is back in! and it will be like climbing it for the first time again. Quote
Clarence Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 There are a few pictures of the structure up on their homepage now. http://mountaineers.org/ Quote
fenderfour Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 It looks like they are installing some rad fourth class lines. Quote
builder206 Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 After all the trash talk aimed their way on this board, I'm sure they'd love to open the place to all users. Quote
fenderfour Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 I'm interested. The only chockstones to practice on at the gym are the fat guys who can't make it up the 5.6. They get a little pissy when you use their ear as a mono pocket and climb through. Quote
Rad Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 If they can hold a myriad of classes on this crag that should free up Classic Crack so RUMR can finally get his pinkpoint. Quote
