BelaySlave Posted March 11, 2004 Posted March 11, 2004 Hey Scot', I live in Ever-rot. You need to hit me up with the secret cracks and boulders. I used to climb under the Everett Ave overpass over the train tracks. It got nasty down there. Quote
Ursa_Eagle Posted March 11, 2004 Posted March 11, 2004 Personally, I like Portland. Climbing was the main reason I wanted to move to the PNW, though it's not the only reason, and Portland suits my needs just fine. However, after my 8th trip to the North Cascades last summer, I was really wishing I had chosen someplace a little north of Seattle. Quote
top_op Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 one word : Enumclaw step out your back door and you are there Quote
Stefan Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Marblemount. Â Rains a lot. But access is sweet. Other than that, if somebody paid for my home....I think it would be Whistler. Quote
Alex Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Everett is where it's at fool. You just don't know the secret bouldering spots and crack problems that are in suburban everett. Â Yea yea there are lots of crack problems in Everett. I hear about it on the news every night. Â I think thats why he likes it. They aren't into pot there... Quote
mvs Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 I looked for that sweet granite in Renton, I just couldn't find the cliff behind that school. I'd better read the instructions and try again... Quote
griz Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Winter is almost over in CO and I'm itching to head to the land of the volcanos and big glaciers. I work from home so I can live wherever I want. Right now I'm thinking that Bend has the best access to (in order of importance) mountaineering, spring skiing, rock and social life. My question... where would you go if you were moving to the N West? Â Dude, living in the PNW is like being married to a beautiful woman... that is nearly always sick. Â If you do move there then check out the dry, sunny eastern side of the mtns and spare yourself some SADD... Quote
cracked Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 I lived in OR for nearly 16 years. I moved to Seattle last year. There's no comparison. OR sucks compared to washington. Most stuff is within reasonable driving distance. Quote
AlpineK Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 one word : Enumclaw   Hey man if you're totally down with climbing Rainier over and over and doing crank then Enumclaw is da bomb Quote
catbirdseat Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 I guess we are all assuming that you don't need to work, aren't we? If that is the case, then only climbing access and cheap digs are the criteria. I'd live in Wenatchee or Twisp, probably. All the amenities, more sun than the west side. Close to good granite or skiing. There's fishing and water skiing too. Cost of living is less. Quote
klenke Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 If you like fastfood, I definitely recommend Wenatchee. They've got three of each chain. Where as, finding a regular restaurant in that town is as hard as finding the obvious gully. Quote
EWolfe Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Bellingham is great! It's booming, and the place is crazy with beautiful women. Housing is pretty cheap, but jobs are not plentiful. Â Baker, Squamish is a coupla hours away. Skaha a couple of more, Washington Pass right there. Index is shooting distance, and ice climbing is not too far either. Â No good cragging nearby is a bummer, but for the most part it is a fun town. Good brewpub, music scene. Quote
fern Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 I guess we are all assuming that you don't need to work, aren't we? Â no I think we bothered to read the 2nd sentence of the original post. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 i'm "originally" from seattle (lived there for nearly 13 years), but i'll be headed for squamish as soon as my telluride winter is officially over. i sure wish there was more of it left to get more wi in first, though! i don't know about the social life there, but i think everything else is close enough to make it worth it. Where as, finding a regular restaurant in that town is as hard as finding the obvious gully. Â McGlenn's, the Wok About Grill, Former Owl Drug soda Fountain, La Fuenta.... oh there are pleanty. Quote
hopalong Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 I'd say Seattle is probably your best bet. As far as cities go anyway. Vancouver B.C. would be really cool too. Quote
layton Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 oregon is the redhedded bastard stepchild of washington. I'd say bellilngham, but there's no good climbing for after work although squishy is only 1.5 away. I'd move to Vancouver B.C. if I had to choose. Quote
PONCHO&LEFTY Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Vancouver=blaaaah Seattle=cool Bellingham=perfect There are jobs in Bellingham, but it takes a while. No great climbing close by, but Larabee is scenic and Erie is usually dry and pretty cool, plus squamish is really cool for a weekend trip. Quote
PONCHO&LEFTY Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Not many dude bros either. Bunch of kind fellow dorkuses though. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Vancouver=blaaaah Seattle=cool Bellingham=perfect vancouver is actually a pretty cool city when you need that city fix. seattle is cool, too ... but for crying out loud don't end up in the 'ham!!! Quote
cj001f Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Bend is a cool town, Its not that close the volcanoes either. At least not closer than many other areas. Hmm. Bachelor, the Sisters, Jefferson, are all a might bit closer to Bend than Hood. And are all volcanic. You seen those things they call maps? Quote
