Dru Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 so Kurt and I went up on the Grand Walll yesterday and cut down the tree at the base of the split pillar. take that, trees! Quote
EWolfe Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Nice try, Dru. Layton and I were leaving in the pouring rain at 4:30 PM, and looking for strands. The tree was still there. The gimp hung on like a champ - got up Milkman, Shaman pretty good! Quote

Dru Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 you shoulda seen the peregrine falcons in that tree making a ruckus when the chainsaw started up Quote
jordop Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Yeah, well I burned some trees. In the alpine . Ahem And then the rain put the fire out Quote
Blake Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 This tree at Index, and the tree at Beacon have gotten argued over ridiculous amounts. Look at the bigger picture. It's like you can't see the forest for the trees. Quote
AlpineK Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 As a postscript I did cut down the maple at the base of Godzilla last year (no troll) I checked for Uncle Tricky hanging out in a portaledge first. He wasn't there. There was some woman at the base of a nearby climb. I walked by her with a chain saw and said, "I'm going to make a little noise." She glared at me as I dropped the tree into the swamp but never said a thing. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Hey Kurt! Could you come over and do some work on the local pooder stash? Would be nice to have some thinned out tree runs. Quote
AlpineK Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I'm sure there are lots of trees that deserve death for the greater good, but I'm kind of lazy about it when I'm not getting paid. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 You'll get paid in turns. Ahh fuck it, I'll just set it to fire this summer. Quote
Choada_Boy Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 I recently received a grant from BC Forestries and the Twixelptiluiptic tribe to consult on the restoration of the Stawamus Chief to the condition it was in when the First People made their way over the land bridge from asia. The result of our efforts can be seen below. It should look even more impressive from the new Tram to the summit that is currently under construction. Before: After: Quote
matt_m Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Heh - This old thread brings up a good question - Are there times and places where cutting down some trees is a good thing for the area as a whole? While touchy I'm sure I'd argue most definitely yes. Parks and other "developed spaces" have a lot of benefits vastly outweighing the small patch of trees sacrificed in their making. (Forests etc should still be protected, don't get me wrong here.) Good example: Index Walls. Obviously there's a lot of "growth" around the base that's a nuisance to climbers (lots of "weed trees" among the old, proud trees) We also have talked lately about the upper wall trundling issues and how increasing foot traffic in the area might help with this issue. Why not turn the lower wall into a "park" of some sort? Thin out the weed trees, landscape the area, throw some grass down and boom! Nice open park to visit, hike to the top from, eat lunch at etc etc - Crazy non PC idea? You bet Quote
Mos_Chillin Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 After 2 years, 8 months and 15 or so days? Quote
G-spotter Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 what is the first most largest solid granite rock in the whole world? is it trango tower, or the thing in greenland? does it have any trees? Quote
