  1. High of 62 in Portland tomorrow
  2. The Helmet
  3. Or if this were the first rappelling accident at the Ice Park.
  4. Dana Designs made one called the "Hattarp". It was a 2man bivy that could be zipped open to form a sleeping tarp. Don't know where you'd find one.
  5. So close we were to the epicenter!
  6. Is Union Pacific liable for the Salem dodge a train? Seriously - I'd prefer to see US ski areas evolve to where your lift ticket pays for the US of the lifts and a portion of controlled pistes. If you want to ski elsewhere, have at it - at your own risk.
  7. Yesterdays forecast had a high of 7C for this weekend?
  8. Thanks to Mike & Simon from Van. for helping out w/First Aid We owe you $20. From my vantage point it looked like the ice failed at the top of the bulge.
  9. One of the primary impacts of "global warming" is increased "instability". Greater temperature fluctuations, record drought followed by rain, etc. In short, the end of "normal" seasons.
  10. Do any of the bars stay open later than 11pm?
  11. If you haven't found them already the Economist's briefings are an excellent source of uptodate world information. Indonesia briefing If I were headed to Java I'd go surfing
  12. Marylou- The current State Dept. Travel Warning for Indonesia makes no mention of the Tsunami that hit last month, the chaos that has ensued, and the current tension over relief workers. That's not very useful information.
  13. State?! CNN! Things are changing quickly over there...
  14. Would you rush back to Prineville?

    The Pedo-Files

And will henceforth be known as "The NAMBLA Network"
  17. The Cicerone guides are available from Amazon. When did you go that you ran into the routes being closed for snow?
  18. Given the Seattle traffic you'll spend more time in your car getting to/from work. As for the women - you've got some heavy strength beer goggles
  19. http://www.math.utah.edu/~eyre/rsbfaq/huts.html
  20. Yes. Plenty of potential. Most of the spires in the attached pick have 1-2 routes, with plenty more possible. Cheap living, and the best season's just beginning (March from what I hear!)
  21. A:Yes. Standard MSR/etc gas canisters are available in BRC and elsewhere. White Gas is harder to find. Prices have gone up for Frey - Pizzas are AR$18 You can buy the Rolo guidebook at the CAB office on Morales in BRC; the looseleaf paper guidebook at the Refugio is the most complete. Routes are tough for their grade. If you try the Refugio Jakob to Refugio Italia traverse make sure you can get down what you went up; don't be like the f'ing Austrians who needed a rescue (roca con agua es mierda!)
  22. Anybody try the North Face's Belay Jacket/Elephant's Foot zip combo avaiable a couple years ago?
  23. Any issue of Ascent. Available cheap(library or eBay), best climbing reading around.
  24. Hmm. I compared all 3 in the store. I liked the Mountain Hardwear least of all because it's overbuilt and underfilled. The micropuffs were quite nice. You've never met me; you don't know dick about me
  25. The Chugach's? Overbuilt! You don't need handwarmer pockets! Puff pants weigh 7oz less. Fission's look alright; Micro puffs are still lighter.
