  1. The question is are others reducing their gas consumption, not any one person. But then your just being a blowhard - you still haven't responded to my post above. Heaven forbid you recognize the social engineering that went into the autocentric society we inhabit.
  2. Nice namedropping NOLSe! Drytooling's just the in thing right now, like all things, that will change.
  3. Ah, so you prefer the taxes to be serreptitiously routed through your end of year local, state and federal tax bill? Instead of taking the money to build a new bridge out of my taxes - add it to the gas tax. Instead of taking money to build a new road out of my local tax bill - add it to the gas tax. This isn't social engineering, it's accountability.
  4. Price does not effect gasoline habits for minor changes: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4908148/ Relative to the rest of the world, relative to the problems it creates gas is still dirt cheap in America.
  5. Right now gas prices are still ridiculously low in the US. The average person drives 15,000 miles/year. Their vehicle gets 15mpg - 1,000 gallons of gass a year. $.20 drop saves them $200 a year - less than $20 a month.
  6. As gas is not priced at it's societal impact, no it's not a bad thing. As gas prics rise people will make free market conservation choices. Ridiculously low fuel prices cause only inefficencies. A "rational" policy on nuclear energy would be good. A "rational" policy must also allow for the treatment and storage of nuclear waste - which currently have no provisions for. Part of the European solution is the use of a breeder reactor - we refuse to do that because of the possibility of terrorism
  7. There's only one king The Dingleberry
  8. Patagonia DAS or Cloudveil Enclosure.
  9. You've never been to Argentina I can tell.
  10. Food's cheaper, beer's hella more expensive. Bring booze.
  11. An international ticket will run you >$700 most of the time unless you've got FF miles/other hookups. Add a couple hundred for other fees. It won't be as cheap as Bolivia or Peru, but Argentina's pretty damn cheap, has excellent climbing (look up Refugio Frey) and will soon be going up in price as their economy gets back off the ground. Unless some nast job interferes I'm planning to be there for March and most of April. You can easily drive to Utah and climb your ass off for less than that.
  12. I found parts of an Ascension skin in front of the MAC last year. And my street was a nice skate lane
  13. If you go down to the Smith today, You're sure of a big surprise If you go down to the Smith today, You'd better go in disguise. For ev'ry gaper that ever there was, Will gather there for certain, because Today's the day the gapers have their picnic.
  14. I've stopped following that policy after bringing the same book on 3 trips in a row. Pick something mildly palatable (I like Russian novels in translation, War & Peace, Master & Margarita )
  15. Impression Die Forged. So what? The picks would still be less than $125. Say $75. Which is cheaper than $125. Which is why Grivel doesn't like the idea of replaceable picks.
  16. Remember the best way to stop Spam e-mail is to reply to them.
  17. They pass the costs on to all of their customers. It isn't the most direct feedback mechanism.
  18. That costs the Post Office money. If you open it & return it it costs the junk mail sender money.
  19. You don't burn snow, you burn the bottom of the pot. And then everything tastes really nasty. Usually happens if you have the stove cranked and nothing in the pot.
  20. Cellphone's been my only phone since '99. Never have problems I just shread the junkmail. Amusingly I've never had the time to do anything else
  21. Where was the first half? Did I sneeze and miss it?

    Inaugural Address

DC is an anachronism. Separated from Virginina/Maryland for a reason... consult a history textbook. I was born there. DC is a city of 572,000 people who have no representation in government. They have even less self government now after Newt & Barr stripped them of budgetary power.

    Inaugural Address

Oh the humanity!!! Taxation without representation (no voting members of congress) is fine as long as it's not you?

    Inaugural Address

Not to mention DC doesn't have self government - Congress must approve the budget, among other wonderful controls. Thanks Newt, Bob Barr and the Republican Revolution
