    Treailhead Break Ins

i wonder what the legal implications of leaving some sort of injury producing booby trap in your car and what potential designs could be implemented. 1) needles infected with hepatitis C could be left scattered in the glove compartment. 2) perhaps some sort of poisonous gas system would work well in the enclosed space of a car interior. i've heard mixing chlorine bleach with certain chemicals produces chlorine gas. other ideas?

  6. i made the cat stove and used it once. simmers nicely. lightweight alcohol stoves are the shiznit among people into superlight hiking, but i wouldn't want to be melting snow with one unless i had a lot of time on my hands.
  7. a will eat your new boots if'n you ain't careful. i have the old trango plus's i don't think they make any more. the ones i have don't have a lip on the front so you have to use crampons with a toe strap (although they have the welt on the heel so you can use a semi-automatic crampon). i find the lack of the edge on the toe makes them a little squirrely on firm snow sometimes. if i got trangos i would got one of the newer models that has a regular toe lip; i don't think their rock climbing ability would suffer that much. also, you can water proof them but it won't help that much, although i have taken to carrying a pair gore tex socks and switching out with regular wool socks depending on sweat/water factor which works ok. overall a nice light boot and what i mostly use cause it's what i got.
  8. what others have said and to cross the avalanche blowdowns traverse at an even elevation. you may even notice remnants of the trail below your feet here and there. pick up the trail on the other side of each blowdown.
  9. ... trask wonders when he'll get it up again.
  10. maybe if you had a little more chi you'd be able to see the intertwining dichotomy between 0 and 1, like the equilibrium of being and nothingness, which in turn sounds like something a freedom philosopher would write about, which itself creates a vision of the totality of existense so unified it probably even includes bicycling. try doing more yoga on your crash pad.
  11. you were identified as an "at risk youth" and they screened you out dipshit.
  12. 3rd class = easy scrambling 4th class = some dirty 5th class beckey climbed where he couldn't find any pro

  14. didn't ozzie ozborne once bite the head of a bat onstage before he was a has-been?
  15. actually i experience large amounts of zen while biking. that may interfere with your karma some, but in a holeistic way there is still a net gain in total positive energy in the universe, so you are actually happier when i'm holding you up on my bike you just haven't reached a high enough level of meditation to realize it. same for trask.
  16. so basically what is being stated by many people in this thread is if you're on a bike you shouldn't ride on the road and and you shouldn't ride on the sidewalk.
  17. WOW! i just saw some fucked up shit walking across campus. minivan going west on pacific turning north onto 15th slams into cyclist going eastbound on BG. the dude is mostly unhurt and minor damage to his bike. i don't know how the driver didn't see him or that he had the right of way other than she had her eyes closed. i gave the dude my number if he needs a witness. that driver might not like cyclists but now she can face the law. i know i will get slammed for this but as a cyclist i will take may chances hopping onto sidewalks at busy intersections if it helps me avoid a collision. i would rather get a $50 ticket for improper biking than get hit by a minivan. i'm amazed that guy wasn't more hurt.
  18. techboy, water, asperin etc are all good suggestions, and yes i think there is some validity to your plan of pre-acclimating, as i have heard some doctor dude who does altitude research say it works. if you wanted a summit instead of muir you could climb baker, although i guess that wouldn't mean spending the night up there but you could if you wanted and i think that would be cool to spend the night on top. i skied the standard coleman route a couple days ago and it is in great shape. you could get down baker in a whiteout almost as easily as muir if the weather went south while you're up there.
  19. we were on the bagely icefield this time of year 2 years ago and it was mostly too warm for the climbing we wanted to do. i'm thinking you want to be earlier in the season for colder temps, particularly as with the sun never setting it doesn't get cold enough at night. we thought we were getting a sat phone, but screwed up somewhere so paul klaus gave us a radio and said we'd be able to contact jetliners flying into ancorage, but i guess this depends on exactly where you are sitting.
  20. that's 35 for you slow connection types.
