Canada Public Announcement U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE Office of the Spokesman March 28, 2003 This Public Announcement is being issued to alert U.S. citizens to the declaration of a Provincial health emergency in Ontario, Canada. This Announcement expires on June 26, 2003. On March 26, the Government of Ontario declared Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) to be a provincial emergency. The declaration follows the deaths of three individuals from SARS and the apparent manifestations of the disease in more than 50 individuals across the province. Canada is attempting to limit the spread of the outbreak by screening all passengers at airports for SARS symptoms. Health Canada sent staff to Pearson and Vancouver International Airports to help monitor passengers arriving on direct flights from affected areas for flu-like symptoms and to assist those who appear to be ill. Two major hospitals have been closed or restricted in the past 24-48 hours; other hospitals may also be affected. Ontario hospitals are operating under severe measures such as limiting access, restricting patient transfers between hospitals and requesting that those at risk of developing SARS place themselves under voluntary quarantine in their homes. Detailed information on SARS is available from the Centers for Disease Control, http://www.cdc.gov, the World Health Organization <http://www.who.int> and the Canadian Health Organization, http://www.health.gov.on.cal>. A Fact Sheet for American citizens traveling abroad based on information from those websites is also available at the website of the Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs, http://travel.state.gov. Information from Health Canada is available at www.hc-sc.qc.ca. For further information on travel to Canada, please consult the Department of State's Consular Information Sheet, available on the Bureau of Consular Affairs home page at http://www.travel.state.gov. The U.S. Embassy is located in Ottawa, Canada at 490 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1N 1G8, telephone (613)238-5335; website at http://usembassy.state.gov/canada. *********************************************************** See http://travel.state.gov/travel_warnings.html for State Department Travel Warnings

i dug a snow cave just below pan point this time last year and the snow was rock hard. it was a lot of work.
-
careful chuck, you might want to specify that people can't sleep on it while it's still at your place.

high on the list of cool experiences i have had was getting a joyride in a kiawa scout chopper 20 feet over the karst korean landscape. the pilot went down in deep gorges only to let updrafts whip the aircraft up the gorge at rollercoaster speed. the abilities of the video/thermal cameras mounted above the main rotor are amazing, as i got to see riding in the left seat. disclaimer: people dying sucks

what are the choices?
-
s- i told you dru would know all about it
-
pshaw. my picture has more snow on it. i would never ski that thing on bivouac.
-
the attached photo has some some interesting possibilities for ski descents. the obvious wide couloir to the right looks seriously fun. two more interesting possiblities are visible to the left. unfortunately i have to keep the location a total secret. tsk tsk.

could erik and iain please get different avatar gifs? i have to speed browse spray these days and it's easier to keep track ofthe back and forth. thanks.
-
damn. i'm going to bc in a couple hours and there isn't going to be ANY snow north of the border.

on a smooth sirface like a table top you can sprinkle a little salt, set the egg (it will be held in place by a few grains) and blow the remaining salt away.
-
i hear dan is going to produce some documents supporting his speed ascent of rainier.
-
anyway, i'm somewhat skeptical that it would work well. i tried several glow in the dark strategies hoping we could play kayak polo out in the deeper water at night without using lights, including a glow in the dark volleyball that didn't work for shit.
-
why not just get a flourescent dyed rope and use a black light headlamp??????? a little more eh?
-
so now when you pull on gear it's called "freedom freeing"?
-
so when are they going to floridinate bellevue? i wanna see some pink flamingos dammit.

i sent the link to my mom, who BTW forwards to me every single urban legend that lands in her inbox. we'll see what happens.

a couple things the public might be interested in about trail park fees: the same forest service basically subsidizes logging. most years the forest service spends twice as much building and maintaining logging roads as it collects in land use fees from loggers. look at the political background to the fees. the parking fees were apparently suggested and strongly supported by the american recreation coalition (arc). the arc is a lobby group funded by r.v., snowmobile, and dirt bike manufacturers. motorized use of the backcountry has come under fire (see yellowstone snowmobile debacle). the motorized users figure if they are paying to park on public lands it will garuantee their continued access despite the environmental consequences and public criticism.

i think fred's only about 80, so how long he's been helping people-ettes enjoy rainier is less than 100 years, eh?

read my lips (you probably need broadband)

does the $72 allow us to ride the lifts after the race until the 3:30 drawings?
