I have to log in twice to make a post or send a message. I hate those shit-brown streaks too.

[TR] Smith Rocks Monkey Face - West Face Aid Route 10/27/2007

Wait until you make that first move out of the cave to the top. You are catching big air then (at least for orygun). -
[TR] Smith Rocks Monkey Face - West Face Aid Route 10/27/2007

Take some hooks next time and you wont have any problems with reaching that first bolt. Coming out of the cave to the top is essentially just two moves of easy aid and then a scramble to the top. Thats a fun route to get your clean aiding dialed in. I had the same feeling about rapping out of that cave though--it was up and over for us though--we only had one rope. -
Hey Bill--send a PM to shredmaximus. He probably has tons.

Milwaukie is not a bad place. Close proximity to Carver and Madrone (if Madrone ever gets opened). Faster access to Mt. Hood and Smith then Portland proper. Sellwood, Woodstock, Westmoreland are all great Portland neighborhoods close to Milwaukie. A bit further to Broughtons, Beacon and the Gorge.

Or maybe the science/tech geeks have nearly constant access to a computer. Most of my climbing friends are general contractors/construction and rarely answer their email (if they have it), much less post on cascadeclimbers.

Pretty cool pictures--the one of his dash is pretty interesting.

You're looking for legal advice on a climbing forum? I'm not an attorney but I have stayed in a Residence Inn. Google is your friend. If you are too lazy to do that (might I suggest searching the Oregonian archives? I seem to recall this issue being raised in the local press recently) then here ya go: Did you not know a golf course was there when you moved in? Good luck getting much sympathy on that one. Call your insurance agent--watch your rates go up. And up. And up. Move.

Malcolm Daly (Trango) used to post all the time.

First off, from what I understand what happened to me is pretty uncommon. I was up at 19K feet in Bolivia and slept with my contacts in (they were gas permeable but apparently not THAT permeable). I awoke with blurry vision which, as you can well imagine, was a bit alarming at that altitude since we were concerned it might be cerebral edema. I had no other symptoms. I took out the contacts and put on glasses but my vision continued to worsen so we bailed down to base camp at around 15K. Within a short time my vision returned to normal. Serendipitously, an opthalmologist who was part of a group from Brazil checked out my eyes at base camp and said I had corneal edema that was caused by the contacts. As I understand it, the contacts restricted the flow of oxygen to my eyes which caused my corneas to swell. He told me not to wear contacts at altitude again. I had Lasik done as soon as I got back to the US.

It used to be that a number of BDEL employees frequented the climbing boards offering route info, equipment beta and testing. Chris Harmston used to be a prolific poster on rec.climbing and would pretty much pull-test anything you sent him--a lot of his research is still available. Now the only time you get an employee-owner from BDEL speaking up is when someone slags their product and then its only to do a marketing pitch.

Vacation lodging in the North Cascades (winter)?
rbw1966 replied to Chad_A's topic in North Cascades
Another thumbs up for Sun Mountain Lodge. We spent xmas there last year in one of their cabins and it was very nice. -
I could not disagree more with this. Non-issue my ass--if it wasn't an issue than why aren't those private contractors displaying their patriotism in the ranks of the military? I simply don't buy the arguement that a lot of them are retired either (if you got proof lets see it). They are leaving the military to join places like Blackwater BECAUSE of the money, not in spite of it. Clear as water--they left their other jobs for a more lucrative salary with the private contractors. Both the contractors and the military are voluntary choices, just with differing motives. No one joins the military for the salary.

No problems with lasik at 20K. I did have problems before lasik with contacts at altitude.

There are some tours you can do through there without a snowmachine but the good stuff is most readily accessed via snowmachine. I can't remember the stuff we did but if you go to the store in Mazama they can give you some beta. What we did was ok for a workout but not terribly interesting for the work involved.

I saw him three times. Once in Germany at a high school auditoreum and twice in Oregon.

Ivan--you get my PM?

The judge may have been cruel and capricious but I don't think the Ranger was necessarily being so. As you were jsut doing your job enforcing the penalties, so was the Ranger. I'll bet that Ranger wasn't issuing citations to everyone and, perhaps, there was something about this situation that made it warranted to the Ranger--just as you saw something which elevated the penalty in the case you refer to (which I admittedly know nothing about but, as an aside, isn't looking at the contents of the students ipod a violation of his/her constitutional rights? What kind of liberal are you? HA!) The Judge on the other hand was excessive--but I know here in Oregon that the traffic court judges have started increasing fines for people who plead guilty yet take up the courts time with personal appearances in the hopes of reducing their fine instead of just paying the fine.

Are you a tool when you enforce the rules of your school?

It has been pointed out to me that in fact they are one and the same.

Federal Judges are appointed, not voted into their positions. I just read the link that Nolse posted where you guys got paid for a picture and you said it wouldn't cover the fine you got then too. Not that I am any advocate for paying to access public lands but, c'mon--don't you guys learn anything? Sounds like the judge increased the fine because the statutory penalty clearly wasn't much of a deterrant for you.

What about a gubmint sponsored HSA/catastrophic health plan that rolls over like a 401k? We got that here at my office and I think its the best of all worlds. Covers me if something major happens, allows me to control all aspects of my healthcare and what I don't spend rolls over year to year. Best of all, its very inexpensive. I wouldn't trust the same beaurocrats who brought you "Iraq I" and "Iraq II", the Dept of Homeland Security and Guantanamo Bay to control my healthcare. Keep it in the private sector but instill more adequate controls. If some insurance company denies me a necessary surgery I have recourse in the civil courts--I doubt that would be the case if medical care was nationalized. Every tried to get treatment at the VA? Not fun or easy.
