  1. That place stands out in my mind for reasons that, coincidentally, probably account for why I can't remember the name of the fine establishment as well as how to spell the town. Hows it going Pax?
  2. Lilloet?
  3. Post of the day! Layton, I'll take two t-shirts with this on it.
  4. Where the hell were you?
  5. Unless you have access to a snowmobile.
  6. Helprin's book is about a soldier in the Italian Alps during WWI. It covers climbing but only as it relates to the war. It is, however, a great book. If you like Memoir from Antproof Case you will like Soldier of a Great War.
  7. woodsgirl will fit in just fine here. Good friend of mine lives in naches.

    Birthday Rant

You registered nearly 2 years ago and have a whopping 40 posts. Who's a voyeur? Nice Rant, Rob. I think you pretty much voiced what all the regulars think/feel.
  10. John Long has a really funny book about climbing mishaps--I think its called Close Calls.
  11. I forgot Jrat moved. I'll be in winthrop while you're in SLC. Then I am off to sunny Oklahoma City for 3 weeks for work. Kill me now.
  12. I've said it before and maybe it warrants being said again, but electronic gizmos like these can lull one into a false sense of security, heading out when they shouldn't. "Oh we'll be ok because we've got a PLB, Sat phone and MLU." They are no substitute for good judgment, experience and training.
  13. jfmctlaw's trancscription wouldn't be quite so bothersome if he/she didn't repeat the same thing in a rapid-fire barrage clogging up the servers. However, as someone else pointed out you can go to oregonlive.com and get updates as well. I understand everyone's concern and desire to remain informed but please also remember that there are close friends/relatives of these climbers reading this. Save your critiques of the climbers for a different area of the board.

    Risk- why?

Or perhaps she wants to live your life for you? As for me, life is a terminal illness. Recognizing that and living in a way that brings ME joy and satisfaction is how I choose to live. I'd rather my loved ones pursue their passions, than living by whatever arbitrary code someone else dictates for them.
  15. God thats sad news.
  16. Incredible how many kevbone-clones are rockin' that thread.
  17. MLUs are beacon's--they can be used all over the mountain.
  18. That's just an adolescent, ignorant response, IMO. And in my opinion you're an asshole trying to stir people up. You introduced the analogy of climbing with an MLU and swimming with a life vest, not G spotter. He just pointed out the shortcomings of your analogy. Just out of curiousity, since your the badass lifeguard, who the hell do you know who actually swims with a life jacket on? I can see paddling/boating with one on but swimming? Give me a break. As for the MLU, oftentimes extra safety equipment can lull someone into a sense of complacency, taking risks when they shouldn't. They were used mostly for body recovery around here. Cell phone coverage used to be excellent all over the mountain until the switch to digital.
  19. Beautiful view of Mt. Hood from pdx today. Godspeed!
  20. It gets buried by snow. I wouldn't count on it being accessible in winter.
  21. Luke=trask
  22. Very cool video. Thanks for posting it!
