I've been using the Yates Rocker (same as the Singing Rock) for 4 years now and never used a chest harness. I wonder if that's a new caution because I don't recall reading that in my docs for the Yates. Not sure if it's a recommendation that was added by Singing Rock as a change to the Yates manual, but now that you mention it, I've seen a quite a few folks using the Yates and none of them with a chest harness. I decided to go w/using it with mine; keeps the device oriented properly, and with it positioned higher up, the catch feel more like a that of a like toprope fall. The folks at Patroller Supply(where I bought it) explained that the harness was especially important if you were doing overhanging or roofy type routes, where you could flip over if you fell. Catching at your chest may help prevent that? Even with the chest harness, I love the way the device runs and catches. It also lets you downclimb, a feature which I really liked. You can also keep it on the rope while you rappell by attaching your gri gri above it and holding it in the "unlocked" position as you rap. Makes it easy to burn lap after lap because you don't have to go through setting it up each time.

Wait til you see the look they give you when you make THEM carry the (full)poop bag.

That's coming off your post count, buddy.

Bummer. Hope they find their way back to you.

What, and miss out on the chance to mope around the house while it rains cats and dogs outside here?

Lucky dog! I'm basically reiterating what's been stated up thread, but here's my .o2: We use the Ruffwear harnesses for our three and have found that the "assistance handle" is invaluable. Helps you guide or stabilize them over all sorts of uneven terrain and obstacles(like fallen logs, steep trail sections, boulders etc). Might not be much of an issue now while Puppy is limber and spry, but as age runs its course you'll find that you are "assisting" them more and more. Even now, though, if you're all at nervous about somthing they're about to "send", you can always grab the handle and give 'em a safe "belay." Have fun out there!

But think of how useful all that good karma will be. Good job doin' somebody right.

Most of the guide companies offer 1-3 day weekend courses, as well, pretty much now thru fall. (Check out websites of Mountain Madness, Northwest Mountain School, Squamish Rock Guides...for dates/info/prices, etc.) I think Squamish Rock Guides also runs 5-day "Complete Rock" course.

Kevino, Mostly, I use it with a 10.2mm but have also ran it on my 10mm. On the smaller rope, or before a sketchy move above a ledge, I will adjust the tension lever (it's the button that puts it in/out of "locked" mode) so that it is running in a partially closed position--prevents extra rope from feeding through before it catches. Nice to have that option if you're nervous about that at all. Mfr recommends using an 11mm rope, and a chest harness. Singing Rock Locker device

Thanks for posting up the feedback on your impressions of the SP, LanceG. I've been considering going that route myself in the near future. Keep 'em coming, if you don't mind... For burning top-rope laps, I've been using a Singing Rock Locker--it's like the old Troll Rocker--which works beautifully for that purpose but not for self-belayed leading.

Hey Jud, Glad it sounds like all systems are still "go" for your course! As for the rain, you're right, you've just got to go with flow up there. The guides know how to make the most of what Mother Nature throws at them. I think it rained during both of my courses, and those were in mid-summer. We spent a lot of time plugging gear into the cracks under Zombie roof. Have fun and think sun.

Hey Jud, Great idea to post-up for folks as a way to fill out the course quota. I took a couple of those courses a year or so ago with SRG and they were a great resource. I'd recommend them to anyone wanting to build some solid skills in a safe, instructional environment. I know someone else who is wanting to do that course(trad lead), but I suspect the weather forecast will be a deal-killer for considering doing it this weekend. If you end up postponing, let us know the next one you are shooting for and I'll pass along the info to her. Good luck!

I was using IE, too. I want better drugs if we're going to do more experiments. TIA!

I see a big black box covering half the screen when I go to the homepage. I have to do an end run around it(by clicking on a trip report at the bottom of the page) to get into the forums(everything else is blocked by the black box of death). This just started this afternoon....

I'm just easy. Sign me up for the next trip.

I don't know, but the suspense is killing me.

Did Jesus like green bean casserole? Seems like it shows up on every holiday table. (Sorry it's a little OT, but it had to be said.)

That's brutal.
