  1. go dryith sheath and core. if the sheath only water may and will get into the core seeping through the weave of the sheath. I have double dry and my ropes stay not mater what.
  2. This weekend I would stay away from the steeps.
  3. I don't own those boots. but have ski boots with modable liners of which I am getting new ones later this week. I will have to second what OlympicBoy said. You should have 1.5 fingers with just the shell not the liner. If you have that much room in the liner there is something amiss. When I bought my ski boots I had 1 finger in the shell. The liners were snug, not tight. Then I had them molded and they fit perfectly. Maybe the liner that came with the boot is too big for the boot?
  4. Pole creek. It depends on how much it snows. Right now I don't know. Maybe some of the locals could chime in and tell you how close you can get right now. I just know from past posts and locals that it could be several miles in an average year. How many I am not sure.
  5. For hard goods, rock shoes CLimbmax is the spot!! Owners are the best. Will answer any and many a question. For soft goods. OMC for clothing if you want it they most likely have it other than gloves. Went there this weekend and found them severly lacking. Maybe they are waiting to restock??? Good glove selection was found at The Mountain Shop.
  6. nice pics blurpy. Looks like a wonderful day on the Mtn. Cooper looking good and afterthis week maybe the whole area be a good ski.
  7. 2 traverse shovels fail. wow. I have had the same one for 3 years and no issues. I have the Barryvox beacon (the original) and I also like it. Small works great. The new pulse beacons are great but the pulse feature only works if the person you are looking for has a barryvox as well. I would not purchase it for that feature but rather the 3 antennae.
  8. Not enough snow to ski, ok at least for me. I could be talked into heading out. Basically a noob as well.
  9. "Long Haul" spring/summer/Fall when Cascades Lake Highway is melted out you have to start on the south side go north past green lakes to hit the North side of South Sis. Spring/Summer/Fall when you can get to Pole Creek TH. It is a long hike to get around to Camp Lake/Chambers Lake. Then you start your climb. Then you have to decide if you car shuttle or hike back to where you started. If car shuttle a little faster but still a VERY long day to good two days. And depending on how you did it you may cary over making things even harder. I think those are the best two options for those seasons. Winter now that is a totaly different story. Add on aprox 10 or more miles from both locations. Three days? or if you are crazy in shape two days for sure. For the south side approach you would start at Mount Batchlor where the Cacade Lakes highway is gated off for the season. You may be able to bribe a Slednecker to haul your but part of the way out there. If you are planning for a winter ascent take skis, screw the slowshoes.
  10. MMMM over nighter????? The north side of south sister looks like it would be sick with some fresh pow. Sign me up
  11. They talked to use and was ASSUMED (when you assume.....well you now the rest of that one) they were going to redirect via the nice fat bolted belay at the top of thier climb and ours. We did not double check what they were doing till after rope on rope action was achieved and illreversable. Next time some one will be watching forsure!!
  12. ooops just noticed that you were from springfield. Check out the UO outdoor program, or I am sure there is another climber organization down where you live. timing will be all inportant for you. Rockfall is not a trivial problem for that route. Take head of what the others have said. good luck. If you are still doing this post for a partner later in the year or get a guide service. I would have several people along to help you out!!
  13. for training, learning, and getting potential partners you could check this out. The 08 schedual should be going up after the first of the year. Also your best bet to get up in good weather will be after the class anyway. http://www.mazamas.org/your/adventure/starts-here/C55/
  14. guess I better get a new one so I can be cool too.
  15. so when are we going to have some pics of the latest gaping sprayer?? Come on timmy give up the goods.
  16. Good thing he has a two seater sled, baby seat for it?
  17. :rawk:Congrats Timmay :rawk: :rawk:
  18. option E = priceless...lol. Or one of your party could have looked over to see what the heck they were doing and stopped them before starting the trouble next time. Think we were getting close to option A. Young craggers + old rock jocks = newbie ass kicken. You just can't assume people know what they are doing anymore. Gymn rats are for the most part dumb rats. At least they TRed the route it would have been rather scary to watch them try and send that route. Glad we took option C, would have felt sorry for stompin the newbies. Could you imagine that brawl?
  19. really too bad. Seems like white trash is worse that it use to be. The good old days of traveling hippies are no longer. Time to try and find another camping location maybe? Wonder if anybody would be so bold as to take a tent with nothing in it.
  20. No kidding, or short rope me on hard move.
  21. What is this cheater stick you speak of? There is a way to make sport climbing easier? Will it help me climb that 5.12?
  22. I think we should grid bolt RB. Maybe the shear number of bolts would prevent or overwhelm who ever chops the bolts
  23. need a hold, build a hold
