Your strategy of asking a group of individuals a few hundred miles away for assistance is in direct opposition to what you think you want. 2. Climbing is expensive, even if done on the cheap. I wasn't a climber when I was a student. I didn't feel entitled to it. Please get over yourself and let your "dreams" come to pass when they can. 3. You can start getting ready. Train obsessively. If you are at a university, there is likely to be some kind of climbing club. Contact them. 4. Read books. "Training for Peak Performance" and "Mountaineering, Freedom of The Hills" are good places to start. 5. Stop making excuses and start making plans. No one is going to help make this happen more than you.

No. I was up there on Monday and most everything is buried and/or under a gnarly slope. We managed to climb something towards the end of the Winter trail. It was maybe 30' tall. It was rotten and flowing heavily, but we wanted to climb. /shrug/

The tooling development and expense for new forging dies is huge.

I did a pretty exhaustive search last season for that stuff. I could only find it online. Have you tried mastic tape? It was $3 a roll at the local Ace hardware and it is great for that second grip on an ice tool.

The issue is "gloves" once you seperate the fingers it's a lot more difficult to keep them warm. Get any old pair of gloves with a shell and a liner and add one of those disposable heat pack thingies. I usually put it between the liner and the shell on the back of my hand. The warmest gloves I've used are Dachstein boiled wool mitts. They are the shizzle.
