  1. I has a medalz!
  2. We can change this if you want. It will be more interesting if "we" does not include "Kevbone"
  3. This is an odd post, but I will bite. Packs: The terraplane is pretty darn big. It might be good for Denali, but it's 5 more pounds of pack than you need for almost everything else. There's a character who lurks around here by the name of "crackers" who makes some fine packs. Check out the Cilogear 60 liter worksack. Tents: Welcome to the singlewall revolution. The Bibler Eldorado seems to be the default for most hard-climbing folks out there. It's good for two friendly people. Adding a third would not work out well. The VE-25 is still being made and it's still as bombproof as ever. It is a bit heavy, though. The Bibler Bombshelter might be a good compromise for size, strength, and weight. Stoves: The MSR XGK is the defacto expedition stove. The Dragonfly has a similar burner. The Whisperlite is a good day-to-day lightweigth option. Cannister stoves save weight, but require some trickery to get them working well in cold temperatures. Boots: Koflachs are still widely available online. Look around a bit. You could get the Arctis Expe for a warmer boot, or get a cheaper model like the degre and add Intuition Liners Ice gear: Black Diamond just updated their ice tool line. Older Vipers and Cobras can be had for cheap. There have a been a few sets of really good tolls for sale here at a good prices. There are many different options for crampons. BD sabertooths will serve you well on Denali as well as on vertical ice. I've been a fan of Grivel products for a while. I use G-14's for steep ice.
  4. Going to Vegas instead.
  5. Used tools are definitely the best first set of tools, especially with the release of the next-gen BD tools. The rage's that John is selling are very good. You can equip them with a bunch of doo-dads to make them leashless. The Cobras that Porter is offering are lighter and transmit less vibration. Attaching leashless doo-dads is a littl emore difficult, but still possible.

  8. You're right. America always makes better products -cough- Aliens -cough- Not buying Chinese made BD gear for ethical reasons is respectable. Not buying BD because of concern over quality is alarmist bullshit. BTW - I'd like to welcome you into the 21st century. Please check the provenance of all the monufactured goods that could kill you. Your car might say Chevrolet, but most of the components come from places like China, Korea and Indonesia.
  9. People shouldn't be allowed to hunt mushrooms like that and cost the taxpayers money for the rescue effort.

  16. We went to Orizaba a few years ago. We did not rent a car. The bus system down there is fantastic. We went from Mexico City all the way to Tlachichuca in a little less than a day and had quite the experience doing it. We stayed with Senor Limon in Tlachichuca. We ate with the family while we were there. He has a smaller operation than Sr. Reyes, but Sr. Limon is a person you won't soon forget. Chatting with him was one of the highlights of the trip.

    Hey Techies?

When you export the video you can select varying quality and bitrates. I talso renders and burns straight to DVD. You should be able to keep all of the quality.

    good question

This is exactly my point. As a population, we overlook the wrongs of a person, a government, or a group of people as it suits us. All of this at the behest of the government's idea of who is, or isn't an enemy at the time. Does the government have it's reasons? Yes. That doesn't mean that we, as citizens shouldn't question the motives. FYI - you didn't provide any substance to the argument. Your statements have been diversions from the point and questioning my motives, not discussing the issue. You are very good at arguing, but you are not good at discussing and furthering a conversation.

    good question

Yes, I really am that confused. Not that you've really listened to what I had to say before. I was pointing out that his views are not that uncommon here in the US, or amongst other world leaders. They just keep their mouths shut. You seem to think that having these ideas is ok so long as you don't talk about them in public. Let's be honest. You don't really care. No matter what I put below this you will rationalize away and make it irrelevant to your argument. Cough... Iraq... cough... I'm sure that Saddam didn't have all those ideas of murder and torture when we helped him gain power in 1979. Bin Laden and others associated with Al Queda recieved training and weapons to help in their fight against Russia. A ton of money comes from Saudi Arabia to support various terrorist organizations. Are they not allies? I know, OFFICIALLY the Saudi government has nothing to do with this, so it is ok. Never mind tha tthey could stop this money through controversial actions like freezing bank accounts of citizens and so forth... I guess we only have to worry about the world enemies that stand up and give us a public "F*ck you" while we play house with others who are more like our official enemies than we would like to admit. I'm not going to convince you of anything. That's ok. But I'm sure that the US government is always doing the right thing, so I'm just going to shut up and take my place in line like a patriotic citizen.

    good question

I would rather know who my enemy is and greet him face to face than to have my "ally" stab me in the back. How many regimes has the US put into power only to have them turn on us? I'm not idealistic. I am many things, but idealistic is not among them. I admire a man who isn't afraid to stand up to the world's super power. Yes, he oppresses his people, he doesn't believe that the Holocaust occurred and that 9/11 was a hoax. That isn't any different than thousands of people across the US, or any of a number of governments with which we are are friendly. The only difference is that Ahmadinejad is honest about it. Why single him out? We wouldn't even be having this discussion if he wasn't honest because our administration and the media would have portrayed Ahmadinejad as a valuable ally in the Middle East. No one would have questioned Columbia for inviting him and he would have laid a wreath at Ground Zero. It's not about reality it's about PR and how the people are manipulated.
