  6. Trip: - Death Picnic Date: 12/22/2011 Trip Report: Always on the lookout for steep ice, I found 3 friends ( Tom S., Daniel J, and Powderhound) who were looking for their first outing. After much taunting on this site, and oogleing over Jeff Streets photos from last year, we headed out for it. It proved to be an exhilarating climb, well worth the drive and 1 hr approach. Bring on the season! More on my site Gear Notes: Screws, some shorter ones too Approach Notes: Upper right Baker ski area parking lot. Up valley to the west to Herman /Table saddle. Go across super steep slope around Table and go farther that the first ice you see.
  7. Your not in Bozeman Craig.
  8. I will do a blog report this evening.
  9. Didnt see Picnic from our Banquet view .Posted Pan Dome mobile pics on Fbook.
  10. We saw Death Banquet and thought it was Death Picnic. Fail I re-looked at the photo to determine this. We did not see Picnic and it is probably in? Embarassing
  11. Yep. My topo is flawed, thanks.
  12. I think you guys did the NW Face possibly? At any rate great effort! There is an overhanging finish at the top, and to the right, How did that look? Touching down?
  13. Nice, bet your glad you dont have to do that again.
  14. Trip: Hyalite icefest climbs - Date: 12/16/2011 Trip Report: Got in some great routes and enjoyed numerous shows from Henry Barber, Will Gadd, Bruce Hendricks, and Jeff Lowe among others. The shows and raffles were spectacular. Think about going to next years. Most ice cowboys dont go for crowds, but the routes we went to had none. (Both years). Washington folks represented, having half of the license plates. Ran into many of them too: Eddie, Max, Trevor, Sam , Anita. As for the climbing, hyalite has some of the most reliable and challenging ones around! We did over a dozen pitches on routes Like Cleopatras Needle and Mummy 3 and 4. Mummy 4 was incredible. 3 cams from 3/4' to 3" did the trick getting off the ground. From there the ice was very steep , yet offered rest in the middle. I took advantage of them and got scared and pumped at the finish too. Other feats: Craig free-soloed Bingo world, did Big Sleep in thin conditions. Good Times. More on my site.
  15. Strange fixy for sure! Looking forward to another lap myself on that one. Thanks for the report.
  16. I soloed it a couple of winters back. There is a Snow Troopers video of it in the archives, Very fun route, probably been done many times I am sure over several decades. Poor style to leave slings around trees at routes that dont get much traffic,in this case, it should have rings. Quality, reliable and fun route.
