layton Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 and buy some 1/4" bolts and bits and hangers. anyone know where to get 1/4 inchers? Quote
olyclimber Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 i have a rocpec you can borrow. you'll need to supply the bits though. Quote
bwrts Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 1/4 bolts/bits = same place you buy 3/8 hangars...good ones at MEC/vancouver, BC... I would think Nelsen carries them at his shop. Quote
jordop Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Last time I checked MEc doesn't carry 1/4" stuff anymore. I bought out the last of their Pika 1/4" hangers . . . I'd lend you my drill but I'm craving placing the first bolt in the entire range where I'm going next week Quote
Mos_Chillin Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Tacoma Screw in either Seatlle or, duh, Tacoma prolly has the bolts. check with FF/ REI for the hangers, otherwise buy 'em on-line through BD with expedited freight... Â ...heeeyyyy, what are you up to? Quote
jordop Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I see that MEC now has 1/4" bolts and bits back on their webpage, but no hangers apparently Quote
G-spotter Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Bolts = aid = murder of impossible  puss puss Quote
ivan Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Bolts = aid = murder of impossible so long as the impossible's dead n' all, can i be the first one to stick my sweetness into it's still half-warm corpse? Quote
BillA Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Howdy Mike, I think bolting is pretty sweet and if I were in Portland I'd let you borrow my hand drill in a second. After all, you are very sexy. And I'm drunk. Quote
layton Posted August 6, 2006 Author Posted August 6, 2006 thanks bill, bolting while wasted is the new cool thing we're all doign these days Quote
Mos_Chillin Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 **hic** Â Is that hole deep enough for ya, Ivan? Â Or is your bit getting dull? Quote
Off_White Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I got ya covered buddy.    I've got an ice screw if you need one too  Quote
Drederek Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I got ya covered buddy.  Please tell me I probably never clipped that bolt, Off. And I especially don't wanna know if it was an anchor! Quote
powderhound Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Why use 1/4 bolts, those are scary, the reason most people don't even carry them anymore. Quote
slaphappy Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Tacoma Screw in either Seatlle or, duh, Tacoma prolly has the bolts. check with FF/ REI for the hangers, otherwise buy 'em on-line through BD with expedited freight... ...heeeyyyy, what are you up to?  Tacoma Screw does not carry button heads of any size. Quote
powderhound Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 billcoe may have what you are looking for Quote
billcoe Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Sorry dude, It's true I'm old: but I'm all about 3/8" now. Â No bolts, no 1/4" hand drill - BUT, I think I might still have some old 1/4 hangers at the bottom of my aid shitpile I could scrounge up if you need them. Quote
iain Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I've got an ice screw if you need one too  I hope you have the awesome Chouinard ratchet wrench to place this. Quote
ivan Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Why use 1/4 bolts, those are scary, the reason most people don't even carry them anymore. i assume b/c hand-drilling a 3/8 bolt takes more time and energy - niether of which are desired when you're in the alpine and/or you're the size of a small elf Quote
DirtyHarry Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Why use 1/4 bolts, those are scary, the reason most people don't even carry them anymore. Â you are retarded. Quote
powderhound Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Why use 1/4 bolts, those are scary, the reason most people don't even carry them anymore. Â you are retarded. Â I kinda take offense to refering to me as retarded. By asking a question that I do not know the answer to, I am leaving myself open to learning something new that I did not know about. I always say it is better to ask a so called "retarded question" than be an ignorant climber who thinks he knows everything. I was under the assumption that no one really used 1/4 ers any more and I was curious as to his use of them. However thank you for your rhetoric. Quote
bwrts Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 powerhound... IN the alpine world where less is better... the use of 1/4" expansion bolts is due to the less amount of effort (energy) needed to drill the hole. using modern 1/4" expansion bolts is way better than the old skool button heads or expansion bolts...likewise the hangers are better....smc's and leepers (especially) should be clipped with a bit a skepatism. I know I always shutter when clipping the old 1/4" bolts so widespread in the alpine world but shit damn; its better than nothing... Quote
Mos_Chillin Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 (edited) The rock is TOO FUCKING HARD to justify the time 3/8" bolts take. We're not rap-bolting here (not that there's anything wrong with that ). Â Edited August 8, 2006 by Mos_Chillin Quote
Blake Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Nice to see you back with modesty intact Erik! I'd say just forget the bolting endeavor and hang out in the village enjoying the cheap ice cream and bowling. Quote
