barkernews Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Anyone making the pilgrammage to the 10 year anniversary of the Ouray Ice Fest? Should be sweet... Quote
texplorer Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 What with heel spurs and all? Ice climbing is like slogging now. Quote
iain Posted November 5, 2004 Posted November 5, 2004 Going ice climbing at a place/time where there is guaranteed to be a ton of people? Sweet! Quote
layton Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Going ice climbing at a place/time where there is guaranteed to be a ton of people? Sweet! Â No shit, i've never understood ice fests. Everyone go at once, I'll be there the week before. Be sure to lick the balls of all the gear reps and buy into the commercialism of the sport. Quote
barkernews Posted November 6, 2004 Author Posted November 6, 2004 yeah yeah. But those are some BAD ASS climbers... And the parties rock. Quote
Knuckles Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Fuck that ice fest and the cocky "Radans"( ) that go with it.... been there, done that. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 the week before is also busy. just get up early and you'll be able to get on what you want, though. people were pretty friendly last year, sharing ropes here and there. (the guided groups tend to hog areas of lines, though.) ice fests can be fun because you get to climb next to the best of the best and see old friends and make new ones and ... Quote
Dru Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Ice fests are about drinking beer not climbing ice Quote
cj001f Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 Be sure to lick the balls of all the gear reps and buy into the commercialism of the sport. But what about the revolution in Ice Screws? The only thing dumber than an Ice Fest is a mid-Winter BC ski fest. Â And Snoboy, Dru's right. Quote
Dru Posted November 6, 2004 Posted November 6, 2004 I think sno was more in the "nope not going" category actually. I was just making joke at him Quote
tomtom Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 I'm signed up for two clinics on Friday of the 'fest. Â Steep Ice with Jim Donini & Mixed with Sean Isaac. Â Should be interesting. Skipping the rest to go skiing at Telluride. Quote
ChocChick Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Not for the ice fest. Done it too many years and it's not worth it. It gets too crowded to climb. I am going to Ouray in mid February when the crowds thin out and there is no waiting in line for my favorites!!!!! Quote
neswstar Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 check out Ouray the week of Chicks with Picks - they put on an awsome Friday night auction ( w/beer). Quote
specialed Posted November 12, 2004 Posted November 12, 2004 I'd rather figure it out myself than stand around with a bunch of shoeller clad gapers listening to some irreverant old man spraying about the time he puked his remaining live brain cells out of nose on the summit of Mt. Dickey. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 i wouldn't call sean isaac an irreverant old man, and i've heard nothing but good reviews from my friends who've done clinics there. you know ... there's always something new to be learned ... Quote
cj001f Posted November 13, 2004 Posted November 13, 2004 I don't think Sean Isaacs was the old man being mentioned Quote
layton Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 (edited) tell sean i told him to stop chowing on the moosecock with his floppy canadian head if you're going Edited December 2, 2004 by michael_layton Quote
Figger_Eight Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Nope. I'll be there mid-February as well though. Quote
