for 10 extra points what real life person was Roseanna Roseannadanna clearly based on?  answer at 3:00...  while Roseanne Roseannadanna achieved national fame on SNL few outside the NYC area have ever heard of the local newsanchor named Roseanne Scarmadello (sp?) from chanel 7 (ABC) "eyewitness news" covering the local scene for the New York city area back in the 1970's (also when the SNL skit aired). Sadly, only new yorkers know that the comedy charicature version was only a slight exageration of the real thing.  Sadder still was Scarmadello's co-host, young Geraldo Rivera, who went on to bring his schlock journalism to national television in the years that followed. Geraldo only slightly redeemed himself by playing a charicature of yellow-journalistic self in the film version of "bonfire of the vanities".  And then there was the drunk weatherman named Bill Bixley or something who was always getting booted off the air for his off-color sexual comments, only to be brought back by popular demand (kinda like trask i guess). eventually, after a sensationalistic story about a 12 y/o girl getting raped, he came on with the weather and suggested to the teenage girls watching that if they ever get raped to just "lie back and enjoy it". I guess ABC felt they needed to can him for good after that.  Quote
Scott_J Posted September 28, 2003 Posted September 28, 2003 In my third year of teaching(6th grade) I was completing a math lesson and about to have then kids go the board to do examples b/4 assigning the work. As I scanned the class to see who’s face looked confused or who was not paying attention I noticed that John (real name) was digging for gold where upon he pulls his finger out of this nostril, examines the offending blockage and then slams it home into his mouth. I nearly hurled right on the spot. I could feel my stomach clench, the color drained from my face and I break into a cold. I had all I could do to tell the class that we were skipping the board work today but I would cruise around the room to help those that needed it. Before cruising I had to sit and gain my composure so I could help the kids without gagging. Needless to say I avoided John. Quote

billcoe Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 Now determined to be a healthy thing to do.  "Doctor Backs Picking Your Nose And Eating It  Picking your nose and eating it is one of the best ways to stay healthy, according to a top Austrian doctor.  Innsbruck-based lung specialist Prof Dr Friedrich Bischinger said people who pick their noses with their fingers were healthy, happier and probably better in tune with their bodies.  He says society should adopt a new approach to nose-picking and encourage children to take it up.  Dr Bischinger said: "With the finger you can get to places you just can't reach with a handkerchief, keeping your nose far cleaner.  "And eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strengthening the body's immune system.  "Medically it makes great sense and is a perfectly natural thing to do. In terms of the immune system the nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria are collected, and when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine.  "Modern medicine is constantly trying to do the same thing through far more complicated methods, people who pick their nose and eat it get a natural boost to their immune system for free. "  He pointed out that children happily pick their noses, yet by the time they have become adults they have stopped under pressure from a society that has branded it disgusting and anti social.  He said: "I would recommend a new approach where children are encouraged to pick their nose. It is a completely natural response and medically a good idea as well."  And he pointed out that if anyone was really worried about what their neighbour was thinking, they could still enjoy picking their nose in private if they still wanted to get the benefits it offered."
