JoshK Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Gonna take the girlfriend out for an overnight this weekend. weather looks pretty lame but not real stormy or anytihng. requirements are that it must be very scenic and needs to be a challenging, but not ass kicking 2 day trip. It would be a bonus to be able to climb something. She's not technical, but anything I could solo up and give her a rope if nescessary would be fine. I've got several ideas, now lemme here y'all's. klenke Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Take her on some stretch of the PCT near Rainy Pass. Then rock climb something interesting you might pass. Figure out some loop trip if you can that can be done in two days. Quote
lunger Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Black Peak (N. Cascades) has a few options from scramble to moderate rock, and the several lakes are scenic and have good campsites. Â Chiwawa E. of the crest--a long-ish day, but would be a nice overnighter. some scrambling. Â Mt. Daniels w/ camp at pretty Circle Lake. no steep rock. Ingall's also a good sugg. Quote
catbirdseat Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Dream on Alex. I've got a good one. Go do Slide Mountain near Rainier. It is an easy scramble with great views. Take Hwy 410 to just before the park entrance and just after Camp Shepard. Hike the Buck Creek Trail to the drainage and scramble up to the tarn where you can camp. You can scramble Slide Mountain the second day and go out. Quote
Bronco Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 I better post this before mattp does - Sahalee peak. Beautiful scenery, eeeeeasy climbing and a nice high camp if you don't want to hustle. Heck, anything in the Cascade pass area is awesome. Quote

I agree with everything else thats posted, too, they are all good suggestions. Well, except yours ! Quote
Distel32 Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 spectacle lake!? Only 11miles in to the lake, very nice scenery, and some peaks around the lake to scramble up. might be crowded, but it's close and a fun little trip. Quote
JoshK Posted June 20, 2003 Author Posted June 20, 2003 great suggestions, everybody. a few are the ones I was thinking of too. I agree with Alex, prusik WR would make an awesome GF climb. I think that or ingalls will be the backup if the weather turns out worse than expected. I was thinking chiwawa as well, as I love that area and expect it wouldn't be too crowded this early in the year. anybody know if the spider meadow trailhead is accessible yet? I would assume it was. pms Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 anything off the Stafford Cr. Road in the Teannaway. You could make a summit bivy. snow on the north slopes. Â Â Quote
JoshK Posted June 20, 2003 Author Posted June 20, 2003 yeah, the teanaway area is great. i've explored around navaho, earl, etc. and it's beautiful fairly gental country. very neat contrast to the rugged stuarts just across the ingalls valley. Quote
icegirl Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Mazama. Sunshine, rock climbing, a river to play in. It's great to use it as a back up for something "alpine" in the N. cascades. Â Ingalls is not really a 2 day trip even going slow, unless you make a point to camp when you get in. Quote
marylou Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Spectacle's a great suggestion. It's 9 miles via Pete, and I'm going to say 7 via Mineral Ck and Park Lakes. Â From there you can head up any number of peaks and/or cruise up to Glacier and or Chikamin Lakes. Nice country, and if there's a speck of snow I don't think the crowds will be insane. A lot of hikers are a-skeert of snow! Quote
Fairweather Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Spend the night in the lookout on top of Three Fingers. Quote
j_b Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 cutthroat pass is worth considering. short hike (~4miles), moderate elev. gain (2000'), great camping just below and east of the pass on rock ledges overlooking the lake. decent scrambling and a few short climbs within easy reach. one could get back to 20 via the pct for a loop. leejams Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 Anywhere in the olympics are a good choice, varied terrain etc... Plus when they see bears and usually you will they tend to latch on to ya Quote

gapertimmy Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 a nudder vote for the olympics, hike up to a high pass like marmot, camp out and plenty of easy peaks to scramble up, views are amazing. Quote
