cracked Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 IT'S GETTING COLDER!!!! At No-Snoqualmie pass, lows near 25, highs near freezing! Maybe we'll get some winter after all!!! Quote
carolyn Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 (edited) lows of 25?!?!?!?!?! You can do better than that, cant you?!?!?!?! Last week...lows (w/windchill) in the -40's!!!!! THATS WINTER!!!!!!!!! (although we COULD use some snow) Edited February 2, 2003 by carolyn Quote
cracked Posted February 2, 2003 Author Posted February 2, 2003 Windchill doesn't count, because who ever heard of ice forming because wind cooled water? Besides, I am over here in the tropical PNW, where 25 is COLD, especially this year. Enjoy your ice, it gives you a reason to be smug. Quote
JoshK Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 Well, dont envy minnesota too much. REmember, for ice to form it needs someplace higher to fall from...like a mountain...ever heard of those? Quote
carolyn Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 Well, dont envy minnesota too much. REmember, for ice to form it needs someplace higher to fall from...like a mountain...ever heard of those? I dunno, there seems to be plenty of ice on the sidewalk outside my house. And no mountains=no avey danger! How lucky is that? Seriously though, we are pretty warm in temps right now. I climbed butter yesterday. I still wouldnt mind some of your snow, either. Quote
fleblebleb Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 I wouldn't wish our snow upon anyone. I thought it was bad when I went out two weeks ago but last weekend it was worse and this weekend really topped off, or bottomed out I should say. What misery. I wonder what it's like up higher... Anybody got any good ideas for places where the pineapple express brings good climbing conditions? Within ca. 3 hours from Seattle? Quote
Jens Posted February 2, 2003 Posted February 2, 2003 Anybody got any good ideas for places where the pineapple express brings good climbing conditions? Within ca. 3 hours from Seattle? I'll bet it's been warm enough that if you found rock that faced south like at Peshastin or dare I say- vantage you could comfortable rock climb right now. It would be nice if winter would go out with little bit of a bang. I recently got the worst base shot on my alpine skis. Anybody else destroy their skis? Quote
Figger_Eight Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Yeah...I took a nice core shot about the size of a bottle cap a couple of weeks ago. Quote
Scott_J Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Winter, awwwwwwwww I wish. As soon as I can afford it I am moving to a place where I can shovel snow and not have neighbors real close. I am not rude to them but I don't like them so fucking close to my house. Quote
carolyn Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Well whoever wished snow this way, THANK YOU! Should see a foot or so overnight...and then some tomorrow! : Quote
Gordonb Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 We are staying at my dad's vacation house in Sunriver for the kids winter break. It looks like we will be spending more time at Smith than at Bachelor this year. Quote
cracked Posted February 3, 2003 Author Posted February 3, 2003 It's not always a bad thing. There are never any climbers out there (at least compared to spring and fall and summer), shoes stick well, and the weather can be spectacular. Enjoy! Quote
Dru Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 and not have neighbors real close. I am not rude to them but I don't like them so fucking close to my house. or "not like them fucking so close to my house" Quote

Minimal litter, minimal gapers and temps in th 60's at Sunshine Wall. Addedbonus: we were one of 4 parties camped in the ghetto- an all time low. Quote
erik Posted February 3, 2003 Posted February 3, 2003 Vantage sure was nice this weekend. an all time personal low Quote

carolyn Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Its pretty f'in cold here today! Cars not starting SLiding thru stop signs Crunchy snow mmmmmmm.....winter!!!! Might be time to give up my budweiser and take on some warm guiness! Quote
Skisports Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Cold can only go so far if you don't have any mountains to climb go head and climb your land fill ski resorts if you it gives you a sension of fulfilment Quote
E-rock Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 Poor Carolyn getting picked on, althought I suppose you do ask for it. Oddly I could go for a dose of flatland winter right now over what we're having, just to walk around in the cold, with everything white, and feel the sensation of my nose-hairs freezing would be really good. Quote
carolyn Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 ya, I did ask for it. But really, that last post was my (maybe poor) attempt at sarcasm. It really is FUCKIN cold!! (we need a freezin my ass off icon for this minnesotan poster!) However, In some sick way I do really like the cold...even if my nose hair's freeze The reality of it is...when its this cold, there is plenty of ice to climb, but it is brittle, brittle, brittle. I envy your 25 degrees. That must be great to climb in! Quote

That must be great to climb in! Yep it is less brittle and *way* easier to climb in. I'd rather have some real ice and brittle conditions. I am able to adapt better. Quote
