  1. May Valley and Maple Valley have some good rides, and there is a backroad section in Maple Valley that kicks ass if you have some people to amp it up with. I like riding out to Carnation and Snoqualmie from Redmond, good hill work, not many cars, very peaceful at times. The Nestle Horse area is incredible.

And you wonder why? Read what you wrote below. Completely rediculous. Why the hell should it? That's like saying "Dude those new La Sportiva Ice boots suck because they don't work with my Salomon downhill bindings." Yeah no shit. Can a windows machine plug directly into a network, discover all computers windows and mac, and be able to connect to them without changing ANY settings. The answer is a certifiable no. Regardless HARDLY any people have the need for this capability, connecting to AD that is. BTW when is windows going to install firewall software. And oh yeah Loren, Mac require a patch every couple months as opposed to twice a day. I use Firefox and I can read any website correctly that isn't using that .net garbage.

have you actually ever compared a powerbook to a PC equiv or do you just assume they are the best? Yes, their style is nice but they are seriously fucking overpriced. It isn't even like the iPod where their design is nice and the wheel thing is cool. You just get to pay more for the little apple logo. They also use suck ass HDs, which is the limiting factor in notebooks these days. Lots of the PC manufactures are now offering 5400 and 7200 rpm drives in notebooks now as options, thank god. BTW, for what it's worth, if you are intersted in style, check out the new Sony S series. Widescreen 13" WXGA super-brite screens and great components. From your requirements it looks like you are looking for something cheaper and more utilitarian tho... Nols posted a pic of the centrino stuff.that is the key. well, centrino is basically just marketing for built in wireless + pentium M, but the Pentium M is far and away the best mobile processor on the market today. Their battery life can't be beat. On a random note...the super-brite screens (like in the sony I mention above) are fucking amazing. They are nite and day better than the standard laptop screens. Let's dispel a few rumors here. First Apple users aren't any more stupid than PC users. Loren you do tech support and you know this man. PC users are just as dumb. And it doesn't help that PCs have literally thousands of things that can go wrong with them. Why doesn't my video card work? Why is there no sound? Why isn't my internet work? A common complain from a PC user is that Macs are confusing, and this is based off a their impression in 1995 running OS 8. Yes going from a MSDOS environment to a graphical environment, with this wierd mouse thing is strange. OS X is by far the coolest operating system I've ever used, and I've used a lot. It doesn't crash, it has great innovative features, and it's fun to use. Seriously fucking overpriced. Yes they are. And there is a reason, because THEY SERIOUSLY FUCKING WORK! You can either buy a cheap laptop running windows and have it break and lose your hair and be weeks without it while it's being repaired, or dealing with missing DLLs. Or you can get a Powerbook and never have to deal with any of these problems. If time is important to you like it is me, I'd rather pay for something that works than something that I will spend hours trying to get to work. I gave up a fast, dual monitor, w2k system at work to use my Powerbook instead. I can run all the same apps I need, my networking to our w2k works better than w2k machines, and I don't have to worry about intrusion because my employeer won't put in a firewall. In my group, every w2k machine has been hacked.

Does 98 support USB? Shit should just plug and play, right? Maybe you should get a mac. CD burners are notorious for corrupting systems on windowz.

  10. Several of the moderators, including mattp and TTT, have gone through and indexed a lot of the reports. If you there are TRs that need to be indexed still you could send the moderator for that forum a PM or reply to the thread asking for it to be indexed. We are just starting to migrate to the version of the message board. Most of the suggestions are definately doable, just a matter of finding time to do it.
  11. Jessica Simpson wants to be on the next cc.com GGC (Girlz Gone Cragin) video. She likes cragin better than snowshoeing because she doesn't have to put on those gross dried beaver tails.

  16. Icicle & Trinity Fire Daily Update Monday, July 26, 2004, 9:00 A.M. Icicle Fire: The fire actively burned within containment lines yesterday. Helicopters were used to cool larger hot spots as firefighters put out small fires fanned by windy, dry conditions. Today, crews will continue to patrol the fire area, putting out hot spots as cooler temperatures moderate fire behavior. There are currently seven helicopters, three fire engines, and 411 personnel assigned to the fire. Unauthorized aircraft, jeopardizing the safety of the firefighters, again violated the closed air space around the fire. A temporary flight restriction, which closes the airspace to non-fire, related aircraft to 10,000 feet for five miles around the fire remains in effect. Two firefighters from the Baker River Interagency Hotshot crew were injured yesterday when they were looking for smoldering fire in a steep, rocky area. Part of a large boulder broke off, knocking the two firefighters down the mountainside. Both were air-lifted from the scene. Brian Takeuchi was treated and released at a local medical facility while Jeremy Dempsey was transferred by air ambulance to Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle with a fractured pelvis. Today, in conjunction with the Chelan County Commissioners, the Evacuation Order for the Upper Icicle Creek drainage will be lifted. The Wenatchee National Forest will also be opening part of the area that was closed on July 16th due to the Icicle Creek Fire. All Forest Service campgrounds along Icicle Creek will be opened as well as several popular trail routes and climbing areas in the drainage. However, some areas south of Icicle Creek will remain closed in order to provide for public safety while firefighting efforts continue. 20. Icicle Fire Daily Update Thursday, July 22, 2004, 9:00 A.M. The Northern Rockies Incident Management Team (Bennett) continues to direct all fire fighting resources from the fire camp at the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery. Cooperators on the fire include the Washington Department of Natural Resources, the Commissioners, Sheriff’s Department and Fire Protection District of Chelan County. The wetting effects of Monday’s rain is expected to be gone by today. Firefighter tactics have changed to building direct line adjacent to the fire’s edge. The decision was spurred by the arrival of highly experienced hand crews and the slower fire activity. The fire continued to stay within the desired perimeter. The fire remains at approximately 778 acres and is 55 percent contained. Expected containment is July 25th dependent upon favorable weather conditions. There are 473 fire personnel assigned to the fire. Other resources include eight helicopters, six engines, and two dozers. The Snow Creek Trailhead remains open but the Icicle Creek Road is closed just beyond the trailhead. All trails and spur roads intersecting the Icicle Creek Road above the roadblock are closed. Rock climbing opportunities are available at Snow Creek Wall and down valley of the road closure. The seven Forest Service campgrounds along Icicle Creek Road remain closed, however Icicle RV Resort is open. The Level 3 Evacuation Notice and area closure remains in effect. An evaluation of this evacuation order is being conducted daily. A temporary flight restriction to 10,000 feet above sea level remains in effect for a five-mile radius around the fire. On the Leavenworth Ranger District, campfires are restricted to established fire rings in developed campgrounds only. Outside of these developed campgrounds, all other fires and use of charcoal briquettes are prohibited. The Lake Wenatchee area has no current fire restrictions. Please continue to help prevent wild land fires.
  21. Dane, I actually have quite a bit of respect for all the people involved in that they have remained somewhat civil in what seems to be very heated topic. What I don't think is necessary is to liter a forum who's main purpose is trip reports with countless threads that easily could have remained in one thread. Additionally, you took it upon yourself to call out one person in particular in the thread that was moved. It appears that you have taken it upon yourself to delete people's opinions on your board so they are posting them here now. This is nothing person, nothing to do with your opinion on the subject, I'm just telling you that I don't want that forum litered with stuff that isn't trip report beta related.
