I agree Darin with the nerve entrapment hypothesis. I was about to suggest it when I opened the thread and read your last comment in whole. I had a neck injury years ago that presented in a very similar way (numbness and tingling in the pinky). Best of luck Darin and heal quick!

Bear sausage is good........ Because it is mainly pork fat.

I was referring to Ivan. the problem with most philosophers is they're dead steve jobs was a man like anybody else, his death reaffirms that basic fact - he doesn't need to be hero-worshipped - he made more contributions to the modern world than most for certain, and his life will be remembered long after my own has gone, and i can be enlightened enough not to be jealous about that wonder how long the battery in his iTomb will last? Much longer if he puts it in airplane mode!

meh. sure, he'll be a thomas edison type figure for the future to revere, but i'm not certain that his contributions haven't had some drawbacks - the whole iLife, propped up by endless iGadgets, leads to a lotta self-obsessed motherfuckers i'll forgive him for the starry night ap on those goddamn phones though - that thing is fuckign cool! The mofo's were already self obsessed, now we just have facebook so we can be self obsessed voyeur's looking through the living room windows of other self obsessed mofo's, and do it without having to actually you know, deal with other people. Wasn't is Sartre who said the hell is other people anyway? Sartres' Quote literally translated from French is "Hell is others" not just other people all "others".

I have a hard time believing any municipality would issue a building permit without plans stamped by a P.E./S.E. and building anything without a permit sets one up for huge liability not to mention if an inspector sees it they will likely make you dismantle the structure. (Inspectors can be a bit vindictive this way). As a third generation builder I've seen it happen. I recall one family who built a waterfront home on Bainbridge (or was it Vashon) Island on a steep slope. The homeowner built a concrete retaining wall without engineering or permits. An inspector 'red tagged' the home citing the retaining wall was improperly engineered and built. The homeowner went through political channels to reverse the inspector's decision and the red tag was removed. Next heavy rain event the retaining wall catastrophically failed and the hillside slumped, knocking the house off the foundation and into the water, burying it in the process. The entire family died. Wow! Holy Shit! I guess engineers do learn something in school after all.

"I like the Scarpa Techno for multipitch trad as it is pretty good at edging, thin jamming, and smearing." I am with Rad on this one. A great shoe IMHO. Of course I just came into the 21st century from a pair of super stretched La Sportiva cliffs.

Saw that flash twice two weeks ago from further up the valley. It was on the same trajectory both times, about an hour apart, and just dissapeared in a flash toward the NE. I thought for sure it was the drones! Yikes! -
Sorry to hear that Shapp. My sincere condolences.

Matt you are spot on. Buy the pass or don't and risk the ticket, but for Pete sake if your panties are that bunched up folks, then use you time to write someone who can actually do something rather than spend your time whining on here. Remember Johnny it is like the first grade around here, no one likes a whiner.!

So, I am wondering why, if an itinerary is left with a responsible party and said party is clearly instructed to NOT call in for help until a set time, would anyone do the volunteer registering? I personally leave my plans with my wife and my mom with clear instructions about when and if to call out for help. I do not register (even on hikes at the trailhead). I have been late and I have been very late, with no incident. My idea of climbing and adventure is one of self reliance and a trust that between you and your partner/s no matter what happens: accident, forced bivy etc. that it is your parties responsibility and only your parties responsibiliy to get in, out and or initiate a rescue if need be, not to burden others unnecessarily. I am sure one can make a case against this ideal on many points but it just seems like the volunteer register thing is an easy way to cause unnecessary expense and trouble for people, who should be ultimately responsible for themselves and not chaporoned by the park service or mountain rescue or whomever. I mean we are all adults aren't we, who are putting ourselves in these situations on our own volition? Burly work Mito! Intense!

Tom your TR's are a blast to read and this one was no different. I can't wait to get on a computer where I can see the pics! I have always been fascinated by the Dakobed range and have spent much time daydreaming of going in there. Now you have inspired me to make it happen. Thanks! -
