I was wondering if you all knew of other places online that your average Washington climber may post lost and found info? I want to find that stupid shoe and would hate to have it found but just never see the lost & found ad b/c it's on a different website. Thanks!

Lightweight boot alternatives for alpine?
ClimbingPanther replied to jared_j's topic in The Gear Critic
Also have old Trango S, seems durable so far, not waterproof. Would love the new Gore Tex Trango S, and would not hesitate to pay full price b/c I love them so! -
yeah, but they don't give out very many

Not the best day-trip option b/c of driving distance, but certainly do-able in a day... Ingalls Lake from the Esmerelda Basin TH. You're guaranteed to see goats near Ingalls Pass, and you can get within 5 feet of them if you give them a little treat... (this means start peeing after you've spotted one and it will come lick it up as you're still going - just do it on a rock so they don't dig up the vegetation).

Are you referring to me? did you have to ask?

Reward! Lost Mythos on Cascadian at Stuart

BUmp' friendly weekend reminder -
I've never used anything remotely close to being as good as Coppertone Sport, SPF 48 or higher. Non-greasy as they come, really strong protection, lasts forever on me. I put this stuff on once at around 10am & that's it for the day.

[TR] Mount Stuart - West Ridge 8/4/2007
ClimbingPanther replied to ClimbingPanther's topic in Alpine Lakes
ok, done now _____________________________ This TR now complies with regulations, given the recent addition of reasonable stoke pictures and reporting on the availability of snow on route Edited by Moses! (1 second ago) -
I've always been peeved by tickets while passing, though I haven't had one yet. Does the law really say anything about a "need" to pass? I know the law DOES condone speeding to pass on a 2-lane road. I also know sometimes people speed up just when you pass them, so a cop might think you're passing unnecessarily but you're really passing a jerk who used to be going slow and just sped up. What to do?

As long as it's not super cold out, I wear a pair of ankle-high Nike dri-fit anti-blister socks next to my skin, and put a cool-max liner over the top. You get the benefit of the two-sock system without the overkill on warmth and size (both are very thin layers). It fills about the same space as a mid-weight wool sock. I have never gotten a blister with this combo, ever. I tried to find the Nike socks I own, but I think they're discontinued. Maybe this is similar??? I've got a mild case of it too, and it has been around for nearly two years. It tends to go unnoticed during periods of laziness but never fails to show up again when I get out on the off-trail type of terrain that tweaks your foot a little. Wish I could get rid of it as well.

I didn't see it, though I can't promise you we took the same exact route. Two or three other parties had already gone before us as well on Saturday. Check the Cle Elum and Wenatchee River ranger stations as well if you haven't already. Best of luck!

Trip: Mount Stuart - West Ridge Date: 8/4/2007 Trip Report: Pics to come later... Travis and I took off from the car at 7am Saturday to get as far as we could and bivy wherever we ended up at nightfall. Knowing the potential for epic-ing the west ridge and having never done the route before, we were mentally prepared for some suffering and a very long trip. However, we managed to come reasonably close to the 6 hour time recommended in the Beckey guide! We summitted at 4:30 and arrived back at Ingalls creek by 8:00. Remembering key details of the route and always choosing the path of least resistance led us all the way to the summit with no more than 20 feet of backtracking. Only belayed the last mini-pitch with the fixed piton below the summit. Hiked out over Long's Sunday morning and were eating Subway in Ellensburg by 10:45 am. Unfortunately, something had to go wrong or it wouldn't have been a true "First Time Up The West Ridge Adventure", so I decided to leave one of my partner's climbing shoes (which we didn't even use - boots only) in Cascadian on the descent... REWARD TO THE LUCKY SHOE-FINDER WHO BRINGS IT BACK HOME!!! SEE THREAD BELOW FOR DETAILS ON HOW TO GET RICH FAST!!! http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=27&Number=711212&Searchpage=2&Main=53302&Words=&topic=1&Search=true#Post711212 Snow still exists on route in one large patch by Long John Tower, and at several places between the top of Cascadian & the false summit. No trickles while we were there, but could be melted for water if you want it. some rocks where did we spot that ? I'm getting hungry ingalls see larger version: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/509/untitled-2.jpg Gear Notes: Cams 0.5-3 (3 not used) Nuts ??? 5-8 ??? Tri-Cams 0.5-2 Would go with less next time, probably cutting out the nuts first... that came out wrong Approach Notes: In Ingalls, Out Long's (Long's Pass trail intersects Ingalls Creek trail upstream of Cascadian's descent trail - not marked on USGS quads)

The West Ridge was too kind to us on Saturday and I had to find some way to ruin the day. On the way down Cascadian, I unloaded my pack to get food and set one of my partner's purple La Sportiva Mythos rock shoes behind me on a sitting rock, and didn't see it when I re-loaded. Reward: $30 Approx. Loc: between 6500 & 7500 ft. on a small rock, probably not very obvious if you are always facing downhill. Look back periodically at nice break spots for a good sitting rock with a purple decoration Send me a pic of it if/when you find it and tell me the size and we'll work out an arrangement for trading it out for cash. Thanks in advance!

Of course, silly. It's called "on someone else's computer."

Barring any major snafu's, I will be up there this weekend and can look for it. Can you give any details to help us out?
-
I just want to know where's the outrage over the carelessness of these people, wasting our taxpayer money by foolishly venturing out in to the untamed Gorge without a GLU?
-
http://www.kptv.com/news/13787553/detail.html The mighty and treacherous Columbia River Gorge swallowed up some hikers who were valiantly rescued by helicopter this morning.

I've had a 50/50 with no police involvement, and I believe it works like this... Your insurance has to pay 50% of the other person's damage, and the other person's insurance has to pay 50% of your damage. If the other person claims any damage, your insurance will therefore have to pay regardless of the damage on your car, resulting in a mark on your insurance record. If they don't claim anything, I don't know for sure what will happen to your insurance. Leaving your car unfixed may or may not help your case... depends if the total dollar amount of damages your company pays determines the amount your rates will increase, or if that's just based on the simple fact of having an accident at all. Since the driver didn't get a citation, he/she actually may walk away from this without any adverse effects at all. Oh, the injustice! for the record, I have state farm, and the other driver also had state farm, and I believe insurance follows the car, not the driver with them.

Best protien powder to stay lean but get strong?
ClimbingPanther replied to scottgg's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
you wouldn't expect the expensive-sports-drink industry to fund and release research results that showed their product was is equal to a cheaper alternative, now would you? if a company had a truly better product than milk, I'd expect them to fund a little research of their own and publish it to counter the milk study [maybe they have and I don't know about it???]. no industry-funded research ever gets released if it doesn't put their product in a good light. sports drink marketing is all about creating the perception of scientific formulation and superiority without any proof, kinda like penis enlargment or maybe I'm just cheap -

Nobody is immune to rockfall, solo or grouped, and crevasses are as always a big question mark as well. However, the route is quite well marked at this time of year. I echo the sentiment of attempting to find partners on this board before venturing out alone.
