Muller is near the west end of Lake Crescent. you can read about it on (I think) both www.dirtworld.com and www.mtbr.com; i've never done it, but I think it's roughly a 3000' climb ... not too technical, except for a couple places where you ride a real narrow ridge. and BTW, the cool/true term for riding them man-made obstacles is "freeriding". I suspect that Muller doesn't have any of that tho. I'll do some of that stuff sometimes, but nothing higher than like 2:1 height-to-width ratio. noway. yeah do you know about www.bbtc.org? watch the ride calendar ... I'll be posting/organizing this Mt. Muller ride. Or I'm not sure... might do Dungeness River instead. something up that ways, mid-June.

hey Squid, checkit.... http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/366789/an/0/page/8#366789 kayak stuff is still for sale. that pic is pretty cool, btw. I don't know where that is, but i have heard about people packing their kayaks a few miles up trail to run "The Grand Canyon of the Elwha", as it's called. FW, I might be into the Adams trip! hah. no but seriously, i AM gonna be biking Mt. Muller some time this spring, probably mid-June. you wanna go? and re. MTB-unicyclists... I have seen them. I can vouch that yes, they do indeed exist. I got passed once (yes, passed) on the Preston trail on Tiger Mtn once by one. un-fuckin-real. don't know how they do it.

some recent theories/studies have linked insomnia to AADD (adult attention deficit disorder). if you think that could be the case, might be good to go to the doc, get the AADD test, and get the meds if appropriate. I don't have the insomnia, but i do sometimes wonder if i have AADD... been sorta meaning to get the test done. there's probably even some free, simple test available online for it, to see if it's even worth going to the doc for it.... but I can't seem to focus enough to go search for it.

I've always liked the picture on page 25 of the Mounties' Climber's Guide to the Olympic Mountains. It shows what appear to be a coupla ladies standing next to the Blue Glacier. Caption just says "The Blue Glacier -- a long time ago." You can't see them that well, but from their silhouettes they look vaguely like flappers. Ahh .. the 1920s musta been fun, for wild wimmin and for men who thought the world needed more wild wimmin. Some of you climber ladies may think you're in such big demand, cuz there's so few of you, and so many single climber guys .... but just imagine if you'd been a climber back then!!

anyone ever find themselves yelling at their radio? I did yesterday. well not quite yelling, but close to it. was listening to NPR's coverage of the death when they said something to the effect of: "... and it's been an issue that millions upon millions of Americans have been keenly aware of ..." and I suddenly found myself saying... "Well that's because YOU, just like EVERY OTHER FUCKIN media outlet in the whole goddam country, can't stop talking about it! Jezus Christ people isn't there anything more important to talk about?!?! I'm so bored with this shit!!!!!! ... c'mon, NPR, you're better than this... " etc. then, they started talking about the teddy bear she was holding when she died, and I had to change the channel. even Ricker on KISW had more meaningful shit to talk about yesterday afternoon than NPR.

i love caribou and ravens and grizzlies just as much as the next lefty enviro guy. at the same time, I think NONE of them things are as important as lessening, however slightly, our dependence on Mideast oil and all the wars and other bullshit that comes along with it.... drill the fuck out of my own backyard for all i care. yeah baby!!! .... this thread was the first place i learned about the fact that much of ANWR oil would probly go to Asia, and that sucks. bigtime. but if even 5% of it goes to domestic supply, thereby lessening our ties to the Saudi Royal family.. i'm happy. and yeah i know, we gotta invest in renewables ... wind, solar, hydro cells, etc etc blah blah blah. its true, it's all true. but we also gotta bump up domestic oil production. both need to happen.

back in high school the jocks used to think that me and my longhaired friends were way cool. they liked us cuz, despite being kinda weird and different and all, we knew where to get the good, uh ... "music", as we sometimes called it back then. yeh... the jocks in my school were all right.

i've flown in Cessnas and other small planes a bunch of times, as a passenger. had one pilot who once allowed me to take the controls for a few moments & do a little steering for the hell of it.... it was one of THE most exhilarating experiences of my life. i would totally get a pilot license if i could scrape together the, what is it.. about 6 or 7 thousand bucks for the lessons? and apparently you can get a used Cessna for like 20K. i would much sooner do all this than, say, buy a swimming pool or a luxury car.

kinda reminds me of this one joke-email I got fairly recently ... i forget most of it but i think it was sort of an "instruction manual" on man ... written for women who might want to live with one. Can't find it right now... badly need to organize my email archives... but anyway, the best part was where it talked about toilet seat positions. it went something like: "Toilet seats. Some people need them up. Some people need them down. So if you don't find it in the position you need it in, change it accordingly. If you're a big girl or boy, you should know how to do so." Hilarious. Not to mention brilliant. Fortunately i haven't had to address this topic in recent history... my current GF doesn't have toilet seat issues... but one of these years this might come in handy.

yeh well,.. for those of us who only surf here (let alone post here) sporadically, these re-posts are a good thing. there's a lot of good threads we'd miss if it weren't for reposts.

awesome covers: Bob Dylan songs done by chick singers... about a week ago on KEXP, heard some like alt-rock-ish (?) white girl singer doing "Buckets of Rain" also, about ten minutes ago on KPLU, heard a young black (?) siren doing "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" wish i'd caught their names. lameass covers: Jane's Addiction doing the Grateful Dead's "Ripple".

yep. Ft Lewis actually has a fairly good sized chunk of lands that are open to rec use... biking, hiking, motos, ATV, etc... I think the official policy is that you're not supposed to be there but if they catch you they say like "just be careful & make sure to NOT go in the areas marked as 'restricted'". This was the first time i'd been on the trails there.. pretty cool... only saw a few other people there, all non-motorized. they also let plenty of subversives from Evergreen College and elsewhere come on their property, with like permit/contract, to study forest ecology, salmon habitat, etc.

Saturday: mountain biking at Fort Lewis .... sweet fun trails, some nice stands of tall trees... not too much mud, despite all the rain. then later, party at a good friend's house in Olympia. lotsa bros, keg o' beer, good BBQed grubbins.... and lots of group-comiseration about the lack of snow in the hills... Sunday: football
