  1. The place Jay's talking about is called the Brick. Also good in Roslyn is Village Pizza, and the Roslyn Cafe, the last one being a good b'fast spot.
  2. Try Ebay if you don't find any here. Make sure you know which kind your car takes. Thule towers won't work with Yakima bars, and anyway, Thule stuff is way more 'spensive. A good shop, that sometimes has used gear, is Ski Rack on 80th and Aurora. I think that's the name of it, and the folks who work there are great. Be sure to get locks for the towers so your investment doesn't get stolen.
  3. Ahh, the Vallleeeyyyy.....just hearing the name of that place makes me hungry! My other faves in E burg: Palace for b-fast Tav for their nachos D and M for da beenz Casa Fiesta (one in Cashmere as well) on Canyon Road for da Mexican. But for a fancy pants place, the Valley is soooo yummy.
  4. I got mine really wet a couple of weeks ago and the piezo would not work. I lit the stove with a lighter, and once the heat dried the stove out, the piezo worked fine again.
  5. I did lab testing, so it probably wouldn't interest you. I tested the Jetboil, Giga, Simmerlite, and Brasslite, if there's interest I'll dig up the results and post them, but really since it's lab testing, it's nothing you can't see on the REI Product Information Guide. Our field testing was all more seat-of-the-pants functionality, and regrettably we didn't do anything with snow melt tests. I had to do almost all of the stove testing myself, and can't always do it all of the testing I'd like to do. Backpackinglight did some semi-scientific field testing on stoves, I bet if you look at their site you can find it. They do a really nice job with their gear testing, far better than I, with my erratic and sometimes nonexistent pool of field testers can do.
  6. The big canisters work fine. The Jetboil is okay, but a Pocket Rocket or a Giga does it better for less of everything. I did a review with some lab testing in the WTA mag a couple of months back.
  7. Writing negative reviews doesn't actually make it so they won't send you samples anymore.
  8. Drew, that lady in the bathing suit is scaring me.
  9. The MEC Brand stuff can all be sent to the US. I've bought a lot of their stuff over the years, never a complaint. Good schtuff.
  10. Depends totally on available water. If it's plentiful, a liter and a filter is fine by me.
  11. Neeever gonna happen. Take a 2/3 majority of states to make a constitutional amendment, and too many small states benefit from the current setup. A more likely, and logical reform is for states to opt to use their electoral votes in proportion to the popular vote. In our case then, in WA, JK would get 6 or 7 and GWB would get 5 or 4, more than likely. Being a Democrat and living in a state that goes to the Democrat in presidential elections, I would prefer do do this alongside a bunch of other states. I'm okay with the concept of allocating our EC votes proportionately though.
  12. Heh, I just went the other direction and replaced my S40 with the 5 meg ELPH. Even going that little bit smaller and lighter is going to get me to take the camera more often. Let's hear about printers.
  13. JDJr: I've never heard of, or seen any information that would suggest sil won't hold up as well as PU. If you happen across it, please post anything you find. The denier of the fabric should have more to do with the durability than the coating, unless either PU or sil deteriorates from UV exposure more rapidly. It's an interesting question, though. Silnylon has been around long enough that if this was one of the issues with it, I really think the info would be out there by now. BTW I just did a little Googling and didn't get anything of note. Here's a bit about materials: the Betamid is PU, the MSR shelters are PU on one side and sil on the other, and the Beta Light is sil/sil.
  14. You may not care, but it's a violation of the Wilderness Act to use a power drill in a Wilderness. Some people may have a problem with that.
  15. I don't think I'd worry about durability with silnylon over PU nylon.
  16. Please consider not abusing the return policy. I have mixed feelings about many of REI's business practices, but that doesn't make it right, at least in my mind, to abuse their return policy.
  17. Or maybe it's because we don't care. I mean, it sucks to be that woman, and I hope justice is served if the complaint is legit, but some dude's philandering, well, what does that have to do with real politics? Let's talk about legitimate issues, or let's forget it. I don't have Cable TV, so I guess I don't even know which side this O'Reilly guy is on, not that it matters.
  18. slicker'n cat snot on a wet silk scarf
  19. dude, Rigoletto is Verdi, you'll be fine on the awake/asleep thing. They usually like you to wear long pants for these kinds of work partiy dealos BTW. I mean it will probably be on the cool side anyway, but typcally they want to see the long pants.
  20. There are a ton of great suggestions here. One of the best ways to lighten your load that I know of, is to weigh everything. When you see how much stuff weighs, it gets you thinking about whether or not you need it. Good luck.
  21. It's 12 hours to Stanley, Idaho. I went there last month when the weather went south right after Labor Day. The outdoors are higher elevation there (the bottom's about 6500') so if you go, expect cold and possible SNOW! I'd recommend it if you are looking for a change of scenery though. Awesome!!

In four debates, there was exactly one question about the environment. That's bullshit.
  23. Sartre was a smartre little fartre.
  24. I am voting for Gregoire based on her position on issues, not on her gender. Rossi's a rotten alternative anyway. He's a tool for business first and foremost.
  25. Arguing about tele versus AT is only slightly less stupid than arguing about whether it's better to put the toilet paper on the roll with the paper pointing up, or pointing down.
