  1. I say the Administration pulled off another major victory on the War on Rhetoric today with the hundreds of references to "Al Queda in Iraq". That ought to help reinforce one of the false ideas that a lot of Americans use to justify our ooccupation of Iraq. It was a smart Rovian move on the part of the deciders.
  2. Tacoma Screw has a swaging tool right there you can use in the store as well. Pliers don't really work. Copper swages are a million times easier to deal with than aluminum ones too. You shouldn't bother trying to cut aircraft cable with anything but a tool made to cut wire rope either. I forget what the tool is called, but that's what it's made for. Just bring your gaiters to Tacoma Screw, use their tools, and pay maybe a couple of bucks max for materials. Replacing the string with wire rope is a good idea, but use the right tools for a better quality fix, less headache, and less wasted materials. If you make nice swages, the end of the wire rope will end up just inside the swage (do two) so you don't have frayed wire rope to cut your hands or your gear.
  3. Summer is not over. I plan to reclaim those two weekends of rain in Augvember next month. September is such an awesome time to get out.
  4. I have one that I use in town instead of a nasty old Nalgene. Too heavy for the woods, but keeps water nice and cold around town.
  5. Hackneyed vulgarity is my favorite CC cliche.
  6. Having been a strong athlete in my younger years and then working stoopid long hours later on, I do believe there is not magic formula for what Mike's asking for. Being able to maintain baseline core strength and cardio to make a return to normalcy easier is a lot more reasonable goal.
  7. 2000 Xterra with the V6 and most of the options. Hands down, best car I ever owned except my '79 Scirocco (RIP) and the Scirocco would not go most of the cool places the Xterra can go. Then again, neither did the Subie. They are not light on gas, but my city driving's minimal and my car's usually got a bunch of people in it on mountain trips. If you're in that boat too, the Xterra's a great option.
  8. Unless you have X-ray eyes that can also see microscopic cracks in aluminium, this is poor advice. Aluminium fails pretty spectacularly when it fails, if you've ever seen a 'biner stress tested in a lab, you know what I'm talking about.
  9. Anyone who thinks Subies don't suck obviously hasn't woken up one day and realized their Subie is a complete money sinkhole that's gutless and completely unreliable. I thought my Subie was "great" until I got rid of it and bought a real car that hasn't required more than brake pads and oil changes. Starts up every time too. You Subie owners might as well start saving up for that cam timing belt/water pump combo replacement, again because it's probably right around the corner....after you replace the radiator....again. Sorry about the /drift, but I bet you're covered on nut advice by now.

    Worst bosses ever

The one that despite you and your team saving them thousands of dollars each year on a recurring annual nine-day event, pulling off time management miracles, and leaving their clients pleased as punch, still repeatedly bereate said team for not getting enough done. This with a very loyal team who continually dazzle the lead (me) with their incredible hard work, ingenuity, and sincere desire to be the best they can be in a very challenging enviromment. The thing that makes it a real sucker punch is that said boss is a very old friend that you used to share good times with, way back in the day when you were both peers. Next year I think I'd rather take the guys to Bali then do this guy any more favors. I honestly wish I could afford to do it, because the old friend is now a maniacal twit who needs to see what it would be like to do the event without us. OK, I'm done ranting. It's only nine days.
  11. the stupid one is the fool who can't read through the sarcasm w/o it being spelt out for them. I'm glad to see our (future) lawyers have such a finely tuned ability to read between the lines. maybe some emoticons will help. mmmmmm spelt. He who spelt it dealt it.
  12. Awww, that's so sweet, ya big galoot!
  13. Member #13655, you mean. Nice try...and Carl, you're a 'sucker' for not checking the profile . Or looking at his home page Something oddly familar about it....
  14. It's funny to see you conservative types defending this creep.
  15. What if we all took on the European way of getting work done? In Italy, people who work more than 40 hours/week are called IDIOTS! I think there is something deeply wrong with our culture - we embrace people who ignore health in their attempt to make another dime. I'm not calling anyone an idiot, just that I think we should all change. It totally sucks. If it's a temporary thing, like Mike's residency or the rather extreme hours I work sometimes, it's really a temporary problem. The ones I really worry about are people who let that be the normal state of their work lives.
  16. I got a Dri Clime vest for $24. Gooddeal.
  17. Huddled in tent blasted by sideways rain until ohnoonhundred today before finally braving the weather to escape. Mission was accomplished, but I can't say the funnometer was exactly pegging redline. I think I'm ready for ski season now since summer seems to be over a little early this year.
  18. Sorry I'll have to miss this one, it looks like a boodle of fun. If you guys get lonely, go up the Suiattle drainage and look for the drenched Trail Blazers with boxes of baby fishes on their backs. I'll be the one smiling. No fair trying to catch them before they get to be eating size.
  19. Unfortunately this is part of life. Once your residency is over you can make choices about whether your career and your exercise can co-exist, and how much time gets devoted to what thing.
  20. The guy's an animal-abusing scumbag. If that makes him a "PR issue" then so be it. Hopefully no NFL team will have him now.
  21. Sh! That's topp sekkrit.
  22. I went up to Alaska Lake in the ALW a couple of weeks ago, that's a nice one, and not too difficult. TR here: http://hikingwashingtononline.com/viewtopic.php?t=67 That Toketie/Sheild/Edward Mesa area is not easy to get to and is also part of the Enchantments permit system.
  23. I bet that felt pretty satisfying, even if it was "just a hike". Good job.
  24. The psoas is realy hard to stretch and tight psoas contribute to a lot of problems. I learned this from my sadistic Rolfer. They say orthotics can correct PF in about 75% of cases.
  25. Inciweb This is the fire status reporting resource I use.
