  1. No requirement. Obviously even though I hate climbing and hardly ever do it, they let me post here. I hate climbing less in the Icicle than I do with the freeway noise and gunshots from the firing range dealo, so I'm voting for Exit 38. I hate climbing at Vantage too, but for other reasons not related to hating 38 or climbing in general.
  2. There is a burn ban in effect, yesirree bob.
  3. What would change? Is it now under the mgmt of the FS or the NPS? The NPS is NOT underfunded by any means. Example: MORA has made a huge dent in their storm repoairs already, while MBSNF hasn't got any money for theirs to speak of. Even the PCT damage from '03 isn't fixed yet.
  4. Yeah, I just didn't know how toget the little "R" inside the circle. Thanks for the clarification.

    Car Camping :(

How about up on top of Red Top off of 97, north of Cle Elum? There are incredeible views, a semi primitive camping area (bring water, but they have picnic tables) and some easy ridge walking trails plus a lookout. She'll love it! EDIT: oops, you said Western Wa. Corral Pass down by Crystal Mountain is the west slope version of Red Top.
  6. It's a really great backpacking tent, but the pole design is not meant to be used in real high winds. I'd say if you plan to use it at or below treeline, then you're gonna love it--I love mine--but it's not a real climbing tent. BTW, they will be coming out with a superlight version next spring that knocks off several ounces.
  7. I think I can make this one.
  8. I saw it at the show too after Crackers showed me his. I have a feeling I should have bought one. It is a little bulky, but it only weighs 5 ounces, and if it performs as claimed, it will be worth the weight in many cases.
  9. Xterra.
  10. I carried some tiny tiny fish to their new home in the mountains.
  11. "Heels" are the things on the backs of your feet. "Heal" is what an injured thing does to get better. Sorry to nitpick, but it slows down the reading comprehension by a factor of 900 for native English speakers trying to follow the thread. It's interesting about heavy boots. I have tough calloused feet and very rarely get blisters, but if I haven't been in my big boots for a while, they really rip up my feet, including my heels. This happened again this past weekend. Perhaps it's true that the only way to keep feet tough enough to wear them is to do it a lot--just I only want to wear mine when I'm sure I'll need all that support...they heavy! Good discussion, hopefully I can learn something from other people here on this.
  12. I will be in a meeting @ Bridgedale that should end around 5p. Yes they will have Guinness there. If you need to know my real name Pm. See y'alls there.
  13. So Crakers and I are meeting on the floor Friday near the end of the day. If an SLC PC is gonna happen, we'll come by, if not, some of the better places to eat down there are farther afield and we'll jump in the rental car and head out.

Super Wal-Mart to be built in historic Laurelhurst neighborhood
  15. I'm pretty underwhelmed by the options. I think Thinker should help us out since he lives in SLC. Maybe there's something new in the downtown area that we could check out. The beer is not good in SLC, but they have cocktails some places.
  16. Not really, Selkirk. Just a bunch of people fired up about some crap on the intrawebs.
  17. Thanks for reminding me why I hardly ever visit this site anymore.
  18. He did, and he's a regular contributor to the MVN newspaper, but this article in particular was pretty damn funny. The rest are just regular stuff.
  19. I'm not arriving until Thursday, but could conceivably do a Pub club thing one of the three nights.
  20. Methow Valley News Unfortunately the article is truncated from the original in the Methow summer tourist rag, but there is a photo of our own UT exhibiting perfect form playing Cross Country Croquet. He also wrote the article, which at least reading by headlamp in a tent, was pretty damn funny. I need to make a point toget over to Twisp this summer at least once to have our own CC Court Jester pour me a perfect pint at the Twisp River Brewery.
  21. High_on_rock, you make a pretty good point, but let me ask you this? IF the FA team that put up IB had known it was in the wilderness (I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt) and IF they had been willing to respect the rules that apply to wilderness bolting, WOULD they have put up 20-something pitches by hand? If the answer is yes, well, I applaud them, but if the answer is no, the route should not exist. I think you and I have spoken enough offline that you see where I'm coming from with this.
  22. Hawkeye, it's not about 'hearing the drill motor'. If you've ever heard a drill run when it's drilling into rock you know it barely purrs. It's about making permanent intrusions on a wilderness area. Maybe that's the fine points of it, and maybe it doesn't really matter how the bolts get in there, but we've all agreed, via our lawmakers, that we're not doing it that way. You think it's inconvenient? Hell YES it is. It's even illegal in a designated wilderness to use a goddamned WHEELBARROW, but that's the way it is, and these arbitrary rules will go far to keep our wilderness wild, as well they should be.
  23. Are you telling me you have never sped in your car? That is not leagal as well and alot more dangerous. Argument holds no water. Next!
  24. I get you, and you're right, but the route in question has a much larger problem that makes the discussion a non-starter. By the way, being ignorant of the law does not mean not guilty. They looked at the wrong map. I look at several of my maps here in my map library and see the wilderness boundary was moved after the wilderness was origniaaly created.
