    Beer

PBR 12 packs on sale at my local QFC $11.00 for two. Gonna stock up on my summertime standard beer. Hell how can you go wrong with America's blue ribbon choice of 1893?
  2. Well I mention the Mt. Si tavern that is right up in that area. I don't know if they any food though. Another place that I am thinking of is Rogue Brew Pub in Issaquah, damn good beer there and they serve food.
  3. Road is open far enough up to get to the climbing areas. No need to wait get up on it, very little snow up there at the crags.
  4. Breakie: Bagels and cream cheese with butter (lots of it). Instant oatmeal or if I am feeling fancy museli. Pre-made spro just add hot water for americano. If I want to go real light just grounds added to cocoa and drink it all down grounds and all. Throughout the day: Powerbars, GU, and poor man power bars (candy bars). Cheese. GORP. Dinner: Lipton Dinners, cooks fast, tons of salt in them, add couscous to make a solid meal packed with carbos, add canned meat for the first and sometimes the second night. Beer stashed for the way out, gives me something to look forward too. Usually it only takes one at that point to get a good buzz.
  5. Outside magazine it is the most comprehensive alpine journal that I know of.
  6. Shit I'll take the guide book if it still available. Now that I m living in the PNW I am sure I will make it there sometime.
  7. Thanks Chirp and TLG great photos and interesting articles.
  8. The 24 and 25th would be my vote, but mine doesn't count since I am a boarder.
  9. Yo Alpinfox, if you got a car you should check out Rocktown north of Atlanta about 2 hours from Asheville. There is a ton of good sandstone bouldering. HP40 south in Alabama is suppose to be good bouldering too. In North Carolina, Looking Glass has long multi-pitch granite climbing. From easy slab to Steep free aid lines. In Tenn. check out the T-Wall for single pitch stout trad lines. If you were into mountain biking, I'd say leave the climbing shit behind an bring a mountain bike, Asheville is one of the new hotspots for mountain biking, I believe Outward Bound bases there mountain biking program out Asheville.
  10. I don't know if I will be able to borrow a car yet. If I can get wheels, I'll drive a few hours (up to 4 say?) for good climbing. I'd prefer to do roped climbs, but if I can't find partners, I'll do some bouldering. Really!?!??! Surely not in April, but I'm surprised there is any at all in Appaliachia! There is ice down there at times, but not in April, and not every year.
  11. to the dog or the owner? To the dog when it jumps. If the owner's a buddy, feel free to knee him too. Actually you if want to teach a dog not to jump up on you, the best thing is to is when the dog jumps up grab a hold of it, a big bear hug, they freaking hate that. Usually once is enough, they might come back for a second time, but never seen a dog come back for thirds. When you push the dog he thinks your playing the way he wants to. So help keep coming at you if you keep pushing.
  12. I take my gear and put it into a big pile, no need to organize, a pile is more effective. Drink plenty of beer and wait. At the right moment while it is safe and no enemies are nearby, I unzip and proceed with marking.
  13. shut up beotch. Doggies are cool. Ok I guess if the dog is out of control, but never really seen that happen most owners are cool and respectful.

    Old sayings

A bird in the bag is better than six in the bush. Hotter than a fresh-fucked fox in a forrest fire. Slicker than shit. Off like a herd of turtles. Off like prom dress on prom night. Off like the foreskin of a jew. Not the brightest bulb in the pack. Not the sharpest pencil in the box.
  15. Hey doesn't belong in the bouldering photo haters forum? Nice shots.

    Old sayings

Old Maine sayings: From something tasty or fun; Bye Jesus, that was sum wicked good. When they don't know the directions; Can't get there from here. When it doesn't matter; Six or one half.
  17. Hey Icegirl maybe we should do a Index PCGC thingy followed up with a PC for those down in Monroe. We can swing by the prison and pick up Bronco and the other dude that is up in that area and hit one of the local taverns up there. I have always wanted to check out the 1886 place, looks like it could be a fun place.
  18. Tim thanks for the an awesome TR. Talk about bring back some great memeories. Man that places rocks it is one place that I will always miss and will have to take a trip back too. Nice job on High E, that crack you were on I think goes at 9 or 10, can't really remember and to lazy to grab the guide book. Did you look over at the Modern Times roof with the tree growing out of it on the left while you were on the GT ledge on High E? You should do that sometime if you get down there again. 5.8++ is what the guide book sez, damn hard. If you want roof thats got roof. Also Limelight is nice Gunk's casual route. Good to hear you got on Something Interesting. I never seemed to see parties on it, but it such a great route, it is probably because of some of that sort of loose stuff under the roof, but IMO that is what makes it interesting. Was Shockley's taken up so you hopped on that? Way to go pulling Retribution, I got on that once and couldn't pull it, must of not found that crimp you talked about, also at the end of the day with a fading headlamp is probably not the best time to hop on it. Oh yeah Dirty Girdie was my first Gunks climb, thank gawd it was on a TR, I remeber that mantle being hard on TR as well. Ah man now figure out when I can make it sometime.
  19. Dood that is not even funny. It would be really easy to make a bolt hanger look like it is anchored to the rock. On other note for a way cool Canary variation. Climb Old Gray Mare (same start then left of the Canary corner). Heady 5.8 climbing up the vertical arete to a belay below COD. From there follow the the horizontal right trending crack look for a ring pin and cut onto Canary's second pitch. Some great exposure traversing out above the roof (L to R). Also hopped on Saber since I had never been on it since there is always parties there, I wasn't to impressed with the climbing on it, don't really understand why it is so popular. For a better way up that section of the cliff go left of the corner and hop on Directissima way better climbing and good pro. IMO feels easier than the awkwardness of Saber. From the Saber ledge you can finish up Saber or what I did is shoot straight up (not climbed often little graungy but good climbing). COD is next when I get up there again. Anyone know what the bolt on the lip of the Canary is for? Is there a variation that pulls the roof?
  20. Cool, I have always wanted to try canyoneering. Got any pics to post, I'd love to see 'em?
  21. Midway and Saber would be excellent beginner climbs and if your partner does really well, send them up some other that are on the upper wall. Hopefully your new rookie is making enough money to support your climbing habit
  22. Hey Chuck Garfield has melted out, but I am sure there are still a lot of wet rock down on the start, since it all seems to funnel down to the start. I was up there three weeks ago and there was waterfalls everywhere. I'll get up there with ya sometime if you'd like when it dries up. Just think, it would give me a chance to use the carpool lane legally
  23. Heh heh beat you to the Scott. I know there I go being a dick again.
  24. Actually quite different, stealing effects others by increasing the operational cost of a business, which can affect the cost of product to those who are purchasing from that business. I don't see your point Klenke. The affect that I have if I happen to be in the carpool lane is freeing up traffic in the regular lanes (minutely) and adding money to the state revenue if and when I get caught, and totally being a dick in the eyes of people like Scott (but they have control over the way they feel, well maybe not Scott at least it does not seem that way). Well I gotta go ride my bike home. It's been real, it's been fun, and it's been real fun.
  25. Dru your gonna burn in hell, that has to be way worse than passing 30,000 people each day, especially on a climbers board.
