  1. I liked this comment posted after the article:
  2. Rampart Ridge looks like it might have a relatively solid section, though it does sit on top of a huge talus fan. This is roughly across from Eagle Peak.
  3. The quarry Tenino is probably an hour and a half from Seattle, so not your closest, and the rock requires several days of dry weather to be climbable, so it may not be your best bet. It's private property, so if you're interested you should pm me for details.
  4. bstach, that's Woodson in San Diego County.

  6. Too far for your criteria, but the concept deserves a photo
  7. If we had an archive of sage advice for climbers, this post would belong there.
  8. The best place in Washington to find "granite as clean and polished as in yosemite" is in Squamish. The Sierra Nevada has generally better rock, but the Cascades have better ambiance. Plus, pulling hard at 8000' is more fun than doing the same at 13,000 for a flatlander like me.
  9. At least with a scab, you can eat it after you've picked it.
  10. All the video you can find of this thing seems to have the pilot's feet about 3' off the ground with a couple of handlers always present on the sides to stabilize it. What we've seen so far in comparison to other ultralight aircraft is like comparing this to this
  11. In over 50 years I've never been in a situation where having a gun would make anything better or safer, so naturally I find Tvash's post very convincing and agree wholeheartedly. Those rules for staying safe unarmed in Hluhluwe Park? They work pretty well out and about in the urban world too.
  12. Yup, third time around. First time was a trainer in Canada, second was a whacko who stayed hid out in the park after closing and was found dead, naked, & scraped up on the bottom of the tank, and the recent trainer is the third. For the record, Tilli is from Iceland, not Canada; that's just where she got trained.
  13. They're a buncha sore loser hockey alsorans to boot.
  14. What, you don't know about the new Petzl laminated Route 'n Rope Tags? A must have for any serious modern route worker.

    Poor Dick

Its nice that he's always supported his lesbian daughter, with no flinches or apologies. That pretty much exhausts the nice things I have to say about Dick Cheney.
  16. What route is that?

  18. Well, if you don't get out of town, looks like some of the usual suspects will be out here about noon on Saturday...
  19. Aww Bill, maybe next year they'll add a Chossmonaut category, then you could give 'em a run for their money.
  20. Geez Stalkerweather, obsess much?
  21. Down on Popo near Mexico City I saw a pair of crampons a guy made for himself out of rebar. Seems like you can still get pins cheap enough that its not worth making them unless its fun for you and you use the "my time is of no value" equation.
  22. No worries, why would a Beatard go that far to climb, they already have the best crag in the world. Now me on the otherhand, I think that's a sweet looking little crag...
  23. Hah, sorry Goatboy, wasn't paying attention. Yes, FIUTT is a great route, really brilliant stemming. There's a 5.8 just left of it, same start, that has had a bolt at the beginning that came and went at least twice in the two years I lived there. The rationale was that if you need the bolt, use the tree instead, made perfect sense to me. Sounds like the tree is gone: mtn project: fiutt, that's a sadder bit of climber impact than the one bolt battle. This is the same crag you'll find Shriveled Penis at, along with Stoner's Boner (a route climbed by mistake)
  24. Here's your official report: Calvin & Hobbes (10b) and Rubber Boa (11c) are the only fully dry things. Virgins (11c) is really close, looks like only part of the easy handrail at the top is wet. Futility Bill (11d) Shaking Hands with the Governor (10b) & Confucius (11b) are pretty close, maybe Saturday afternoon. The hillside above is still weeping a lot of water, but it sure is pretty in the sunlight right now.
