I've got an older FF goretex/down 2lb bag, I couldn't tell you the model, I just refer to it as the precious. I'd buy one from them again for sure. I've been okay in it down to 20 or so, but I wouldn't really take it winter camping. I did take a down bag on Rainier in the winter years ago, wound up with a nylon sack and fist size lumps of frozen down in each baffle.

I don't know the details of drug based euthanasia in humans, but I know with farm animals if you kill them with drugs, the meat is not edible, hence the popularity of using a gun. NOT that I'm endorsing that method for TS, I just don't know that her organs would be usable after a massive dose of barbituates. I do think the starvation approach is gruesome and pointlessly cruel. It is a relief to know there is nothing of import that needs the attention of congress, so they can spare the time and attention to pass a bill specifically for this individual and look into the problems of multi-million dollar earning steroid junkies.

We went in over Easy Pass, down Fisher Creek to the stream that drains off the Douglas Glacier. Up that valley, on the left side in slowly thickening forest & brush, across an alder flat, up a bear trail on the first headwall just left of the stream, then a diagonal brush ramp left to right gets up the second headwall and onto the glacier below Thunder Peak. It's a great area, long day in. (we hiked up Easy Pass in late afternoon shade, slept in Fisher Creek, and finished the next day, made it a pretty comfortable approach) Douglas Glacier may be pretty broken up this year.

I talked to three guys who did N Face on Triumph a couple years ago at the bivy site on the NE Ridge. They didn't seem that impressed with it, but had a good time. I think they did the original line, not the Burdo variation. Seemed at odds with the oooh-wow impression I'd always held of that side of the peak, maybe they were just jocular but reticent hardmen.

I don't know about you, but as I read I kept hoping that The Descent was going to be a little better than it was.

Klenke: The story behind the story gets wierder still if you read more of the stuff at that caving message board. It appears that Thomas Lera stole the story from Ted, changed things, wrote better, and simply claimed to have written it in 1987. He's since sold the story to a small indie movie production company. The real Ted and B have come forward on that message board. Ted of course admits it was just a story, though based on a real cave exploration, the photos (including the passage opening and the legendary Ted himself in that crawl) and most of the geography are real, from Interstate Cave in Utah which goes under a freeway. The suddenly changing wind, loud noises, moving rock, etc are simply embellishments.
