Damn that's beautiful, thanks! -
Why does hearing the name of that town make me laugh? Patriot Act at work, protecting us from the terrors of BC Bud?

PM John Roper or Klenke, I think they're your best bets for this.

Live show taping, there's another subculture for you, no doubt full of it's own heros and villans and vociferous disagreements.

That shot of your son coming up the rock to the summit is just great

I'd like to see the conversation address the issue at hand: current bolting practice and future direction at Index, rather than spin off into pointless hysterical handwaving about bolting in America and the inferiority of European morality. Via Ferrata in Italy have absolutely nothing to do with Index. Some people assert that no meaningful debate can occur on serious topics in an online forum, that the medium is inherently flawed and unlike an actual flesh-and-blood conversation, people will not grant any dignity or respect to others involved, the topic at hand, or opinions different than their own. Maybe I'm a fool for giving it a shot.

Sorry Pope, I already moved it from Spray to here, pity you've decided to spray rather than discuss.

Yup, a good read, but it's a total joke if the park circus is trying to promote the Valley for golfing, badminton, or surfing. I'd guess that almost no one besides climbers runs afoul of that seven (7!) day limit. I really really wish the Yos Master Plan, created with extensive public input lo those many years ago, would actually be implemented. No private cars would be downright dreamy.

Anne Coulter needs a vacation. I know of a nice place in Enumclaw that would suit her. The only nominee that would please that haggard twit is Eric Rudolph.

He's not a one-for-one replacement for O'Connor, that's for damn sure, and I'm not SDO's biggest fan. Still, replacing moderation with a hard right slant can scarcely be considered a surprise from this administration.

WEDNESDAY 7-20-05 The last week of dry weather has been good to the crag, and the left side is completely dry, with the exception of a seep at the top of Up The Creek and the upper corner on last season's new (as yet unnamed) 5.10. Both the Bolted Flake and Floater are dry. Yesterday evening was delightful, and today looks to be a carbon copy, so c'mon and play. The far left side this morning

SpEd, I think you just have it in for NOLSE. Another reading might see that as establishing where he and his partner were in relation to the missing people and the west ridge in general. Yeah, he could have said "a route" instead of "new route" but I don't see that as very high on the disrespect meter. Pointless thread drift anyway, I'm glad the folks are alright, and hope they tell us a story.

Sheeeit, in the 70's we had chalkbags made out of sleeping bag stuffsacks. It was the only way to chalk your elbows for the wide stuff. Some of the brits would get all wound up about powder puff boys and the whack and dangle merchants, read some old Mountain issues at the Mountaineer's Library for the backstory.

Hear hear Archie! excellent point.

Damn, nice to hear some good news.

Don't be jealous LG, I'm sure you know it's the bit at the end that really counts.

Played a few rounds of hackey sack (hey-- it was the 80's) on top of Castleton Tower with three other folks. When the sack (inevitably) rolled off the edge, it landed on some guy finishing the Kor-Ingalls, who politely returned it. Summit photos with assorted rubber chickens, inflatable dinosaurs, etc. I have a collection of many summit shots featuring a buddy playing air guitar with his ice axe. Mostly though, I remember just how many folks die on the descent rather than the climb, and give myself a good talking too.

Copycat aspirations lead to rescue in Canyonlands

Actually, Mr. Ralston may have suffered (and died from) that Compartment Syndrome mentioned in the suspension trauma thread had someone been able to lift the boulder after his arm had been crushed for a couple days. -
I've made that trip a number of times, and routinely scan for the scene of previous adventures. One paticularly stellar crystal clear day our pilot had the soul of a tour guide, and was sure to point out the various volcanos, Lake Tahoe, and went so far as to do a steep bank directly over the Valley just so you could look out the window down into the big ditch. I think that was my favorite commercial flight ever.

Use your imagination, and make note of the fact that the gender of the horse is not mentioned in the quoted article.
