  1. I heard there was a high probability for preciptiation (of the new route variety) out there on Sunday. Did you notice any sprinkles Mr.E? Ken and I did a lot of non-rock-climbing:
  2. Will likely be icy in spots. Folks should be sure-footed and have ice-axe skills and crevasse-rescue knowledge. Sulphide glacier would be a better choice for newbies.
  3. The nudity has been censored for your protection. keep an eye out for my shirt.
  4. Supposedly the ice in the Ruth Gorge (Alaska) is over 5000' deep. Summit of Mt. Dickey is ~5500' above the ice, making the Ruth Gorge the deepest gorge in the world.
  5. When I lived in the right-wing christian bible-thumpin' conservative suburban hell-hole known as Colorado Springs I was just getting into climbing. I mostly climbed at Garden of the Gods because my partner and I (in 7th-9th grades) could get one of our mothers to drop us off there and come pick us up at the end of the day. Never made it to the South Platte. I hiked up lots of 14ers though. yeehaw.
  6. Glad to hear it. Let me know when you are heading for the granite.
  7. Can someone provide a name and directions for the brew pub in Issaquah? I've been there once and tried to find it one other time with no luck.
  8. Jesus there must be something in the air today... Ben, I was not talking specifically about either of the accidents in question here - I was speaking about accidents in the backcountry in general. My point was that injuries sometimes occur which require evacuation/rescue and that the events leading up to such an injury are sometimes not under the control of the injured party - a fact which Llama was apparently not recognizing. Settle down. I think you are suffering from climbing withdrawl. Breathe along with me here: In (dex)... Out.... In (dex)... Out.... In (dex)... Out.... In (dex)... Out.... Peace.
  9. Whoah! Stand back, the llama is in a spittin' mood today! Sizzy wouldn't have been able to walk out if he had busted his leg instead of bumped his head. Sometimes shit happens and rescues are necessary. If you think skill/knowledge/good judgement will always prevent accidents, I think you are mistaken.

    The need for speed

60mph? You people are crazy. Thank you for allow pedestrian to post on bicycling website.
  11. Getcherself a hammer and a nail. Pick up canister. Shake it. It's probably empty. You hear something shaking around in there? Well, don't worry about it, it's probably empty. I personally like to do my cannister puncturing in a cozy comfortable place like in front of my roaring fireplace with my piles of gasoline soaked rags nearby (I use them to get the fireplace goin'). Put nail against cannister. Wack with hammer. See ya in court!
  12. I was also confused by your use of ' "rescue" ' , but I didn't get the impression you were being sarcastic or condescending. I just didn't know why you were using quotes since it was clear that an actual rescue was in progress. Whatever. Move on. Better things to spray about.
  13. Yes. You are doomed to hike the commonwealth trail. You would need a high-clearance vehicle to get around the concrete blocks. (I should have taken a picture of it.) If you take an arsenal of tools such as a shovel, pick axe, and chain saw, and put in a bit of work you could probably get your car around the blocks though. Ever done any road/trail construction?
  14. Dryad, The road is semi-permanently closed (big concrete blocks). If you have a small 4X4 (jeep, etc) you could probably get around the blocks. If you don't choose that option, go for the Commonwealth Basin trail. It saves some time and is in pretty good shape. Not that hard to find either.
  15. If you are asking about Olympus: there are established rap stations with slings around boulders. If you area asking about Mt. Tom: I don't know. I don't think rappelling is required???

  17. 007, I suppose you could use this as an acclimatudinaltimization table, but I don't think the it's range of altivation will be significant enough to help you out much: Note height adjustment feature...
  18. Let's go climb Green Dragon Tues/Wed.
