  1. just cause one is old enough to serve in the military does not mean that same person is an adult. Old enough to die for country yes....adult maybe....maybe not. As a person who joined right after HS myself, I have a little experience with immature military personnel. (self included in that crowd)
  2. you may need to define their "plight". if it is how many young black men are killed daily, then you may have a point. But I think the bigger issue is discrimination and prejudice against all black people. Having a young innocent black man killed by a white police officer is just another example of this and the real reason for the anger. Are you suggesting that most of the problems of the black culture are due to their own actions?
  3. maybe I miss understood. It sounded like you were saying that the presence of media on a situation brought about the reaction of the ferguson locals.
  4. blaming the media coverage for the protesting of black people in ferguson is a slap to the face of the black people of ferguson. Are you saying that if the media did not cover the story, then they would not have fallen prey to the negative covering of the story and gone out angry? I think that a long history of slavery and then a long history of inequality and racial oppression may have had something (or everything) to do with their anger. When white people have a long history of oppression (by who?) then we will have a reason to scream for the murder of John Williams. Even though we all should make a fuss about anyone who is murdered by police regardless of color.
  5. number don't matter to "them". it is all a conspiracy coverup.
  6. yeah, like these "smart" skiers.
  7. assuming you have a job already lined up, shouldn't you live near your work? Biased here but I like Snohomish county much more. Index, leaven-worth, stevens pass, plenty of hiking around, mtn loop hwy areas and you don't have to drive through seattle to get to the n cascades park. Not driving through seattle is worth whatever redneck neighbor hassles I face.
  8. a detailed account on his blog http://www.joshlew.com/i-have-fallen
  9. build something. time for a new deck? try instructables. plenty of DIY projects to distract.
  10. it is a big world out there. should be plenty to distract you if you just look around.
  11. oh great....now I gotta google that.......wish I hadn't............
  12. I have never been to Mississippi and I hang with my homies, the little feet riders. Good on you for taking care of that cool place.
  13. no example to provide but maybe a better glove instead? wouldn't a glove that was insulated with many small patches on the palm be grand. Have it so that when clutching a tool those patches would all line up and when the hand is open, the patches would spread apart and breathe better. My only good advice is to keep your core warm and you hand should stay pretty warm.
  14. from the move the hut dot org site. To our many friends and supporters: We won the court case against Seattle architect Tom Kundig! Superior Court Judge Culp has ruled that Mr. Kundig and his partners violated the covenants by placing their hut on the ridgeline of Flagg Mountain and must remove it. Not only is this an amazing victory for a small community that banded together to fight a Seattle celebrity architect, but a victory for all who are fighting to preserve the wonder and beauty of unsullied nature. Frank Lloyd Wright had plenty to say on this topic: "No house should ever be on a hill or on anything. It should be of the hill. Belonging to it. Hill and house should live together each the happier for the other." Many thanks to everyone who made this happen.
  15. I prefer to keep in touch with my wife and post on the internet via carrier pigeon.
  16. yes until that face on the amber alert is someone you know. then it is fuckin important. Someone is in trouble and one can't be bothered to give a simple look? Way to be civil and member of society. If you can't give a rats ass about an abducted kid, why should anyone give a care about your anti bolts ranting? Why do you hate kids so much? was your local crag bolted by 7 year olds?
  17. I think the cowboy from Wy has got the story straight and the reactionists are just......reacting as they always do. The sky is falling down! thanks for bringing sensibility to the clown punching shit show.
  18. is that the cascade burger place?
  19. great to have a photo description of the east ledges descent now. so you were happy with your choice in the "Climbing a gully back to the col" photo? that is the best gulley right?
  20. that is awesome. in addition to good ole nationalistic pride for 2 yanks standing on the top two spots of the podium, but we have more local boy pride for us!
  21. teh good thing about J tree is that if it is cold, you can walk to the other side of the rock and climb in the sun. much easier to chase the sun there than at red rocks. never been to tuscon so I can't speak to the ability to chase the sun there. J tree is just a awesome place to be. what about smith? MIght be good there too as you have options of sun exposure as well.
  22. j tree for rock banff for ice pretty much opposite ends of the spectrum. vegas would work if all you wanted to do was sport climb. dem canyons get cold. need sun in january.
  23. copied and pasted from summitpost. hoping the best for the lad. "found out on Josh's facebook account that he had a bad fall near the Banff area and just returned home with many injuries. Here is a first mention of his accident : "Josh is in Calgary, and his mom has spoken to a doctor at the facility. He has a spinal and collarbone fracture and and is undergoing surgery tomorrow to his finger. Josh's mom feels that his climbing partner was very heroic in his endeavor to get Josh safely off the mountain and is grateful for all of his help." Here is his first post since returning home : "I am so thankful to have made it home alive from a serious mountain climbing accident. I broke my collar bone, shattered my pinky, fractured many spots in my back and neck, a nasty puncture in my side, big lacerations in my head, and many more minor injuries. It will be a long time until I get back into climbing. Even being able to eat food by myself sounds good." Seems that Josh is already back online and probably will soon connect to SP. Let's wish him a quick recovery." and "Clavicle surgery went well. Had 8 screws placed in with a plate. Found out that my spine compression was worse than I originally thought. Went from being average height to being short. I don't mind that so much except that it might have some serious consequences on my back/neck in the future. At least the pain isn't so bad so far, pain meds are keeping me dizzy. And again, I feel quite fortunate to make it out of the ordeal alive. I am only down to a single finger on one hand which will make typing a lot harder. Especially with the cast getting in the way with that hand. My brother should aid me on this at times."
  24. been feeling like a punch to the gut since this morning.........the why's don't matter at this time......time to grieve.
