    from an email...

Um. The Government did not technically give AIG $85B. I thought they gave them a short term loan. Now, if AIG defaults on the loan...then of course they gave them that money. However, AIG was going to go into default for paying interest on other loans...but AIG has long term assets they could not withdraw on to pay for the short term loans. AIG had a choice of choosing chapter 11 bankruptcy or a short term loan from the US. I thought Chrysler many years ago had a short term loan from the US Government too.... This short term borrowing is also only for a two year period. IF things work out, the US government will have the money back plus interest. If AIG could fail, like ANY business, then the government would lose the $85B.
  3. interesting photos in your collection. I have never been there. Pretty nice. I have never seen abseil posts before. that was interesting.
  4. I can only remember two. 1)went about his customary duties to promote US goods/trade in South America 2)was against the corn subsidies for US farmers (you know, the ones making good money now for ethanol), but eventually relented and signed the bill becuase he knew there was going to be an overriding veto on the bill
  5. Oh, and be a little early. Some judges are there doing other stuff with other matters. Since they see you there early, it shows your interest and NOT wasting the court's time.
  6. Challenge the ticket. Tell the judge the truth. Officer 3 months ago said I was going 12 over. I disagreed. I told the judge I knew I was going over...but I was going over by 5mph. The judge dropped the ticket from $152 to $75. Stefan
  7. I aint no economist. But it appears these S&L bailout and the current bailout have resulted in poor decisions by management after deregulation in their industries came about. Then the question for the current crises was what was the deregulation, and who voted for it?
  8. I did that. It now has a different color...but still unread posts are alternating between colored and uncolored. Oi.
  9. How do you do that? Mine just pops up as every other thread is colored. I would like unread ones colored. Please help!
  10. in this latest move here is what will happen. your taxation amount will not change. whereby more of your taxes will pay for less of the current federal government programs whereby we will get more debt whereby we will have more interest to pay whereby we will have even less to pay for for future programs eventually your taxes will go to pay for only interest on debt...but that will be in about 40 years.
  11. no flippin way. dang.
  12. I thought McCain was running for President. Not Palin. Why does everybody act like Palin is running for president? I can just see the wool being pulled over the lemmings...er...I mean conservatives. Just like the in the 2004 with the evangelists....

  15. now that looks cool! awesome!
  16. I could run this country.
  17. I have come down from the spires on the route you ask. I cannot remember if we came directly over point 6233 and followed the NW ridgeline directly down to the old townsite. But here is what I remember being a little snippet: 1)lots of blueberry bushes on the way up 2)I remember staying mostly to the north of the direct NW ridgeline from the old townsite. 3)there was one 40 foot couloir/gap when the route encountered minor cliffs and that was also on the north side of the NW ridgeline--and we needed to vegetable belay this part to get down. This was the ONLY difficult part. Once past this part it was partially bushes, and then opened up to meadows. 4) the easiest route up and down is going through the basin and not the ridgeline
  18. Interesting. Then why do I keep hearing the symantic "values" from the conservatives and republicans? If so, then your logic Raindawg might have a problem.

    Earth First

They need to go cross country in the Cascades to see how many trees have fallen. That would be like forcing a smoker to forceably smoke 20 cartons in 10 minutes.
  20. I don't understand. The Netherlands have their own espionage service? WTF?
  21. Let's hope the Democrats do not stoop to the lower level of "moral calling" that the Republicans do. All private matters need to remain private--it is a pure waste of my time in the news to hear about this...so I just skip over it.
  22. dude, what happened to you this past weekend? We thought you and your dad might be freezing up there...? What happened?
  23. Mark, Remember this is climbing. There are no rules. That is the way we all like it. Is it gonna piss you off? Sure, but it sure is hell a lot better than having rules.
