  1. Thanks for sharing. Welcome back. You had said, "I had survived my first major epic". Hope you don't have another one. Any way your partner could share their downclimbing effort?
  2. you guys have done a little tour in washington over the past of dasy. good to see. excellent.
  3. If this dude was an illegal immigrant coming into the US, that is one long walk especially along that Skagit Silver road before the snow melted out. Dang.
  4. Interesting information. I was that accountant. Nobody ever told me of any errors I committed after I left. It would have been nice to be told instead of reading from a 3rd person account. I told Christine I was no expert on tax matters and have somebody handle all tax matters and could not do them. She told me to do the best I could and she would evaluate my work. I took over from the old accountants, and Christine had informed me the old accountants had taken some money--I never checked into it. I left becuase I couldn't do the free work any more. Too much time. It was also at that time Washington State had implemented a new law for travel agencies where they had to put money into escrow before a trip went. This was to protect the customer with the cash when a company would go under bankruptcy. Kind of like what the credit card company did with Frontier Airlines recently. Anyway, I expressed this concern to Christine, and she told me to keep a lid on it. I also got only one trip out of working there for just over 5 years. A good trip...but one trip. Mark is a good guy. I wish him the best of luck with the omen of ownership that looms over that company.
  5. I don't know...but you can always check out the Trinity webcam: http://www.zeitcam.com/showcam.php?cam=trinity&day=20080507

    Bear!

Saw a bear in Federal Way once. He was eventually caught.
  9. I am jealous of your problem. Our helpdesk always fixes the problems we have. That means our networks and our computers by the most part work correctly and functionally all the time. Which means we can usually never have an excuse to slack. Ever. Take this as a blessing.

    Mexico

I enjoyed the local flea market called Tianges on Sundays only in the town of Bucerias. Its like a Wal-Mart on a narrow dirt road.
  11. happened twice to me--both times playing soccer in games when I was a teenager....we just stopped the games for while. pretty darned cool.
  12. dang. I have seen the truck in the driveway of that house on the roads around where I live--you can't help but notice bohemith trucks like that. that is kinda close.

    What would you do?

You thought this meeting was appropriate at the time of organizing it. Why would you ever have a motivation to do something wrong? I think your motivations are comendable. Good for you for trying. You are appearing as a father figure for the son that is not yours. Great for you! As you know with your children, you must teach them some of the pitfalls of life--and as such you must teach the same lessons to the "son" who is looking up to you. IMO, parenthood never ends no matter what age your children or you are at.
  14. Same here. My word is good.
  15. are you a weight freak and willing to gamble a bit? Here is one tip for longer trips when you want to carry white gas or kerosene. Unless you have money for a titanium bottle...here is a suggestion for us hobos out there. Carry the smallest MSR metal bottle, but carry the rest of the fuel in a plastic drinking bottle(s). Never had problems when I did this for a 3 week trip. I don't know what the gas will do to the plastic in 4 weeks. I had to be extra careful to pack the plastic bottle away correctly so it did not puncture.
  16. now that is something I need. loved the ice thing.
  17. How about something even better? How about being a belay slave for either the other person for one day?

    I Was Wrong

Now I have you in quotes. Let's come back to this thread on November 5th and see if you will say you are wrong on your wrong.
  19. Don't forget. The NW trailhead park pass is also good for one full year FROM the month you buy it.
  20. I always buy shorts from Goodwill becuase I glissade come spring or early summer...but the butt eventually wears out, so I buy $1.00 shorts. They seem to always have some nylon shorts in stock. Sometimes I wear the shorts over the expensive goretex pants as a "protective layer" so the goretex doesn't shread. They also have other good outdoor stuff clothes which they don't know is expensive, but you gotta look hard and often.
  21. buy mapping software. Then print your maps on regular paper and give copies to every one in your party--but carry yours in a plastic bag of some type. This way, you can trash the paper instead of having to "take care" of the single map you have of the area. I also have another copy of the map in the backpack in case I accidently lose my first one somewhere on the trip.
  22. steal other folks ideas and pass'em off as yer own! oooo. didn't see that one. oops.
  23. Plan ahead with water to save weight. If need energy from drinks, bring electrolyte pills instead. Do not carry water if you think you are going to pass several streams. Instead, buy one of those collapsible plastic cups and keep it in your pocket. When you come across a stream, pull out the cup and drink from the stream. It beats bending over with a pack and drinking from the stream. here's what one looks like: http://www.shopzilla.com/8N_-_cat_id--12040100__nwylf--__oid--702179962
