genepires Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/seasonal.php?lead=6 had to go there and see the "bad" news. looks like this winter will be warm and dry. suppose that is good (alpine and cragging) and bad (ski pass holder). Quote
genepires Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 except that the warm part of the forecast means it will rain instead of snow at the ski areas. poop! Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 except that the warm part of the forecast means it will rain instead of snow at the ski areas. poop! We had two pretty good back-to-back ski seasons. I could do with some climbing weather this winter. Quote

I could do with some climbing weather this winter. I might even make an appearance this winter. I know you are all dying to see me again! Quote
G-spotter Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 How about a winter with a nice stable snowpack and months of dry warm-ish sunny conditions? Quote

lummox Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 The forest is predicting an early and cold winter. Read the signs. Quote
genepires Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 just by going by the predicted maps, it shows normal temp and below average precip for nearly every month and 3 month timeframe. it is supposed to be colder than normal and drier for the fall. where is the forecast of cold winter you speak of? Quote
G-spotter Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I heard EC is predicting warm and dry for SWBC. I am hoping for a repeat of the glorious winter of 2005 with superhigh snowline and three months of sunny inversion. Alpine nirvana. Skiers can suck it. Quote
John Frieh Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Alpine nirvana. Skiers can suck it. Quote
RuMR Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Alpine nirvana. Skiers can suck it. skiing blows anyway... Quote

Pete_H Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Alpine nirvana. Skiers can suck it. skiing blows anyway... Cause the rock climbing is usually so good here in winter. Quote
lunger Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 yeah, what's up with the ski-hate? these pikers must understand it's THE way to get around in the winter...much more fun than trudging Quote
Alan Trick Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 It's probably because the ice-climbers are in such miserable conditions most of the time, we have to take out our rage on the skiers who just float in pow all winter. Source: I'm an ice climber. Quote
lummox Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 yeah, what's up with the ski-hate? these pikers must understand it's THE way to get around in the winter...much more fun than trudging Slednecks disagree. With volume. Quote
kevino Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Simple solution: be ready to do both. Source: a former big ice climber then skier who is now in grad school and will climb or ski with whatever free i get. Quote

Now we get the inverse. Go with the flow. Quote
counterfeitfake Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Not sure where you're getting the information you're talking about... the pictures in the linked page don't say warm, they say equal chances for above/normal/below temp. They do say below normal precip. The discussion indicates an el nino is likely, but that a strong el nino seems unlikely to develop at this point. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/long_range/fxus05.html Quote
