the problem with any ideological silver bullet, like the Kochsmoker's Free Market mantra, is that, free market or no, if the joint is run by dumbshits, the results will be less than stellar.

"But, but...government can't innovate!" To which I answer: JPL, the Manhattan Project, Apollo, and the AMC Pacer. Let's see, which one was private....

You put morons in charge of anything and they'll fuck it up, regardless of the 'ism' they're in charge of.

The Kochsucker Party self selects for stupidity, so, regardless of what they're put in charge of, if anything, ever, the results will predictably suck.

Ideology is a poor substitute for smarts, experience, in depth knowledge, and judgement. That's why the best that party can come up with is a couple of lazy, know-nothing cunts with spending issues.

An economic model has to account for sources and sinks of wealth and welfare. The "free market" mantra denies resource limits, environmental destruction, and human welfare not conveyed through consumerism. It's just not a workable system whoever runs it.

JPL: Founded/funded by the Guggenheims.

Manhattan Project: Um, ok. War. Govt function. No argument. But don't forget the Brits.

Apollo/NASA: P&W Rocketdyne, Boeing, etc.

AMC Pacer: Well, we don't really want to revisit your high school misadventures here in this forum. No doubt you and your fellow geeks, all jacked up on rainbow sherbet cups from the Wallingford Thriftway one night, actually contemplated driving backward through the KFC drive up window. Until you finally came to your senses...

I certainly can't be blamed for your silly ideology claiming that state control of everything is the only alternative to unfettered capitalism. You'd think that red-baiting the critics of your "free market" religion had become a little too obvious 20 years after the end of the cold war, but again what would you expect from libertarian extremists who happen to be knuckle-dragging John Birchers still in the closet.

All things being equal, I can think of quite a few more legitimate and effective uses for public money. Evidently some can't. That's fine - but I find it endlessly amusing that as a consequence of that I'm the "regressive."

No Jay. What makes you a regressive is your wanting the taxpayer to pay for infrastructure and its maintenance in order to turn it over to the private sector so that someone can make a profit and the taxpayer cannot recover its expenditure. What makes you a regressive is your willful ignorance of natural monopolies that demand considerations other than profit in order to provide necessary and efficient services to the entire public (not only that part that is profitable). What makes you a regressive is your making the unreasonable assumption that privatized entities are always (notwithstanding a handful of exceptions that you concede) more efficient than public management. What makes you a regressive is your neoliberal religion that leads you to think that greed is the only valid motive for economic activity.

So, for example - if you're a progressive, it's better to spend ~$70 million in public money each year to maintain a port facility to serve private companies instead of taxing the profits that a private port would generate to fund public services.

Got it.

OLYMPIA — Two of the state's richest men, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, have lined up against an initiative that would create a state income tax on the wealthiest earners.

Ballmer and Bezos each have contributed $100,000 to the Defeat 1098 campaign, the campaign announced Monday.

The initiative on the Nov. 2 ballot would create a 5 percent tax rate on annual income exceeding $200,000 for individuals and $400,000 for couples, and a 9 percent tax rate on income that tops $500,000 for individuals and $1 million for couples.

Initiative 1098 also would cut state property taxes by 20 percent and newly exempt 118,000 businesses from the state business and occupation (B&O) tax.

No answer jayb, apparently if you're a "progressive", *cough* tax and spend libtard * cough *, then sure, hey, it's only money.

To them the taxpayers have unlimited scratch: they can and should pay for everything under the sun which the government wants: "let the taxpayer pick up the tab it's only money they have lots of it".

Ahh, good ol' Jeff Bozos, proving you don't have to be even mildly intelligent to get incredibly rich. The same dumbass that was spamming constantly how the segway scooter was going to change the course of human history and have "cities redesigned around it." :lmao:

Then there is Steve B, who has done a great job proving that Microsoft without BillG isn't exactly the same as the Microsoft that made lots of us good money.
