Julian
Does a headlamp count as an electronic signaling device? It runs on batteries and emits a "signal" (hell, you can send morse code with it if you want).

dberdinka
While Mount Hood has had it's high profile (always high profile ) rescues in the last couple years I personally can't think of any rescue operations for climbers that have occured in the Cascades of Washington during the winter months. Can anyone else? Actually not entirely true. Alex and co's recent rescue in Tumwater Canyon but that was well below treeline! In contrast a snowmobiler got rescued off Mt Baker just last week. Doug
ok, not to say anyone here (including me) is lazy, but a couple of folks on NWHikers did some background checking and it seems this HB is sponsored by Rep. Marko Liias of Snohomish Co. (find him and more info on this on Facebook). It apparently introduced by a constituent and possible political ally Kevin Stoltz, the Mukilteo City Council VP who happens to own a startup company that (gasp)provides satellite based emergency locator beacons to individuals engaged in activities in the wilderness. He sells and rents them. You know, there were probably no laws broken here but this sure smells fishy.
