kevbone Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Maybe on your book. the best to me is just plain fun, and well protected. no denying it's either of those, but by those standards, how can it beat, say, outerspace? I have climbed Outerspace. I thought the last 400 was cool. but the rest of it was very mediocre. And the walk off is crap. There fore blownout is better. Quote
olyclimber Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 top 3 for me. i obviously need to get out of my chair and go add to the list. Davis/Holland Prusik routes Beckey and S/B Angels Crest Quote

rocky_joe Posted April 28, 2009 Author Posted April 28, 2009 I suppose I should add mine too since I sprayed. Zebra/Zion to the top- Smith Rock (come on Oregon needs some love) woohoo...and OR route, finally. I wanna get that one done asap. all my buddies say its the best thing in the park. Quote
Pete_H Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Grand Wall definitly isn't underrated, but its indeed a stellar route. Quote
kevbone Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Zebra/Zion to the top- Smith Rock Definitely the very best of Smith Rock climbing. IMO. Quote
markd Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Kevin needs to get out more often if he thinks "Blownout" makes the top five of anything in the PNW. Maybe the top 5 at Beacon. agreed, it's not even in my top 5 at beacon. Quote
Off_White Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 The Manly Wham Black Elvis Futility Bill Gloater Hercules Well, top 5 in Tenino, maybe Quote
DPS Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 What I find interesting about this thread is what it says about the folks posting. Some folks obviously like alpine rock, some cragging, others like alpine climbs. Quote
Dannible Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Pretty sure I've posted a list like this before but I'm stoked that it's almost summer so I'll do again. I'll only comment on things I've done: East Face of Gunsight (which has now been on the lists of three of the four people who have done it as far as I know, so more people should get in there). NEB Slesse NW Face of Forbidden NEB of Goode Gunsight Traverse I love summer. I'm over all of this cold and snow stuff (for now). Quote
kevbone Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Best route I have climbed in Squamish.... the ultimate everything. Super fun. Quote
RuMR Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 pipeline....squamish grand...squamish vomit launch...smith north face, monkey...smith jap gardens...index Quote

kevbone Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 There is a "pipeline" at Beacon as well. Very fun. Quote
Alpinfox Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 There is a "pipeline" at Beacon as well. That is SOOOOO interesting! Quote
Blake Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Snow Creek Wall - Hyperspace Good call... the best roped climbing in Leavenworth? Maybe Edge of Space if I were a little braver. Quote
olyclimber Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 post your favorite/top routes and chill it with the spray. and kev, keep on topic, stop dribbling all over the place. Quote

kevbone Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 i am on topic. Thread is about the top 5 routes in the PNW right? I am listing them as I remember them.....one at a time. Quote
ivan Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 my favorite 5: volcano - ptarmigan ridge, rainier crag'n (gotta go w/ my local beacon crag) - the complete stepphenwulf (sure wise i could free more of it ) alpine crag'n - west face of colchuck balanced (ditto) gnarly all-around mountaineering sufferfest - ne butt of j'burg (winter or summer, badass!) super-duper in-your face big mountain in the wilderness mixed mountaineering - nooksack n face bertulis/davis route Quote
spotly Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I see NEB of Goode listed a few times. I might have a chance to do that one this year. What really stands out about it? Quote
ivan Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 I see NEB of Goode listed a few times. I might have a chance to do that one this year. What really stands out about it? there's a bunch of tr's on it (my one of course being the best of the bunch ) it's a very impressive peak viewed from it's pass, just across the raging creek - it's got the full range of vertical jungle'swacking, alpine heather/snow bands, and easy'ish rock - if you descend by rapping down the goode/stormking col it's a very cool package deal, but i don't think it's as cool as j'burg it's main standout in my mind is a giant goddamn downhill walk to get to it! Quote
Stefan Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 neb goode - remote, great rock lincoln - I remember how good the snow conditions were west ridge forbidden - just a lot of fun. easy. just reach out and bam, you got a great hold Ptarmigan - just a stroll in Ireland-like hills, but I felt like I was the only one around for 50 miles in any direction Agnes - standard route, that remoteness feel again Quote
