wayne Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Man I dont know what I brought out with me from the Pickets, but Why else do you think I am home on a nice weekend? I am going back to treating my drinking water from now on! Quote
wayne Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 The WORST part is no drinking while on antibiotics Quote
JayB Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 That sucks. I've pretty much treated every ounce of water that I've consumed in the BC because I figured that I'd gladly bear the weight of the filter/iodine rather than endure some of the gastrointestinal assaults that I'd heard first hand accounts of. One guy told me he lost nearly 1/4 of his bodyweight during an especially bad bout with giardia. Good luck fighting off the pathogens. Quote
skykilo Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Great photo, E! Sorry to hear about your troubles; precisely when did they start? Quote
MisterMo Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Link Yuck. Just curious, how are you certain of where you picked it up? Quote
goatboy Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I've heard of a few people getting sick lately, who regularly don't treat their water, for years consecutively... Good thing this global warming stuff - and its resulting effect on bacteria/giardia/fecal entities is just a myth propagated by the enviro-hippies, huh, George W? Christ. Quote
ivan Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 that sums it up for me goat - i rarely treat water in the upper backcountry and have been doing so for half a decade now w/o getting the hammer - this shit was nasty enough to make me think twice - i wouldn't have been able to work pretty much all week if it had been the school year already should point out that sky has the iron-gut as we drank out of the same streams and he emerged unscathed - great, yet another thing i suck at comparatively i hear ya wayne - this wasn't the longest stretch i hadn't been drunk for and/or been active in for as long as i can remember- i'm hoping i'm not so wrecked now i can't squeeze one last trip in 'fore fawking labor day jay - it coulda also been the mid-portion of stream coming down from asgard - i was so wiped after getting whupped on by colchuck balanced that i couldn't stand to wait a half hour for iodine to clean the water - i drank a liter out of the first part of the stream you hit when heading down hill from the pass of cbr, and then another liter after finally concluding the shity slide alder cross-fuck and getting back on the trail my fav part about campy is the possibility of paralysis as a result of nerve damage caused by the immune system attacking it's own nerves - makes me paranoid about me tingling balls guess i should go rape a nun 'fore i lose the ability? G-spotter Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 given the amount of human feces in the enchantments you may as well just crap in your water bottle as drink from a stream there Quote
Alpinfox Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Come to think of it, Hansel did take "a growler" at the base of CBR. PM me for his number if you wanna bitch him out. I bet he'd be happy to provide you with a stool sample if you wanna test it and find out if he was the cuplrit. For the record, both Hansel and I drank >1L out of the Aasgard stream and didn't get sick. Quote
Off_White Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 should point out that sky has the iron-gut as we drank out of the same streams and he emerged unscathed asymptomatic carrier? Quote

Damn dude - that sounds pretty nasty. Even if it feels like you are on the mend it might be worth looking around for a specialist who has experience with this particular bug, or other especially nasty bacterial infections as a just-in-case. After hearing the medical/hospital gossip for a few years I can tell you that there's a pretty massive difference from one doctor to the next, and it never hurts to have the best in your corner if things take a turn for the worse. Not saying you should run to anyone's office, but it might be worth asking around for names just so you know where to go if there's any wierd side affects or what have you. Get well soon, amigo. billcoe Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Sucks. Sounds like a typical trip to anywhere in SE Asia. Better get yer girlfriend tested. And yer wife too. Who knows where it's been? Quote
DirtyHarry Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Weird man. I've dranken from streams all over the mtns especially in the Enchantments with no problem. Some people get hit pretty hard though if they do. Strange that all of a sudden you caught something, especially since you did a proud job of trying to kill any unsuspecting parasites with Crown Royal. Quote
minx Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 sorry to hear of your troubles...yech!! it seems that everyone is so aware of giardia but it is only responsible for 15-25% of intestinal parasites aquired in the BC. Campy is responsible for a much larger proportion. guess it is a good idea to filter. Quote
ivan Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 sorry to hear of your troubles...yech!! nonsense - no troubles at all - enjoyed every second of it! watched the entire 4th season of the west wing while shivering under 3 blankets and screeching the words to "you are my sunshine" endlessly over n' over in pig latin till my vocal cords gave up and strangled my hippocampus in self-defense anyone can take a week of campy-inspired bathroom campouts - THEY OUGHTA HAVE TO! Choada_Boy Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 You should try "vibrio" sometime. All the shitspray and vomit you could wish for, but with the additional blinding white hot abdominal pain! I was quite the hit in the E.R. after I alternately wrecked their toilet and sink. Who could have thought it was possible to make a hospital emergency room bathroom any MORE germ infested? Quote
rbw1966 Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Rough stuff Eric. I just got back from 3 weeks in Peru, eating and drinking without a care in the world. Zero intestinal problems. Three days after I get back home, go for a long bike ride and drink three glasses of tap water on return. Two days later I am curled up in the fetal position experiencing the love of which you describe. After 4 days of that I started taking cipro and immodium. Sealed things up nicely. Scary part was shitting out liquid which was exactly the same shade of the gatorade I drank just beforehand. Enjoy! Quote
