I guess all the real skiers are out GET'N SOME! instead of sitting at a computer...

OUCH, only 1 day in the past 3 years, (great powder day last year). ZERO so far this year but am going for a few days next week. That stage in my life with very young-ens makes it tough to get out. Oh well, I grew up in Utah and would usually get over 100 days in a year back then. Someday, there will be life after children, so I'm told anyway. Please make some turns for me!

Alcohol will make you feel warmer but in significant enough quantities can increase the risk of hypothermia. It causes blood vessels to dilate. As a result, more warm blood goes from your core to your body's periphery. This makes you feel warmer but over time takes heat away from the core and increases the risk of a fall in your body temperature. But who cares, you'll be invin-azable after a few more shots.

AMEN! -
All I can say, is better you than me. I was suffering through a tastey bbq stuffing my face with prime rib and the like. Glad you got out though. Now it is snowing hard out here.

Very nice. Did you do the approach free solo or w/full belay?

Found: Beacon - Bunch of gear on the SE Corner...
denalidave replied to JosephH's topic in Lost and Found
Only when its raining and blowing, I suppose. He mentioned something about his solstice epic at Beacon last week with a first timer climber and I thought he mentioned leaving lots of gear along the way. -

That was our morning theme song one year on the north side of Denali, every morning right after the oatmeal ritual, all 3 of us would sing URGENT, URGENT, EMERGENCY, SO URGENT! Good ole Quaker Oats to get the constitional going. Ah, good times for sure. Froze our asses off though. Happy New Year!

Outdoor Research Index Rope Bag - New w/ tags $25
denalidave replied to jared_j's topic in The Yard Sale
Still have it? If so, where are you/is it. -
Planned to light off the leftover fireworks from last July but since the wind in nuking here in the gorge, I guess I'll just live vicariously by reading all the new year revelry posts. Happy New Year, be careful out there.

I been wondering how your slog fest went...

It is especially fun when you yell ROPE and throw the rope and it actually goes UP, had that one time in Vegas. You could stand up on a vertical wall just by leaning into the wind. Good times for sure. I don't think I can make it that late as I have a 2pm bbq that I am committed to. Maybe I will see you out there though.

I try to look at every day as orgasm day. Just my way of making the world a better place, at least for a minute or two.

I was out there today running the trail and the wind was nuking up the corner. I usually hang out at the top of Uprising after I run a couple laps on the trail and it was a windy MoFo there today. That said, I am itching to get out and if I can pacify the wife and kids, maybe I will see you out there. Scheduled for a mid day bbq at some a buddies out here in NB though. Have a good time if I don't see you. Happy New Year to all! How early were you thinking JH?

When I was younger, I would not only pack a small flask into the back country, but also a 24 oz can of beer for each day. The weight did not matter much as the beer tasted soooo good at the end of a long day in the Wind Rivers or some other such mountains. I even managed to sneak a 12 pack into one of my buddies packs for an overnighter, yet his pack was still about a third of the weight of mine.

Not true... it will freeze... the temperatures have to be colder. I've got practical experience with some aspects of this. On a ski trip to the Canadian Rockies a few years back I left some Old Stock beers in the van. It was colder than snot, and after a 4 day trip we returned to the van. I was excited about beer waiting for me, but that proved futile when I tried to open one. At least the beer did not explode, like they do when you forget you put one in the freezer for a quick chill.

What is your Summer of 2008 Mountaineering Goal
denalidave replied to IceAxe18's topic in Climber's Board
That was pretty much a snoozer till the grand finale moment. LOL. -
Maybe too little to late on this hangover, but what has worked great for me is taking 2 advil and some alka selzer BEFORE YOU GO TO BED. So long as you don't throw it up, it does wonders the next morning. Also, lots and lots of water, especially BEFORE you go to bed. Day of the hangover, lots of gatoraid and again the advil cant hurt.

Looking back at my own climbing, many of the very best days were when I did not summit/finish or just doing a long easy route. More about the journey and "embracing the rock", as I like to call it. Still, it is always nice to put up a higher number than you have before. I use to really envy getting some newbie started, only to have them climbing 5.11 in short order. Now that I am getting older, I'm just glad to see them getting better. Maybe someday, I can bag another 5.11 or 2.

That sounds ambitious, maybe you could step it up and add Kansas to the tic list? -
First movie my wife and I have seen in the theater in almost 5 years and we both really liked it, 2 thumbs up. We do need to get out more though.

I lost the 20 when I quit drinking beer last July, now I am put'n it back on with the ice cream fix instead. Not sure it was a good trade though.
