  1. well done shapp. how far in did the cave go?
  2. I tore the middle finger A2 or something real similar near it in Feb bouldering (didn't warm up enough ...dumb) I haven't climbed since but got out this weekend to try it out. Things felt fine during 2 days climbing on some variable terrain and it wasn't tender the next day. I have taped it really tight and that seemed to help. My question is, how fast can I get back at it? Should I just let pain be a guide? How have others judged when they are ok to start pulling hard again? It feels sooo good to get back on rock!!!
  3. why'd ya call it the "black hawk helicopter free hanging rap?"

just out of curiosity, how'd you like the splitter (?) cams? never used them before.
  10. answered it myself From Backpackinglight.com: backpackinglight http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/forums/thread_display.html?forum_thread_id=13180 ""That is only true if the thickness of the two pots is the same. Usually, however, Ti pots are thinner so the difference is minimised or reversed. With the extra thin walls of the Tibetan/FireLight pots your water will boil faster than in most aluminium pots." Hummm.....well....probably not. The coefficient of thermal conductivity for titanium is 21.9W/m per degree C.....and aluminum is 237W/meter per degree Centigrade. Soooo....assuming a similar surface area and temperature differential, Fourier's Law shows the aluminum pot would need to be about 11 times thicker to have the same resistance as the titanium pot.....and I suspect that "most aluminum pots" are not 11 times thicker. Could be wrong.....but I doubt it. (assume Roger will check my math! In general, I think it is safe to assume that aluminum will transmit the stove's heat to your water better.
  11. Any idea how much better for a similar sized pot? I guess I could just run a test like Mike...
  12. I suspect we'll be seeing several more of these on Sunday, with the forecast and all...
  13. Arkinsaw, shasta is a good intro to the higher elevations. 14,000 ft is not to underestimated however. People do strange things when their brains are deprived of oxygen. The route up AG is not technical, just know how to self arrest. Sounds like you would be ok on it, but for a TOTAL noob, this is not the best first mountain. take your partner up something that is easier to bail off of first to make sure he/she is ok with skills and altitude.
  14. or, it being from REI, just return it!
  15. very specific! Good luck. If you don't have any luck, lemme know, I'd take it off your hands for the right price...

  20. so is BD getting sold a good thing or bad thing for the sport? time will tell of course, but I am jsut curious what everyone's take is? Seems like reporting to a arge number of $$$ concerned shareholders will cheapen the quality of the product to a degree in order to get the shareholders more $.

    Times Square Teabagger

most media failed to mention that the man who first reported the smoking car was muslim.
  22. I tore an A2 finger pulley in Feb. and haven't free climbed since. I specify "free climbing" because I have started dabbling in aid climbing, which doesn't require any crimping. Obviously this doesn't apply to you quite so much since you can't be quite so active though. It has been good to see this aspect of climbing, and will be a good tool to have in the back pocket... The wife and I have also been exploring local waterways in our sea kayaks, which don't get used nearly as much as they should. She also just ran a marathon last weekend and can't do much hiking around right now, so the kayaks are going to be a nice cross trainer until we are both up and running again. We haven't owned a TV for years, and I am glad I dont have one now, because I'd be glued to it. It is a cop out to be a couch potato when a minor injury happens. There is always something you can do to be active. (not calling your situation a cop out though; you've got a properly F'd body right now) Sorry I cant come up with anything more inspirational. Just find something you CAN do as soon as the doc clears you to!
  23. Tough day Layton!!! That is classic Vegas hospital service though. Seen the same thing twice before...
